View Full Version : What does "R" stand for in the Passion of Christ?

R stands for RESTRICTED, but in this movie "R" stands for:

RELEVANT, for
REALISTIC, for it
REALLY happened for a
REASON because we were
REBELLIOUS we needed a
REDEEMER, we needed to be
RECONCILED, we needed to be
RECOVERED, we needed to be
REGENERATED. Jesus needed to be
REJECTED so that we could have a
RELATIONSHIP not just a
RELIGION. The "R" is to
REMIND us to
REMEMBER what Jesus did to
REMOVE our sin to
RENDER Satan powerless, to
RESCUE us from eternity in hell. The "R" rating is to show that Jesus was
RESPONSIBLE for giving you
REST. As a
RESULT of his death Jesus
RETIRED your debt. The "R" rating means that some will be
REPULSED, some will
REFUSE to believe, some will be
RELUCTANT, some will think you are
RIDICULOUS in believing that a death was
REQUIRED. The "R" rating means that the
RESULT of sin has been
REVERSED and now through faith in Christ your
REWARD is eternity and you are now
RIGHTEOUS before God because you have
RECEIVED him as the
RULER of your soul. What a revolutionary and
RADICAL solution to
REDEEM mankind.

FYI, Orthodox Christians focus more on and glorify the Resurrection, whereas Roman Catholics focus on the Crucifixion. Both are equally important, though.

Exactly ...

Good list btw. :p A lot of theatres have been ignoring the R label and letting people in anyways. This movie should have remained unrated.

I think it should be rated NC-17 so no one would see it.

I haven't seen it. I don't really plan to either; not my cup of tea.

R stands for the Resurrection of Christ which wasn't depicted very well.

We will have to wait until we are in heaven to really celebrate the Resurrection of Christ our God.

The Movie was made well, But it shouldn't have been made. I regret seeing it. In Lent no less. After more thought into what the movie was you realize that it's Mel Gibson in essence is re-crucifying Christ. Christ died on the Cross once and we experiance His passion through the Eucharist. We should not want to experience that in a movie, nor can we.

My Bishop condemned it as well. I believe it has the same condemnation as The Last temptation of Christ now.

I am a little ambivalent about The Passion. I decided in the end not to watch it because once watched, it couldn't be unwatched. That is to say, I couldn't return back to the place where I was before and the images would always be with me. Would I always see the actor's face when I pray or read the Gospel? Not a risk I was willing to take. But this is a personalal reason and not something I would put on anyone else.

That is indeed a very important issue. Can't be stressed enough, if you had a picture of someone else in your wallet and looked at it as it is your husband/wife, would your husband/wife be HAPPY you are looking at someone else's pic?

I just watch these movies, "Jesus of Nazareth" "The Passion Of Christ" but I try not to associate the actors with Him ... Carefully... Takes prayer too...

I can't just wait to see Him in His Glory...

I never ended up seeing it. I may get it out on DVD, but I am not keen on the brutality.
