Friends,

What works would you suggest to someone who is new to Reform theology?
I have a background in church history and RC theology so your suggestions can carry some depth. I have my Bible, have read some Luther and some of Calvin's Institutes but where do I go next? Yeah I know...to church....but you know what I mean. (Is finding a church is something you want me to leave for another day?)

You help is, as always, deeply appreciated.

Regards,
Henry

to answer really depends on narrowing down the topic a little bit.
as far as a comprehensive website, i like, monergism.com

finishing Institutes would be my best recommendation however. *grin*

To BronxBriar

The Reformed Web site "Monergism.com" is the best place to get Reformed articles on every subject. It is run by a PCA Guy. Hit the tab on Theology and there are 50 subjects with 50 Treatise's each. Both old (1600's) and new writers.

Have Fun

I could add to the list, but you have plenty for a while. I will say that when you look for a church I would recommend the PCA or the OPC. Another great website is reformed.org

I have heard it said that the Reformed faith is the true Christian's last stop. Once the beauty of scripture is revealed, one never goes back.

Thanks for all the advice! You guys and gals are the best!
My local bookstore did have Sproul's "Faith Alone", that looked good, so I am going to start with that....and of course taking the institutes a bit at time.....I also found a nice pocket sized Bible that I can carry around with me....As a catholic I never took scripture that seriously (sad to say). BETTER LATE THAN NEVER! AMEN!

Henry

AS someone else has said finishing the institutes would be the best. There are so many misconceptions of Calvin that by reading of the institutes and other writings will keep you from believing. RC Sproul is also very good (like others have said again) because he makes everything so understandable. Also read anything by Edwards that you can get.

I can't say enough about Michael Horton's book "Putting Amazing Back Into Grace." I read this book when I was at a point where I accepted reformed teaching, but didn't understand it. The reading is thought provoking, easy to follow, and makes you regain your amazement at grace. Humanity is all about what someone has done for you lately, or how likely are you to contribute in the future. Grace, based on either of these is neither amazing nor is it grace.

This is the book that flipped the switch for me, so now I love every aspect of the reformed doctrines.

IF you are interested in "Calvinism" there are many good works, but not all are "Reformed." Many are by some fine Baptists, but Baptist theology is opposed to much what I would consider "Reformed."

I'm 310 pages into Calvin's Institutes, and I too recommend that you continue with Calvin. I also recommend:
Given For You: Recovering Calvin's Doctrine of the Lord's Supper (http://store.draughthorsepress.com/givenforyou.html)byKeith Mathison
