View Full Version : A Proposition for a "Questions" Thread

Anglicans are very loath to define exactly what it is we do and believe and think in some formalized way, since any such definition tends to act as exclusionary -- "you must agree with X, meaning that you can't agree with Y" -- and we prefer to be inclusionary. Generally, one's tacit consent to worship by the Prayer Book and pledging to a parish that uses some of the funds to support such-and-such ministry is taken as "agreement with how Anglicans do things."

But this means that a lot of people have questions about why it is that we Anglicans say and do what we say and do. And I suggest that we have a thread -- and therefore opene this one -- for people to ask those sorts of questions.

If BAChristian, as our resident Mod. but not an Anglican, would be willing to start the ball rolling by asking two or three things that have given him to wonder why it is that we say or do that -- and I have little doubt that he has such questions ;) -- that might make others more comfortable about asking them. (I presume that the rule, as in most congregational forums, ought to be that a non-Anglican cannot argue against what it is that we say and do, but can inquire why it is, and what our justification for doing it is, in a non-condemnatory way.) Does that sound reasonable to get lively discussion going in here?

Just an idea, perhaps we should post the catchism from the Book of Common Prayer onto the site (with proper citation, of course)? Or link to it directly? It would give at least a sort of a "FAQ" about the AC (or at least of the ECUSA).

In addition, I have no objections to your post, polycarp1. Excellent idea! :)

That's actually, a very good idea.

If you'd like, I can make the Catechism thread, or better yet, links to your Anglican faith (including the Catechism) a sticky to best serve those seeking the Anglican faith.

Here some other useful links:

Official Provinces of the Anglican Communion

The Episcopal Church USA official website: http://www.episcopalchurch.org/index_flash.htm

The Church of England official website: http://england.anglican.org/

The Anglican Church of Canada official website: http://www.anglican.ca/

The Anglican Church of Australia official website: http://www.anglican.org.au/

The Anglican Communion's official website: http://www.anglicancommunion.org/

In addition, Anglicans Online (website: http://anglicansonline.org/) is also an excellent resource. It includes some basics on the AC, a directory of diocese and parishes, AC resources, news, and a full and complete list of those official AC Provinces, those denominations and churches in Full Communion with the AC, and those churches of Anglican history and heritage but are not members of the AC.

Those churches of Anglican heritage and history but not of the Anglican Communion

The Reformed Episcopal Church (non-AC) official website: http://rechurch.org/home2.htm

The Anglican Province of America (non-AC) official website: http://anglicanprovince.org/apahomepage.html

**note, the REC and the APA above are in the process of merging together to form a new denomination consisting of both these churches.**

The Anglican Mission in America (non-AC): http://www.anglicanmissioninamerica.org/

The Charismatic Episcopal Church (non-AC): http://www.iccec.org/index1.html

Not complete, but I think good for now :)
