ISAAC STEPHEN

Born: January 17, 2008 (yep, that's today!)
Time: 3:38am

Isaac was born 5 weeks early so he is spending some time in the NICU so we would appreciate all the prayers we can get. He is having a hard time figuring out this whole breathing thing so he needs a little help.

I'll be on and off and around here and there. I am supposed to go home tomorrow morning, but we will see how that pans out with Isaac's condition. I may go home on Saturday, but it's pretty certain that Isaac will need to stay through the weekend.

God has truly blessed with another wonderful soul!!

I forgot that part!

He weighed 5 lbs 9 oz and measured 18" so he was pretty good size for being early. He is just barely termed a preemie, as anything prior to 37 weeks is premature.

He's wonderful!!! Congrats!! And prayers, of course, for his health...and yours! How are you feeling?

Congratulations.
I would have never thought that Isaac is 5 weeks premature. Looks so big.

But then again, I am not good at distinguishing babies' age. :)

BTW

My twins were in the NICU for 9 days for being born 6 weeks early and they're fine.

They're a PITA but that's to be expected 'cause they're seven.

What a sweet blessing, Beckie. I'm glad to know that you're both doing well, considering the circumstances. Thank you, Jesus!

Just a quick update:

Isaac had to be intubated this afternoon, but he appears to be doing better. He seems to "fight" the intubation, which means he really is trying to learn how to breathe on his own. Unfortunately, they are thinking he will spend about a week and a half in the NICU...but he is getting the best care possible and we know that the Lord is watching over him.

Knowing Beckie's ordained other half, it's already been done. ;)

Yep, Isaac was baptized a mere 10 minutes after he was born. Even if Matt wasn't in the habit of baptizing at birth we would've done it with Isaac because of his breathing issues.

A ratification in church will be done in a few weeks where we have the baptism service basically, only there's no water in the font.

Well... if you didn't go through the Baptism and Chrismation in the hospital, I suppose you could do the sealing at church.

Either way, congrats on both the birth and Isaac's rebirth!

Gracious heavenly Father, You are the Creator of all things and the Provider of all we have and need to support this body and this life. We give You thanks and praise for the gift of this new life, and we pray for Your healing hand to be upon him as he continues to grow stronger. Bless and keep the doctors and nurses and all who have charge of his care. Guide and comfort his mother and father with Your Holy Spirit. This we all pray in the precious Name of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

He is adorable. It almost reminds me of when Jeremiah was born, though we had no major complications, other than a c-section. May the Lord watch over and bless this child. I do pray that he will grow in strength and wisdom. May God watch over and bless you too. I hope to see more pictures soon.

Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers. Here's the latest!

Isaac is still on the ventilator but he is doing most of the work himself. They have taken him off his antibiotics and they were hoping to wean him off his IV fluids. He's eating every three hours and they will up his food intake by 5 ccs every time. They hope to get him off the vent sometime tomorrow.

We continue to hope and pray for his continued improvement. God has really blessed us and he continues to bless us!!
