View Full Version : Final name call

OK, the 'new name thread' has been active for some time now, with not many name suggestions. The two key ones which have come through are:
1. 'scripture, tradition and reason- anglicanism' or
2. 'canterbury cathedral- anglicanism'

note: i've added the anglicanism bit myself, but if anyone has any objections please post.
As this is all our forum i think it's important we all have a say, but i don't see any need in taking our time with it if noone has any further input. So please, either say yay or nay to these two, or propose others.

I have no objections. Although we might get some "Episcopal=Anglican?" questions, I personally don't think it will be that big of an issue...even though I use "Episcopalian" myself :P

I'll go with option B, "Canterbury Cathedral" :)

Canterbury Tales? :)

That was one of my other early suggestions ;)

I would go with "Scripture and Tradition: Anglican Discussion", and remove the "Reason". Mainly because it may cause certain people, who are sensitive to the phrase, to react negatively, when "reasoning" is added.

Or option 2...

tomuea, thanks for the PM, BTW...I thought I'd just express my opinions here...:)

I like Option 2.

If we go with Scripture, Tradition, Reason, we must keep Reason in. It's meaningless without it; from an Anglican viewpoint it's a two legged stool and will not stand.

I like Canterbury Tales...

What Karl said, BA -- it's as classic a phrase for Anglicans as "Francis, rebuild My church" or "The world is my parish" or "Hier ich stehe" is for other groups.

Ahhh, I see said the blind man...

Ok, heck, go for it...it's got a nice ring to it. :)

tomuea, thanks for the PM, BTW...I thought I'd just express my opinions here...:)No canturbury, it does not speak for Anglicanism as a whole.

My denomination is neither under, or in communion with the ABC. It is not fair to name the forum under Canturbury.

That and there are some Anglicans that aren't exactly "reasonable" haha.

Colabomb, I personally do not like that assertion. The AC is a diverse Church, and while your's might not be, it is, nonetheless, a long-standing Anglican tradition among us ACers. In addition, "Scripture, Tradition, and Reason" has been the grounds for the Anglican tradition and the AC as well.

And because my Church is diverse and your's and mine will both be posting in this forum, you'll be posting in this forum along with those whom you'll still disagree with. Posts like that are rather hurtful, and I would personally appreciate it if you chose your words more carefully.

OK, so far, 'Scripture, Tradition and Reason- Anglican Discussions' is the only wholly accepted forum name so far. Personally i like both this and Canterbury tales, and there has been agreement for both. My personal opinion is that as many as are possible should agree, and STAR seems to be the most popular. I really should've put up a poll, but i'm english and scared of technolodgy so didn't dare! :)
I did initially propose this forum name and so don't want to be accused of only accepting my personal choice. Therefore, please, if you object to this name then just post a message either on this forum, to the mod or to me and we will choice other names.

PS: i only just realised that scripture tradition and reason forms STAR. hehe, that's funny :D

Brothers and sisters, let's not get too wrapped up in the logistics of naming this forum, in that we start to nitpick over little things.

I would suggest that we pick a name that is the most common and most agreed upon, and that's that.

I would suggest that a final date, being Friday, be established...and the OP then send an email to Erwin, CC'ed to Angel, for the new name.

Just my $0.02... ya know, I'm just "that Catholic guy" here... :P

It was a joke lol.

As long as the reasoning is based on Tradition and Scripture, I have no issue with the title lol.

I was just goofing.

Well, I don't think we'll get anymore voters. As such, I'll "unofficially" end the poll now, but if I see votes posted before 12:00am midnight EST, then they'll be counted.

The unofficial final tally as of 10:57pm Eastern Standard Time (EST):

Canterbury Cathredral: 3 (Bartimeus, PaladinValer and jhollas)
Canterbury Tales: 3 (polycarp1, rooster, and september)
Scripture, Tradition, Reason: 5 (pmcleanji, tomuea, BAChristian, Karl - Liberal Backslider, and Colabomb)

Projected winner in bold

rooster
21st May 2004, 11:14 PM
advocates for cantebury tales and cantebury cathedral are stealing each others votes!
haha

Polycarp1
21st May 2004, 11:18 PM
Remember that the networks got into trouble for calling projected winners before the polls closed!! :P

Seriously, I'll alert Erwin in the staff forum just after midnight as to what the proposed name change will be: presumably "Scripture, Tradition and Reason -- Anglican discussions" matching the other forum names. (Putting it there clarifies that we've already openly polled forum members and avoids the problem that anything posted in Suggestions & Help gets turned into a debate by somebody.)

Technically, it should be BA doing that -- but carrying that message is within my licit duties, and he has his hands full in OBOB, so I'll take up the slack.
