Guys,
Have just been Baptised and Confirmed in Salisbury Cathedral, literally about four hours ago!
Such a fantastic occasion, and it felt all the better doing it in front of my family and friends, not least having my best friend by my side as my sponsor, as it was her who really brought me back to Jesus.
Just wanted to say a big thank-you to all those who posted messages of support!
I'm looking forward to the new journey! :holy:
God Bless!

Praise the Lord jhollas! May you always walk in the Spirit of goodness and righteousness where life leads you!!!!

Where is Salisbury Cathedral?

I was baptized as an infant and am thinking about perhaps next Easter being confirmed as well! Didn't do it this year because I'm still trying to decide between 2 churches, haven't made up my mind yet. There's pros and cons about each church, and I love them both!!!! One week it's one, next week the other, just waiting upon the Lord to let me know where he wants me!

God Bless You Friend in Christ,

Lilac

Lilac, I think in a different post, one of our fellow boardies posted a lovely picture of the cathedral along with Canterbury cathredral.

For this reason i bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strenthged with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesisans 3:14-21

Congratulations to all of you who have been confirmed in the past few days. There are many things that i could say, but i think Paul's prayer is sufficient. I pray that through the faith you have shown today Christ will always dwell in your hearts, and that you are continually grounded in the love of Him.

No, that was York Minster.

Salisbury cathedral, not surprisingly, is in Salisbury (near Stonehenge if that helps). It has (IIRC) the tallest spire in Britain. Also, IIRC, there are ghostly birds that circle the spire which are harbingers of the death of the incumbent.

According to folklore.... ;)

Didn't know that one Karl!
Just realised something about the Baptism though. I was the first to go, and the only one to get properly dunked in the Font. Wasn't sure how long the Bishop was going to hold me under the third time! :)
Everybody else had the water poured over them three times.
There's no significance to this, is there?

I was baptized in the Catholic Church as an infant and the method was pouring. In addition, all the baptisms so far that I've seen in my parish church have also been pouring.

It really depends on the rector and perhaps the bishop on what method is used. The AC as far as I know recognizes any baptismal method so long as it is said as per the BCP rite and with the Trinitarian formula.

I was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Episcopal church. There aren't a lot of us who stay in one denomination most of our lives. :)

Congratulations to you both.

Jhollas, I envy you. I've always thought that Salisbury Cathedral is probably the most beautiful Anglican church anywhere -- and I'd put it up against some of the Catholic Cathedrals like Chartres, Rheims, and Notre Dame for most beautiful church period.

Weve certainly got some amazing Cathedrals here. I live about 15mins walk from Norwich Cathedral, and whenever i get a chance i go there. There's just something so special about worshipping in a Cathedral.

I know what you mean tomuea. There is something really special about worshipping in a Cathedral.
Sometimes though, I do like to just go to my local parish church. It may not be as big and inspiring, but I personally feel a greater sense of community there.
