Can you get a good Cornish pasty in NZ?

Nope. I don't think they even know what one is here really, I did find one that was quite good once, just from the local sueprmarket, but they don't make 'em like back home, no-way.

Where's that munchkin~I wanna hear more about English cuisine :DEnglish food is much maligned and under-rated, Jimminy.

You've not lived til you're had an English breakfast, and Cornish vanilla ice-cream, and scones with fresh cream and homemade strawberry jam, and fish and chips wrapped up in a piece of newspaper as you walk along the pier... we have yummy food. It just isn't particularly... classy :P We sort of plumb the depths of cuisine, really. But! It could be worse. In Scotland they have a habit of deep frying everything. *Everything*.

Deep fried battered chocolate bar, anyone? :)

^_^ I don't even want to know...Can't resist telling you, anyway...

Black pudding at wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_pudding)Black pudding or (less often) blood pudding is a British English term for sausage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sausage) made by cooking blood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_as_food) with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal when cooled. There's also white pudding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_pudding) which is less scary, but am still never trying it! White pudding or oatmeal pudding is a meat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meat) dish popular in Scotland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland), Ireland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ireland), Northumberland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northumberland), Iceland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iceland) (Lifrarpylsa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifrarpylsa)), Nova Scotia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova_Scotia), and Newfoundland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfoundland_and_Labrador). It is also quite popular in Devon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devon) and Cornwall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornwall), where it is known as Hog's pudding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hog%27s_pudding). It is very similar to black pudding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_pudding), but does not include blood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood). Consequently, it consists of pork (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork) meat and fat, suet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suet), bread (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread), and oatmeal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oatmeal) formed into the shape of a large sausage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sausage). Earlier versions (pre-1990 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990)) often had brain matter (sheep) added as a binding agent.
In Scotland, white pudding can also be known as Mealy Pudding. It consists of suet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suet), oatmeal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oatmeal), onions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onions) and spices (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spices). Some versions of Scottish white pudding are suitable for vegans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegan), in that they contain no animal fat, vegetable fat being used instead.
The pudding may be cooked whole, or cut into slices and fried. It is an important feature of the traditional Irish breakfast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_breakfast). White pudding (as well as its black and red (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_pudding) relatives) is also served battered at chip shops (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chip_shop) in Scotland as an alternative to fish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish) (see fish and chips (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish_and_chips)). When served accompanied by chips it is known as a White Pudding Supper.

No fried bread in the US and no baked beans. Apart from those things and the black pudding, it's very similar. I've noticed that black pudding is more common the further north you go. It's one of the few things I don't find appealing about the north and Scotland.

Having been to England and having sampled your local fare I can say that it's not actually underrated. It's rated as it should be. There's a reason that the second thinnest book in the world is "Great Chefs of England". "Great Chefs of Ireland" is the first. ^_^

Yep and lamb is my now my preference over beef. :yum:
Besides, I want more flokatis to keep my feet warm. ^_^

Seriously, though, the food in England is fine and apart from a few things that aren't easily found in the grocery stores, it's not that much different. Doritos, Pepsi & Coke and many other foods we take for granted here can be found. Oh and the grocery stores deliver. :)

What I enjoy is all the new and more varied Chinese and Indian dishes that I've never heard of before and within our neighborhood there are enough different takeaways that my palate will never get bored. If I eat as many prawn crackers as I want to, I'll have to run there and back to balance out the caloric intake, though. Man, are those good!

Not much.^_^ Here in NZ they make the most wonderful salads, they come up with the most yummy combinations, and when I visited back home a few years ago I really wanted to eat salads but everytime I ordered them they were yuck.

Stodge food is the best over there. So I just lived on Cornish Pasties and F&C's instead because that is good.:D

In their defense though, the food has definitely improved, it used to be shocking, but it has gotten better than I remember (except the salads;)). And they serve up some of the best Indian food ever, Brits go nuts for curry, I think they've named it the national dish now.

An American classic.. S'mores got their name from the phrase; "Give me Some more!" A favorite for around the camp fire.

SERVES 1

1 large marshmallow
2 graham crackers
3 chocolate squares

Toast one marshmallow until a light golden color.
Top with 2 squares of chocolate.
Sandwich between one graham cracker, broken in half (that would be 4 separate grahams, 2 on either side of the s'more).
To toast while camping, push the marshmallow on a long stick and turn constantly over an open fire.
To toast at home, pop in a preheated oven on a cookie sheet and watch closely! (usually about 2 minutes).

very sad, very sad indeed - hate to say this, but sometimes posters in CC remind me of those species that eat their young - all too often we're not any more tolerant than those we complain about being intolerant - except we're intolerant of those who are members of our subforum :sigh: :( :sigh:

The sugar in candy usually upsets my system. It is usually in the form of High Fructose corn syrup which gives me flu-like symptoms. So yes I eat sugarfree candy and cookies.

AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES

Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables, by getting someone else to hold them while you chop.

Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat, by using the sink.

For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer.

A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives; then you'll be afraid to cough.

You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Remember: Everyone seems normal, until you get to know them.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

My sister's female Yorkie is far more butch than our Shih-Tzu. He's a furry lump of squishy fluff looking for someone to cuddle with. :P

Did you ever receive your sugar free Reese's Pieces? If so, were they good?

No, sadly he will stay here with my parents, at least for now. I didn't have 6 months warning of the move (someone is in a hurry) so the mandatory quarantine time would have put his departure 2 months beyond ours or he'd have to stay in puppy prison in the UK until the time required is fulfilled. He's rather old and truly a big baby, so I don't know how the flight would affect him, but I do know time in isolation would be devastating. If we move back up to Herts in the near future we'll send for him, but for now, we're in a flat and he's used to having his own yard with pet doors to come and go at will. Not that he's spoiled or anything. ;)

Truly awful! Was the seller in UK or the US? I've also had a bad experience on eBay, so am not as keen on it as I used to be.

Perhaps stevia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia) will become useful in produced foods in the near future. It's supposed to be sweeter than sugar and produce no ill effects like those of of sugar substitutes.

Not much to tell, lol, boring fella. Small town close to a city, work in sales, don't get out enough.

A Christian for 5 years, but I can't seem to settle on a church. I know I'm odd but I love visiting different churches, different denominations, and joining their worship. So I don't get to know the people in any one. That's not so good, I think. :sigh:

I don't know, you know. Like, I can't help but think that as long as we're having regular fellowship with Christians, it doesn't necessarily have to be the same ones every week. Have you noticed different churches have different styles of worship? Have only ever attended Charismatic churches, so the worship is fairly similar.

Will miss him awful. :( My goal is to get us quickly moved down to the harbor where we can have a garden and a view. We'll all like that. ;)

Yes, the family home is near the Essex border, not too far from Cambridge. Lovely place with plenty of space to roam. I love it there and can't wait to move back, but first the place has to be remodeled. Guess who gets to make sure that happens.:swoon:

What I ordered wasn't what seller described. PayPal managed to recover half my money, but I wasn't allowed to leave negative feedback. The seller was a thief and of course it was not a cheap item. Oh, well.

I'll bet your seller was wrong in addressing your package. It's a tricky business to send packages to the UK. I'm still waiting to see if the wedding invites I sent have all arrived.

That's how it is when both parites mutually settle a dispute, I guess. I filed a grievance against him and by his reaction, his guilt was evident to everyone, so they dealt with him, I'm certain.

Well, I could put in a package with various sugar free chocolates, if you like. Hershey's corporate site gives no indication of their offering Reese's Pieces without sugar, so I'm unsure where this person acquired what she was offering.

Have a look. Dove site (http://www.dovechocolate.com/products_chocolate_p3.html)

Their sugar frees are dark choc., raspberry and mint truffle like bites. :yum:

Of course, Godiva (http://www.godiva.com/catalog/collections.aspx?id=77) also have sugar free offerings and they ship to the UK.

Russell Stover (http://www.russellstover.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=124&path=1%2C2%2C4%2C24%2C124) candies are good as well.

Take your pick and let me know. I can pick most of these items up at the grocery store and it seems things dispatched from this side take only about four days to arrive.

Honestly, Jimminy, am pretty much ok with tasting it for the millionth :P I bought this sugar-free stuff recently and it was ok, but gave me tummy-ache :( Still reckon, though, that in America you don't get a great selection. May start smuggling care packages of chocolate over to y'all and will not eat all of it while in transit :DDo you not like it?? You're right, though... it seems to be a predominantly female thing. Actually, a couple of years ago, a chocolate called Yorkie (big, chunky bar... and very delicious) started a campaign to make itself more manly. It aligned itself with truckers and changed the wrapping n stuff, n while it was mostly ironic, afaik, it actually worked! :D Then loads of feminists got bees in their bonnets (heh. Feminists with bonnets) and I think it was pulled.

 good grief

Anywhere doctrine is important, you will have disagreement & heat.

& I also take into account that trolls & sox come in & mess with topics along the way too.

If an area is supposed to be a safe haven for people of THAT belief, and people have a real hard time fitting in and don't agree on very much with them, chances are they might fit better in a different forum where they do find majority of full agreement (to a greater extent)....

I realize that nobody is going to agree 100% on everything nor do they have to on minor issues or doctrines.
People are all different and we all have different personalities & traits w/ different characters for different reasons; you have yours as well that others have to deal with too.

Most often, we criticize thinking that we're the one's that are OK & everyone else is the grape nut - & it's not the case. All of us create differences and conflict by carrying our own beliefs that others have to agree or disagree with which affects them too.

Some things I do argue about and for when I believe they're important.

But your point is very well taken and I'm going to be focusing on that this week.

Alot depends on topics tho possibly?? I mean, we just had 1 that looked like it was attacking conservatives & could still be taken that way.
There are ways people can start threads & think of content -

I think we need more fellowship posts in this forum... maybe people will post more of those?

BLESSED Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast, the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

We had the sleet and snow yesterday here in west Texas and it never got above 50 today with sharp, cold wind. I'm glad the ice isn't blowing in the door every time I open up like it was last night. It's still cold, though.:bbrr:

GM, my fiance had his blokes night out tonight. I think they were home by 2200. So much for a last chance at celebrating his freedom. :D He flies in Sunday night and I'm beside myself, but there is so much to do!!!

:bbrr: is right! I just spent 2 weeks in the North East and got 2 feet of snow dumped on me as soon as I arrived...I thought I was finished with snow when I came home to Houston...LOL

I have a nice warm fire and an electric blankie... a cup of hot chocolate and I'm all set.:hrelax:

Many blessings to you and your fiance'!

That's what I did last night, but with tea instead of cocoa. I couldn't get my daughter to bring down any more wood tonight. It was dark when we got home and she refused. ^_^

Many blessings to you and your fiance'! Thank you. He seems to be really excited and anxious about getting on with the whole thing, but I'm beginning to have tiny bouts of hyperventilation. Hopefully, when he arrives, I'll calm down. :sorry:

12-27-08, just in time for a proper English wedding breakfast, which happens after noon.
Confused? Me, too, but it's the civilized way, according to my bloke.

We only seem to speak the same language as the Brits. Today, we went back and forth about the service bulletins, which he couldn't grasp until I used the phrase, "order of service program". By that time, we were both frustrated thinking the other was being a smart aleck. ^_^

I couldn't agree more. I mean, when you look around at people's decorations, it seems as though there are about 25 Santa Clauses for every one Nativity scene.

Oh, well. That's the world for you. :(

I am a 2d shift person, both my parents were 2d shift~~I've just not been on it since the late 90s...but yeah I'd rather be on it.

Yeah...it's kinda hard and I imagine with a family it would be even harder.

I always worked kookie shifts when I was younger...then after putting in 100 hour weeks when I managed a restaurant...I craved banker's hours...M-F 9-5.

At some point...I just wanted a life...:)

So I quit my job...switched careers and got a puppy.
