I hope you are right, and he does change his mind! :) But, from what we are hearing, it's a done deal.
Trust me, the press has hounded Brett for 6 years about when he's going to retire....we all thought it was funny when he played with them a couple of years ago. But, you are a big football guy, and you may remember it differently than I do. Call it fibro fog for me! ^_^
Well, maybe he was just playing with the press a couple years ago. All I know is that he said he was retiring and then he changed his mind and played again.

As to the election... It seems the Republican party thinks that we will vote for the clowns. Sadly, the won't allow Allan Keys to run. He's tried, and they just shut him out. Certainly a better man by far than anyone running now.:sigh: Regarding Barak Obama and his middle name? The man's father burdened him with it. The media seems bent on ensuring the Democrat gets elected this time. Has anyone noticed that the Repubs barely get mentioned? Yet the Dems are the main subject. So much for fair air time... Don't you just love the un-biased reporting we get from Pravd... um, our media?
THE ROBINS HAVE ARRIVED! Along with the Canadian Geese. Yet, the supply line from the spring house is still freezing from time to time.
Stopped by Walmart yesterday and bought some Jiffy trays. Love the things for starting seeds. We'll have a Cracker-Jack garden this year.:D They also had a great deal on sixty Glad bulbs. George really likes them, so I splurged.
Anyone for a wee cuppa? I'll be Mother! The pot's 'stinky tea' today (LOL). No biscuits today, anyone else have some around? I picked up some crackers and peanuts to make Mum's peanut biscuits (cookies to us Yanks) yesterday. Perhaps I'll bring some to the kitchen in the next few days.
Hope you all have a great day!

This is what happens when theology is approached like physics. One looks toward finite answers and the other growth in closeness to the One who IS the answer. The need to solve a problem drives one course of study while the other is fed by, while in turn feeding, one's faith. :)

I'm not a huge fan either- and Green Bay isn't even my fav. team- but not everyone is upset. My hubby is a Green Bay fan and when he heard, he said "good for him!" He's just glad Brett is getting out without any serious injuries- which is how many retire anymore. I think a lot of people just wish they had a 'farewell year'. Everyone knows he's not going to play forever- at 38 years he's plenty old, for a football player.
Even though I wasn't a big fan, I still enjoyed watching him. That's another thing about Brett- there were a lot of games where he would do some awesome pass at the very end of the game and pull off another win. He's a lot of fun to watch, and people will miss that.

Yes, well, we've paid him quite well to play a child's game long enough. Perhaps it's time he did something useful and productive after retirement.
We pay far too much to people who are non-productive in our society. Who are the highest paid amoungst our people? Actors, Golfers, Sports stars (Football, Basket ball, etc...), and politicians. God forbid we should pay people who actually DO something usefull!
I get so tired hearing people carp and whine about the prices in the local stores around here (in Trinity County). Yet, when they discuss sports, none of that comes up. They have no problem with ball players demanding salaries in the millions. Yet the poor woman who has the store up the street hears complaints about how expensive bread, milk and beer cost. She has to drive her own truck thirty to forty miles to pick up supplies and is expected to do it for free. Go figure.
Sorry if that sounds like a rant. Still, I get sick of hearing about sports stars when the local businesspeople and pastors (the real heros in our country not to mention the vanishing family farmer) are just barely scraping by. It's like the title of a book I want to get, "This Present Insanity".

I'm not saying everything that Brett Favre has done is worth while and useful, but he and his wife donate much to charity. They also have started some charities. Just before Reggie White died, he and Brett were planning another charity.
He has given much more to our communities than football. Also, football is the talent that God gave him. He was no angel...but neither am I.
As for farmers.....my husband has worked with farmers his whole life. He has been one himself. They lead a hard life, and I give them much credit. But, I also know that farmers need to treat their farms as a business. There are many successful farmers out there. They are excellent managers. It's not a hobby, it's a business.

I stand corrected as to this particular ball player. Perhaps he has had such a long career because this is where Brett was used. As to Farmers and your husband, Seajoy, I beleive you mis-understood me. I rank Farmers, people like your husband, and other like small businesspeople as the greater heros of this country. These people are the ones who should be recieving a greater reward, and respect, than they currently are.
And I agree, sports figures do make too much money. And many blow it on nonsense.
I would agree with this statement with the possible exception of, "And many...". The fact sadly is that most of them just fritter the money away on themselves. The entertainment trade (movies, music, etc...) is even worse.
Just a minor difference of opinion. Though I still respect the differences others here may share from myself.

I have to agree with Stude. There are the exceptions to every rule, such as Brett, Boomer, Collinsworth, Munoz (yes, the last three are former Bengals. Hey, I'm from Cincy. *G*) etc.
But they are few and far between. Look at all the trouble the Bengals had this past season and the season before. I think it was 9 or 10 arrests the previous season for drunken driving, drug possession, assault...
We take some of these kids out of desperate situations and pile them with money. We don't give them any understanding on just what to DO with all that money. They didn't get it at home, at school...
And speaking of schools...wouldn't it be a wonderful thing indeed if we treated our teachers like we treat our professional sports players? If we gave them the money they deserve. I mean, after all, if it weren't for many of these teachers getting these kids started in these sports, we wouldn't HAVE these professional sports teams in the first place.
We need to give our kids better role models...and I, for one, think that our teachers, the men and women who get up everyday and work 10, 12, 14 hours a day(!!!) often using their own money to make sure the kids in their classrooms have the basic needs...tissues, pencils, paper, sometimes even food. I would be in favor of paying public school teachers more if they actually did anything to get paid for. Public schools in this country are a joke. They are cesspools of immorailty and ignorance. The teachers and their unions have ruined education in this country. If they are so great, why do we have a growing number of kids graduating high school who cannot read or write, and why do the standardized test score of US students rank among the lowest in the world?

Where do you live?? Certainly no where I've ever been or heard of. Public schools are way over funded by the government for the level of education they provide. All schools should be competitive. And we need vouchers!!!

And if more parents were involved in what their kids were doing instead of trying to be their friends, perhaps maybe the teachers could actually teach instead of having to spend 95% of class disciplining the students.
Parents these days (except for the rare few) don't send their kids to school for an education, they send them there for the free babysitting. They don't get involved.

That may be true to an extent, but in a society that demands two incomes in a family, or a society that promotes single parenthood, it's not an easy fix.
What is needed is smaller schools and not centralized zoos, smaller classes, uniform dress, and the ability of the school to discipline. Kids get away with murder (literally) in this society. They aren't held accountable for anything because of their age. Nonsense!!

I agree entirely with you Revrand. My youngest son was taught recognition reading and can't read worth beans. Vouchers would be a Godsend for the educational system in this country. Sadly, if that system were instituted, the Federal Government would horn in on what private schools are teaching. Then again, if we were giving out vouchers, the savings to the state would make it possible to refuse Federal funding for our schools thereby eliminating their leverage.
I hear that the California supreme court has decreed that all home schoolers must have the same credentials as professional teachers to teach their own children. Ah yes, isn't it great when the courts begin to legislate? Especially when the winners are the teachers union????

Not all public schools are 100% incompetent. Our school district is absolutely wonderful. My daughter is a straight A student usually (a B here and there though) and is learning a lot...and even sooner in the subjects compared to when I learned them.
I'm an involved parent though and volunteer my time when it's needed and on some committees as well.

There are problems with/in Christian schools also.
I know of several public schools that are good. No, they don't promote Christianity, but other than that they are good. I would not blame Christian parents who cannot afford elementary school tuition for sending their kids to a public school. (In fact, I used to be against private schools...christian or not... because we have to live in the real world anyway)

While there are exceptions to every rule, generally speaking public schools are inefficient at best.
I did some research a few years ago. It costs twice as much to educate a child in a public school than it does a private school, and yet the standardized test scores of public school students rank below that of some third world countries. When I discovered this I was appalled, but not surprised.
I remember a few years ago the federal government wanted to have periodic evaluations of public school teachers, and the unions had an absolute fit. I never heard much more about it since then. I often wondered why teachers were so against competancy testing. Are they afraid of something?

My children went to public grade school and then went on to a WELS high school. My kids found the differences to be astounding. The teachers actually cared about them in the Lutheran school. They also found that many of their friends did not appreciate what going to a Christian school meant. Most of them had been products of parochial school from kindergarten on. Being able to talk of their beliefs without ridicule, and praying in one voice was so wonderful to them. They wouldn't have traded it for anything.
My hubby and I couldn't really afford to send them to the WELS high school....but someone told us, "once you make the decision, God will provide." And He did. :)

I, for one though, take issue with the Lutheran schooling system, so that's a whole other matter.
You don't like Lutheran schools? I suppose there are some bad ones...they sure can't be worse than what's being taught in public schools. The one our kids went to for high school was top notch. :)

There's an interesting conversation going on in the Liberal forum on the LCMS:
http://christianforums.com/t6969852-the-lutheran-church-missouri-synod.html
I found their comments interesting.
As to the public vs. private schools; it really disturbs me what the Federal Government and courts will attempt to do in controlling our children. Now that parents are opting out of the public system in record numbers, the Feds are using increasingly more pressure to retain control of our children. Even to the point of impressing un-ratified treaties that Congress refuses to deal with. Until Congress starts to deal with these activist judges (as in impeachment), this situation will only get worse. If Hillary gets elected, look out!:ebil:

I would be in favor of paying public school teachers more if they actually did anything to get paid for. Public schools in this country are a joke. They are cesspools of immorailty and ignorance. The teachers and their unions have ruined education in this country. If they are so great, why do we have a growing number of kids graduating high school who cannot read or write, and why do the standardized test score of US students rank among the lowest in the world?
Where do you live?? Certainly no where I've ever been or heard of. Public schools are way over funded by the government for the level of education they provide. It costs public schools twice as much to educate a child for one year than it does a private or parochial school, and the level of education from the private and parochial schools is much higher.
All schools should be competitive. And we need vouchers!!!
There. My rant. :)
While I partially agree with you, DaRev, I do need to say something in defense of public school teachers. I have a very good friend who teaches in our local public school- high school English. She is a VERY good teacher, but is so frustrated by the unwillingness of the kids to even want to learn. Sure, you have some kids that are good, but there are SO many at-risk kids. The school's hands are tied as far as discipline goes anymore, so kids feel free to make up excuses to walk out of class at anytime and not come back- or just not do the homework assigned. The kids have no respect for authority. Do their parents come to conferences? No. Does my friend have time to track down every kid and get them back into the classroom, or should she be using that time to teach the kids that ARE there?
How many extra people do we have to hire to walk the halls and check the bathrooms? Detention is the only 'punishment' anymore- these kids don't want to be there in the first place, so what good does detention or suspension do? Nothing. Call their parents? Nobody cares there- the attitude still prevails with some around here- "My parents got a 'good job' without a high school diploma (or only a HS diploma) - so I can too." Yeah, it's total crap, but this is what we have to deal with.
Ok- that was my rant. Off the soapbox now. :)

Leslie Carbone, writing in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/opinion/sfl-schoolscol25forumnbaug25,0,226922.story), writes about the National Education Association (NEA) unions.
"The NEA shows no reservations about taking teachers’ union dues and spending them to spread a radical political agenda. Annual NEA dues can reach as high as $500. A little of it goes toward core union activities, like collective bargaining for contracts that keep members from having to attend after-school meetings or teach another’s class in an emergency. Some goes toward the hefty paychecks of NEA staffers, thousands of whom rake in six-figure annual salaries, far more than the teachers who pay them.
And a lot — as much as half, by some estimates — goes toward politicking. The NEA doesn’t restrict itself to lobbying on issues that directly affect education, like the No Child Left Behind Act. It doesn’t even restrict itself to weighing in on issues that indirectly affect education, like tax reform, which it sees as a threat to its own cash flow. The union lobbies on a host of unrelated issues, like statehood for the District of Columbia, even though many of its dues-payers don’t want it to.
Fortunately, teachers do have some recourse. In right-to-work states, they don’t have to pay union dues at all. And in others, while they can be required to pay dues for core union activities, they cannot be forced to pay for politicking, public relations or other non-essential union activities.
The NEA has done a solid job of stacking the deck against students, parents and teachers who want good schools. But that can change, if everyone interested in quality education stands up — and stops turning money over — to the NEA-borhood bully."

I agree with what you are saying. And there are a few causes for this. One is that kids are not held responsible for anything because of their age. The so-called "youthful offender status" is a joke. It teaches nothing. Many parents don't feel they have any recourse for unruly kids because even their hands are tied in many ways. Another problem is the way in which public schools are structured. I don't know about other parts of the country, but in areas that I have been in there is this movement to build larger schools in these out-of-the-way rural areas and herd kids into overcrowded classrooms. Teachers simply cannot control classes with 30+ kids. What we need are smaller regional schools with smaller class sizes. The problem in part is the unions and the increased costs of public education.
There are many good teachers in our schools. All three of my kids had the same fourth grade teacher. She was the most caring individual I have ever known. But she was in a vast minority.

I had a public school education (first Catholic in my family to not have to go to Catholic school and yes I am proud of that fact), and I think I turned out ok, and I used to defend it as a fine place to get a good education. Used to.
Maybe not to the extent you are talking, but some of the things you say, especially about the lack of discipline, is making me seriously consider private schools. I can think of 3 area kids off hand who got pulled out of public schools because they were being bullied. My sister-in-law is a public school teacher and my mother-in-law is a paraprofessional aid, and the stuff they talk about in what goes on horrifies me.
Also, let's face it, I'm adopting 2 black kids in a mostly white area, and we hope to move further west, which is even whiter. There are a lot of racist people out there, and while my kids will have to learn that, I also have a duty to keep that kind of exposure to an extreme minimum and take a zero tolerance approach to the issue. I may not have much of a choice where private schools are concerned.
My husband works 2 blocks from Lutheran South. I hope he stays there - that would be convenient - but that's something that I would have to worry about years down the road, and pharmacists don't always stay at the same store in his company.

** get in a recycling program -- there are some groups that provide everything and then pay the church or school for the paper collected (locally at least for me)
** create a mailbox system at church (saves postage and the carbon emissions from the mail truck) for newsletters and such
** switch to the energy saving lightbulbs
** adjust the temp on all the thermostats -- and turn them higher/lower during the week when no one is there
** low flow toilets or a brick in the upper tank to lower the water usage

Thanks, dinkime, we're doing most of those already...except the lightbulbs and the mailbox thing.
Some of the ideas we came up with are to utilize our dishes more in the kitchen and do away with paper and plastic as much as we can although we realize we can't totally do away with those things. We're going to help people learn how to work the dishwasher since it's someone intimidating to a lot of our members.
We're basically starting in the kitchen and building from there. Baby steps :)

I feel a little strange asking this...but...Oscar is one of God's creatures too so...(and I'm going to ask that there be no inappropriate...or even if you think it might be appropriate...dead cat jokes or I hate cats comments. Please.)
My boy cat, Oscar is getting ready to turn 13 a couple of days after Easter. Late last week I noticed that he just wasn't himself. Knowing that he's getting older, I took him to the vet for a check up. Vet said there's something wrong but his symptoms are so slight (and he's so cranky) that they'd need blood tests to make sure. The three contenders for older cats are Thyroid disease (treatable and curable) Diabetes (treatable) and Kidney disease (neither treatable nor curable but palative care can be done to help extend life and keep him comfortable)
Vet just called with the test results of his blood work. He has chronic kidney disease which means it's been going on for a while and he could either continue like this for years OR he could go downhill VERY fast no matter what we do for him.
This is my baby. I've had him since before he was born. (his mommy cat lives at my parent's place) I watched him be born, I've done everything in my power to keep him healthy and happy (and rather spoiled.)
So...if you could please...pray that God gives him more years to be with his human Mommy? I can't take losing him right now.

I'm going tonight for the "giving an injection" lesson. The fiancé isn't too keen on it. He said he might faint. *sigh* it'll be okay though.
How is everyone else doing?

He won't faint. Subcutaneous injections aren't difficult once you get used to giving them and there is little blood loss if any. We used to always buy our pet vaccine kits at the co-op to save money and cats don't squeal like dogs do. The biggest issue is sticking yourself. :P

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to have much trouble. I had to give myself injections for a bit for my Factor V Leiden.
Mike is another case though. *G* He used to be a phlebotomist so he's used to sticking people. However, when I was in the ER for something or another (don't really remember) I was sitting there joking with the student nurse who was digging around in my hand for my (rather prominent) vein. Mike went down like a sack o' bricks. LOL
He said it wasn't the fact that I was getting stuck. It was the fact that *I* was getting stuck. If you catch what I'm saying.
Oscar is a grumpy old man for the most part. He'll be all grumpy with me and I may have to towel him but, I think we'll get through this.

I'm back from the Vet's. Mike didn't faint but he did turn a very interesting shade of gray and then had to leave the room.
Oscar did VERY well. He's totally unimpressed with me though. I think I did pretty well...thanks to Porter's assurance that the cat wouldn't squeal. *G* Thanks again!
Jim, I asked about the cranberries and the vet tech said that it was an interesting idea and that there are supplements that he can (and most likely will be) take but that usually cranberries are reserved for bladder infections. But she said it was a good question. So thanks!
Thanks to everyone for your prayers for him and for me. I totally appreciate all the well wishes.
Love ya all!

Well, I have returned from wandering around the world. Enjoyed the summer time temps and returned to where there is still snow on the ground, although much less. Yep, even got a little sunburned although that will fade fast.
Now to convince myself that I am in the CDT time zone and am not in the China time zone or whatever they call it, I will be good. Seeing the niece in Taiwan was great. She serves as an LCMS missionary teaching English and Religion there.
Looks like there have been good times here on the forum. I think I have gotten caught up here.
I learned how to brew green tea while there and brought some back with me. Got good at eating with chopsticks, the first meal served on the plane, I was looking for my sticks, oops now is the time for forks!
Well, it is time for me to try to get back to bed. See you all later.

How many of the 350 or so do you want to see?
Started the week out in Taipei seeing the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial which some interesting things are going on there. Also saw Taipei 101, the tallest building.
Off to Chaiyi where Concordia Academy is and where the niece teaches. Visited her classes. Did some sight seeing, had lots of interesting and wonderful food with lots of wonderful people.
Attended Bible Study that is outreach and many people attend. Worship in Mandarin was fun (bulletin in Mandarin for the bulletin topic, which I could not read at all), Team Taiwan Bible Study, lots of fellowship.
Purchased lots of fabric to fuel my fabric/quilting addiction. At $3 a yard, well had to purchase lots.
Now, it it wasn't so long in an airplane, it would have been perfect. A total of 19 hours in coach is a long time. How many times does one have to go through security in a day? Well, it was 4 for us on Thursday.
When I get photos all loaded on the computer and sorted, I will post some, somewhere and let you know.

The Vet's going to call with the list of "extras" he can have. I tried the cranberry juice last night and he was rather unhappy that it was anywhere near him. *G* He's a picky boy. Yogurt used to be his special treat back when he was a kitten. I guess he got tired of it and wouldn't eat it so I haven't tried it again. I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Poor kitten. He wanted their food badly so I had to scoop him up and put him in the bathroom to eat. YAY for Oscar eating most of his food! Our cat is having issues also..the vet said she has bladder infection and we have to give her antibiotics and behavioral pills as we figure her not using her litterbox is a combination of both of those problems. She's in a cage and I can actually here her sadly meowing right now..I certainly hope we can let her out soon..:(
``
On a brighter note..is it ever GOOOOOOOOD to be back in Milwaukee!! :D I'm SOOO glad band fest is over..nothing against Michigan, but their water fountains and pop were starting to get to me, and then there was the different time zone..plus I missed Palm Sunday at my home church..
So on the seven hour bus trip a few hours ago, we drove through Chicago in the dark. EVERYTHING is totally green (even the river I heard; no joke, they have lights in it or something.) because of St. Patrick's day. It's cool seeing the skyline in the dark.
Our band played really well. I ordered a professional recording on CD of the concert, so when it comes sometimes next month I'll upload it so ya'll can hear.
Anyways..good to be back on CF..these four days away were really dragging..

WElcome back breadalone.
I have my grandchildren here, they went to church with me, they had a potluck dinner and an easter egg hunt afterwards, when the 2 yr old would pick up an egg, if there wasn't anything in it, which most of them didn't, she'd throw the egg back on the ground. Had this retired pastor of this church ask me if the other church made a call yet, I said I have no idea. He goes I guess you've been here as much as you've been there. Another incident happened at that other church too.

Our church is holding a Seder meal on Tuesday, to explain the significance of Passover to the Jews, and lead into Maundy Thursday. I'm thinking of having Gem read that story in her Bible (she's so proud of her all-pink "big girl Bible" that she won't even open the children's Bible story books anymore). Then, we'll watch the plagues in The Ten Commandments as a visual reinforcement. The boy in the movie speaks the traditional Seder question "Why is this night different from all other nights?" usually asked by the youngest person at the meal, and starting the explanation of God's mercy and judgement.

BA, I hope your kitty gets over the bladder infection soon. If he/she still has potty troubles, try some Feilaway (http://www.1800petmeds.com/Comfort+Zone+For+Cats-prod10776.html). It's expensive but GOLLY does it work!

I was looking for a version of that song to post here to show you guys, as we're using it as the theme for our mid-week Lenten services, and I thought it was cool and I wanted you to hear it.
So anyways, I find this version of the song on youtube, and thought it was just amazing. So I showed it to my dad, thinking it would be cool to show in church. He showed it to Pastor, and next thing you know they had plans to play it in church on Palm Sunday.
So they did play it, but neeless to say I wasn't there as I was at band fest. But my family said people were in tears. One elderly man told me today he choked up on account of it, and I was talking to Pastor today and he said that he was speechless at the end and pretty much just walked down the aisle out of church at the end. I really wish I could've been there..
So anyways, here it is for your guys' benefit! :)

It depends on the reason why the cat is chewing on the cords. They could try it. I'd recommend Apple Bitters for this problem though. Should be sold in pet stores and shouldn't be as expensive as the Feliaway.

BreadAlone, I'm wondering of which piece of music you're speaking. Your picture is a blank square with a multi-coloured square in the left corner. My youngest was in Band too. He really loved it.
As to the cat chewing cords, if the habit isn't broken, you may no longer have a house. More than one pet has burnt down a home that way. Personally, I wouldn't put up with it. My home is more important than a cat, bird, or whatever. If Apple Bitters doesn't work... Thankfully that's not my choice to make.
I've run into this problem with cats. Twice we delt with it successfully. Both quickly became barn cats. Both loved it. One of these queens decided she wanted to chew the wiring in the barn though. I caught her and thankfully had a large cage that could serve as a cattery. We kept her in it when she couldn't be watched. Thankfully she grew out of the habit over time.

Hi everybody! Took a friend to Easter services yesterday. She was facinated by the whole thing and really loved the Pastor's message. Poor fellow looked exhausted and delivered his message rather dispiritedly. The sermon itself was excellent. I took another friend along as well, but he wanted to attend the local happy-clappy with his brother. Pity that, he would have gotten a lot out of the Pastor's message (Jesus saying, "Go to this place, I will go ahead of you..."). I was kind of disturbed by the lack of... for lack of a better word, soleminity, during communion. It seemed just a bit disrespectful. People were chatting and laughing in line and would just pop and down then toss the cup (they were disposable). It just... bothered me. First time I'd taken communion in several years.

Wow...never seen that happen in church.
I'm glad you were able to take Communion though, Stude. Christ's Presence was there for you....try to remember that when you think of your time there. Satan would love for you to focus on the other stuff and forget the joy you had in going to the Lord's Table.

Maybe a soft bed, warm blankies and a dark room??? With lots of prayer added in.

Thanks Kae,
I just got out of the sauna where I took my bible with me. Prayers went up as well. Are you in pain too today? I prayed for you also.
So far I'm still hurting very much, but the comfort of talking with Jesus has lessened the burden. It's hard to explain to folks what it's like to hurt every day. I went over to the "chronic pain" forum, but I always feel more comfortable talking with my Lutheran friends over here, so I didn't post over there. I suppose it gets old for you all to listen to me, but I consider you dear friends.

Well, Luv, that's what friends are for. Don't talk nonsense, we're here to help and support one another. That's what the great apostle was talking about when he said we should care for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Besides, if you didn't tell us, what would we have to pray for?;) :groupray:
Hang in there, Sis, things will get better.

Here's some quotes from Reclaim News that I got a laugh out of (emphasis mine)::D
The Rev. Gerald Kieschnick, the synod's current president, has pushed church
marketing over the Lutherans' historic confession of faith by repeatedly
telling the laity, "This is not your grandfather' s church."
Mr. Kruta explained that Missouri
Synod members should have drawn the line sooner about how much deviation
they would tolerate in the church. "Seriously, this has been like waking up
in the hospital after surgery only to find that the wrong limb has been
amputated and no one will admit who the surgeon was," he said.
As synod bureaucrats support congregations that hide their Lutheran identity
while terminating the strong witness of "Issues, Etc.," [B]members of the
denomination are asking if they can have their grandfather' s church back...

Here's some quotes from Reclaim News that I got a laugh out of (emphasis [bolding] mine)::D Too much, too little, too late. As I said in another forum Lutherans are very forgiving and in a year everything will be forgotten. Big K will be elected (inaugerated--like a monarchy) again because he knows how to say (evade) all the right things

You know, a while back I received an oversized post card in the mail from one of the "we serve coffee and donuts during the sermon...it's SOCIAL HOUR!" churches around here.
The first thing it said was:
"THIS IS NOT YOUR GRANDMA'S CHURCH"
And boy was I offended. I even called up and left a message for them to PLEASE take me off their mailing list because I was highly offended that they'd think MY church, my lovely, God fearing, Gospel preaching, Lord Honoring church could be...*gasp* boring. How can you be bored when you're praising God? Isn't it about Him instead of about us?
I never received an answer back. I still get their mailings as well.
So to have the President of the LCMS come out and say "this is not your Grandfather's church" ... well that just makes my blood boil and makes blood want to shoot out of my eyes.
Hmmm...speaking of that...I wonder if we could get Glenn Beck to do a segment on his show...that would raise some eyebrows I'm sure.
