Traditionally, conservatism has entailed limited government, fiscal restraint, and avoidance of foreign entanglements. It should be obvious that President Bush doesn’t fulfill any of these attributes.

Expanding the size and scope of government, ballooning the national debt, and waging wars of imperialist aggression are not what a conservative statesman would do. This isn’t conservatism, this is fascism. There’s a real difference.

Who will step up as the rightful heir to the Reagan legacy? Who will restore America's confidence in the Republican Party? When will it be morning in America once again?

Ronald Reagan did not always have the best policies but he was the last patriot President of the USA. His embracing of Gorbachev's glastnost was brilliant & may indirectly be benefitting Putin (another patriot).

I was watching the GOP deabates and it annoyed the heck out of me how it basically turned into a "I'm more like Regan than you are" debate. As an idependant I was turned off. I don't want Regan, I want my president. The Republican party has idealized his presidency too much and the candidates are simply feeding off that. You will see that, after the primaries, the Republican candidate will be be running as far as possible from any comparison to Regan. To Democrats, Regan is one of the worst things you can be compared to.

What about the Reagan Democrats, the many Democratic voters and Congressional Democrats who supported Reagan and his policies?

that was over 20 years ago. That's along time. I mean, I suppose we can also hope that Huckabee's pro-life stance will be the factor that attracts those 3 pro-life democrats out there.

According to his chief of staff Don Regan, Reagan was too placating of Nancy Reagan's penchant for it but that Ronald Reagan did not himself consult astrologers nor did they determione his policy making decisions. Nancy's predilection for astrologers was based on her personal superstition & an overprotectiveness to her husband (undoubtedly brought on by the assassination attempt on his life). Ronald Reagan cared for the USA & truly wanted world peace which was proven by his negotiations with Gorbachev.
