 hi ya'll!
Here is something I read that I enjoyed:

"Our greatest need is to enjoy God. Everything comes out of our enjoying God. Asceticism, introspection, worrying about being cast into outer darkness and anxiety about our condition - these accomplish nothing. Let us enjoy God. Let us encourage one another to enjoy God each day. Whatever our situation or environment may be, even if it is contrary to the desires of our soul-life, we need to enjoy God. Every situation is arranged by the Lord and is the best situation for us to enjoy God. We are destined to enjoy God for eternity; therefore, we should begin by enjoying Him right now." (from The Ministry Magazine)

Ya know...
Thanks for posting that. The one thing I wish I did more was just to simply enjoy my faith...
enjoy concepts of mercy and forgiveness, enjoy being loved by God... and dream a little...
dream about being more like Christ... what the parousia will look like... {etc}

Anyways, thank you. I mean, seriously, does everything have to landslide into a debate or argument?

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

For let him who wants to enjoy life and see good days [good--whether apparent or not] keep his tongue free from evil and his lips from guile (treachery, deceit).

hey there!

Want to share something that God just did. Last month I had the flu and unfortunately, I had to take a week off without pay because of TOWP and with Gas prices.ANYWAY...it's been a bit short all month and though tomorrow is payday and I have enough for lunch BUT I was worried about spending the money. My boss took me to lunch just because and he actually got the bill.

It was a good talk and I really enjoy having him as my boss coupled with the him taking care of the bill...well how many times does God take care of us and we don;t know.

my grandson, Lukas (age 7) was the ring bearer in my son's best friend's wedding yesterday

Before the service the pastor told both Lukas and the little flower girl that he knew that it would be hard for them to stand still in line throughout the service. His solution, that it was ok if they stood next to the person they were most comfortable with. So the flower girl stood next to her mom (one of the bridesmaids). Luke kept inching forward and ended up standing next to the groom (the only person he knew). At one point he had his elbow on the kneeler with his head resting on his hand and he was just staring up at Tim (the groom). It was really cute (and that I'm aware of no one complained about it being inappropriate).

I know Christianity steers us away from judging by appearance but I have to say, most churches are visually drab.

If I designed a church it would be painted with attractive colors outside and in! I'd have jade green, maybe some yellow, and beautiful shades of red.

You can never appreciate stained glass windows from the outside; they just look dark. So why not put mosaics on the outer walls made of lots of bits of coloured glass?

I would have big noticeboards covered with photos of all the activities that go on in the church. Represent visually the life and vitality that Jesus can bring to a faith community, instead of making churches seem like dull, closed and closing urban buildings.

Hi again,

I'm studying the strengths and weaknesses of getting churches to provide community services. Over here in the UK, the Government wants faith groups to do more of this.

It's challenging because as well as the many strengths, you are forced to see the weaknesses of the church as significant.

How're things with you?

It's been a strange week for me. I got the chance to witness to some JWs and an old work colleague in very odd circumstances.

Then when I was working in my computer room at night, I got this very strong scent of flowers for about a minute and a half. (Usually the room smells of sweaty socks.) I thought I had it a couple of times before but never so strong.

I've heard some Christians attach a spiritual significance to that phenomenon. Right now on the Charismatic Catholic forum there's a thread about it, although I wouldn't agree with some of their interpretations. Weird stuff.

How's your week been?

GreenMunchkin
9th August 2008, 03:29 PM
Joe, can I ask you something? I was just trying to find a Youtube video for Choc about Obama, and came across some bod called "Crucifiction" who is clearly a militant atheist. Fine. But his homepage has a drawing of a rotting corpse on a cross, and the tag actually says: "Jesus has been found! Rotting Christ: nailed to the cross."

What is that? That's not atheism. Why is there so much of that now? Has messed with my head that someone could be so hateful and dark. And that so many are cheering him on and aggreeing with it all.

ETA: Have always been told that the scent of flowers signifies the Lord's presence. Not sure if it's specifically Catholic, though.

JoeWill
9th August 2008, 03:37 PM
I suppose it's the road the Devil takes people down.

EDIT: Jesus still nailed to the cross is what the Devil would like to believe. No chance. Jesus is risen and the Devil defeated.

When I was at a prayer meeting once, a trusted friend had a word from the Lord in which Jesus said something like: Why are you surprised that the world is becoming like it is? Didn't I say that all this was going to happen?

Do you want to take a look at my short video called Paint the Park? Taking a little bit of the love of Jesus to a disadvataged area. You've got to watch it with the sound switched on.

Have to go for a wee while, but will have a look when am back. Thank you

EDIT: Aww! That was so nice  Heh, was one of the football teams called the "Fat Pasties"? :D Did I hear that right? What a lovely, lovely way to spend a day. That's the thing, Joe. You look at that - at the joy everyone had in doing something loving for others, and it's so pure, and clean, and gentle and peaceful and kind; then compare it to the awfulness of that homepage, with its hatred and cruelty and loudness, and it just shows how glorious God is. He rescues us from that darkness, and takes us to that park with its fresh air and sunshine, where we paint see-saws and play football and eat fun-size chocolate bars. He's amazing, really :D

I served with the high school girls from our church at a high school conference this weekend. It was wonderful! We learned about the progress of the church in seven stages in Rev. 2 and 3.
One girl who we brought to the conference is new to this country and knew nothing about the Lord at all and at the conference she prayed and learned much about the Lord and called upon His name.

Hey, a girl's gotta get some stress relief around CF....
Believe it or not tho, the rep stuff isn't as simple as people would think. Depending on where you want to go w/ it, it's actually alot of work, you can ask anyone with high rep scores from that area.

But anyhooooooooooo --
I think there's some truth to that tho. Basically, the Bible doesn't change doctrines; we have the same verses we had 2-5 years ago in forum debate. How much can you reheat the same issues?

All that really changes are the guidelines in who's allowed to post where and challenge whom & what the definition of a Christian is over that forum.
Somebody can correct me on that, but it seems that way to me anyways.

The Bible's inexhaustible, there's always new stuff to talk about. Do you think the inexhaustibility of the Bible is an evidence of divine inspiration? You could study the Gospel of John for years and still find new things in it.

The Bible is as shallow or deep as needed~~but people change, and that's when the discussions can change. It's just that new people come in and the old topics get resurrected, and the cycle seems to just spin in circles. It wasn't so long ago I was the new guy.

i drank two glasses of pearl tea tonight.
tea has caffeine.
i should not drink it at night.
we had a bunch of the high school girls from our church over at my house for dinner tonight and then all went to the prayer meeting together.
we had lebonese hamburgers - a sister from another state is visiting and staying with us and she is from lebanon and made them and they were really good, and we also had chicken curry and salad and rice and pearl milk tea and cookies.
i think it was good to bring the high school girls to the prayer meeting.
most of them have never gone to the prayer meeting so this was a new experience for them.

Hello GM , Bath City FC will be playing AFC Wimbledon today.Hi

Who won? I'd imagine is was Wimbledon... they used to be Premiership, didn't they? Or are they still?

Am annoyed this evening. Been discussing Obama with an American fella - he hates Christians, so that's probably a part of it - and he point blank refuses to acknowledge Obama's position on partial birth abortion. It's frustrating when people are dishonest in debates cos it's like, what are they trying to achieve? What's the purpose of talking if there's gonna be a lot of double-speak and denial of fact?

Sigh.

Don't sweat it, it's more debilitating to have to read our diatribe in the fundy/conservative areas for them to be intimidating (as we know from continual posts that keep being injected to rebutt things)

I remember being in other forums reading alot of those liberalistic & false doctrinal posts & just feeling ill & frustrated - it has to be irritating to read all this stuff from us lol
That makes me smile - I won't go to their havens & read all the crap & get myself worked up over it, it isn't worth it becuz you won't ever change their minds. (Only God can if it will ever happen at all).

be proud :) I am sure that you help a great many people - how many others can say they do that?

I didn't know we did school reunions in this country, I thought it was an American thing... I doubt I'd go to mine anyway - I didn't even go to the leavers "prom" type thing that they had (another American import) I think I was the only one out of about 100 or so that didn't go :D I am not what you might call the sociable type... ;)

Aww, thank you so much, everyone  So nice to read this, thank you so much

if you didn't want to go, why did you?Because I really felt God telling me to go. Am not sociable either - at all - and felt physically sick with nerves before going, but it really felt like He was telling me to go. I thought it may be because He wants me to come out of my shell a little but, actually, I don't think it was about me, at all. There was all the typical small talk (how do people do that? Small talk is baffling) and I felt totally out of place so I just sort of kept to myself a little - and, actually, there really did seem to be some discomfort when I told them what I do - but about half an later, a woman called Lauren - we were never close at school, but we were on the same sports teams, so we knew each other well - came up to me and told me she's really been struggling with her faith recently!!

I sound all calm in the telling, but am utterly amazed. So we just spent 3 hours talking about Jesus, and what's causing her to stumble so much! We didn't really reach any conclusions, that is to say, it's not like she's all sorted out and happy/secure/strong in faith again, but she seemed so much more at ease at the end of the evening. I think, more than anything, it showed her that God hasn't abandoned her, cos she didn't wanna go, either.

So He told me to go because He knew Lauren would be there. He's just amazing, isn't He. I know that's said so much it's almost trite, but He really is. Amazing. Thank you so much for the prayers and good thoughts :)

God showed Himself tonight, so He's got all of this in hand, yes?

Hi everyone. Guess I'll just post my thoughts on things I learn at college. Interesting how Islam progressed through history compared to Christendom. They were in the "Dark Ages" while the Muslims were achieving an intellectual "Golden Age". The past is so smeared..

Also in greek history class I'm learning about homosexuality in Greek. Turns out what people are pushing for today wasn't accepted back then either. Most of it was pederasty, a ritual and symbol of power.. The question I have though is...why did they paint this on cups.

Am sorry :( Why so tough?I have been doing tech support over the phone for exactly six years! Most people don't last more than six months...a year at the most. After that you get into the burnout zone very easily.

Basically a day full of pure mental stress with no physical outlet.

I heard this statistic last year. The top three most stressful professions are dentist, air traffic controller...and tech support.

This is just a random link Google spit out:
http://claireb.wordpress.com/2007/10/16/top-ten-stressful-professions-and-other-top-workplace-stressors/
It lists IT as the top.
If you look at the list of Stresses and Irritations...they all apply to me. In spades!!

Sometimes I laugh at how ridiculous my job is. Other times I feel like crying.

One silver lining is that I am shifting over to a weekend schedule in January. That will mean I work by myself (as opposed to with 10 irritating people...yipee!!) Saturday and Sunday with only working Monday and Wednesday during the week.
That will actually help a whole lot...

haha I like you luddites. It's the people that "think" they know what they're doing that are frustrating!! Example (I love writing these):

Caller: Hey, I can't print.
Me: Ok. Go ahead and restart your PC. That'll probably clear it up.
Caller: I already did that three times!
Me: Humor me...go ahead and try it.
Caller: I don't see why I have to...oh, all right.
*restarts PC*
*long pause*
Me: How'z it going?
Caller: Oh it's printing now. Bye.

Also some of the people I work with know very little about computers. I have to listen to them "work" and it is truly painful. Imagine a mechanic who can't turn a wrench. I have no problem with folks that don't have much computer knowledge. But I do ask that they don't try working in IT!!
^_^
What is really embarrassing is having a coworker ask me a question and I know it could be answered by a two-second Google search.

Me: I know. I just need to know which screen you're on so I know what to do next.
Caller: Um...Microsoft?
Me: All right. What message do you get when you put in your password?
Caller: *reads message*
Me: Oh. You're actually on the mainframe. Let me reset your password.
*resets password*
Me: Ok, now put in that temp password and hit enter.
Caller: Hit enter?
Me: Yes.
Caller: It says put in your new password. *pause* Should I do that?
Me: Oh...yeah.
Caller: Now it says put it in again. *pause* What do I do?
Me: *facepalm* Put it in again.
Caller: Put it in now??
Me: Please...
Caller: Oh. I'm in now! Thank you!!

That ^^ is if everything goes well!!

"God bless their little hearts."

I was tech support WHILE IN engineering school. :D I actually enjoyed it, though, but, yeah, when people are already irritated because they have to call you to begin with, the greatest challenge can be allowing them to vent in order to get them to understand that they never had a computer problem; only user issues. Getting them to realize that without ever having to say it can be fun. ;)

Doh...engineering is high up there as well.

:doh1:Without a doubt!

Joke that an engineer can appreciate:

How many software engineers does it take to change a lightbulb?
None.

That's a hardware problem!

Now come talk to me when you've done tech support *for* engineers!! LOL They can be the worst. Right up there with lawyers...
^_^

lol
Sounds as if your job is very funny.. but I guess that level of stupidity grates after a few times!Comedy and tragedy! What more could you ask for? lol

I was tech support WHILE IN engineering school. :D I actually enjoyed it, though, but, yeah, when people are already irritated because they have to call you to begin with, the greatest challenge can be allowing them to vent in order to get them to understand that they never had a computer problem; only user issues. Getting them to realize that without ever having to say it can be fun. ;)I worked with some engineering students. Fun times! Very smart people.

I had to let someone vent yesterday. It was touch and go there for a minute! But when they finally let me get a word in, I got them up and running and "out the door" quick.
People skillz in tech support are a must. I hate to admit it, but sometimes moreso than tech skillz...

Hello everyone. A little confused about tomorrow. I'm as introverted as it gets (shy too) and I'm going to something completely new tomorrow. A young adult group.I was *very* shy when I got started with a group like that back in "my day." lol

It did worlds of good for me in opening up and getting a jump start on my new faith.

The first couple times may be rough. Just get to know a few people at first and you'll blend in soon enough!

Will be praying, Ish.
I am sure that it will be great, once you get over the initial hurdle of actually walking in.
Remember, you are a very lovely person, and you'll be a blessing! I find in those situations, it helps to look for someone who is feeling as shy and nervous as I am, and concentrate on trying to make them feel accepted and included.. takes your eyes of yourself and your mind off the fear...

Ya I'm working overtime making sure I don't go radical & trying to keep some humor along the way -
it doesn't help with a husband that has the news on 24/7 when he walks in the door.

White tea is not at all strong, yet provides all the benefits of green tea, with less caffeine. This meets all my criteria.

Coffee is my first choice as well, but when one marries a Brit and plans to move to his country, it's best to make an attempt to assimilate. I need to cut back on caffeine, anyway, so it's all good, but I detest green tea. It actually makes me sick to my stomach.

To heck with the food. There is enough incredible beer there to keep anyone happy. :D

I will be making a great deal of things from scratch that are normally found ready-made here; like enchilada sauce and onion soup mix. It's OK, though, as I love to cook and not all English cuisine is that bad.

White tea is very mild and pleasant. It needs nothing added to it as it's not bitter or violently strong.

ROFL! Tell me about it! But I'm marooned in one of our glorious colonies and am about as far from France as you can get! I'm in New Zealand now and oh how I miss the fish, chip and mushy pea.:yum:

But what a coincidence! Just yesterday they had a French Day just round the corner from me and it was freaking awesome! I didn't realise we had so many French peeps down here! Oh yum, I was trying all the French cheeses but had to skip the pastries (on a diet, groan). And it was the first time I tried that drink, Pastise, that they drink before playing petanque. Urgh yuck, it's revolting, aniseedy...puke. But oh yeah, French cuisine is hard to beat!

Oh you coulda skipped just for one day~called it "Research" and reported to us how good it was...:yum:

LOL! Oh I was sorely tempted I tell ye! :holy: But I had just been to a Farmers Market prior and had already scoffed the following:

:yum:

*Some funny pastry ball with curry in it (Indian)
*dunked and slurped my way through about 10 samples of ciabatta with different varieties of dips and flavoured oils (Greek and Italian)
*cracker and pickles
*washed down with a delicious new flavoured passionfruit Ice Tea someone has brought out down here.

:yum:

LOL. My tummy was full and the diet ruined by the time I made it to the French Day. But have no fear, they're having another one on 7 Dec and me intends to do a Marie Antionette! I shall be having my cake and eating eating too, preferrably in the form of the coffee eclair I spied yesterday. ^_^
