View Full Version : My tooth broke in half...

Okay, so it didn't break in half, but I've noticed a tiny chip in it. It's not sore, and it's a really tiny chip. Should I see my dentist? I'm due for a checkup, but even the sound of the drill almost makes me faint... :(

Maybe I should ask for carbon monoxide next time I need my teeth checked?

Nope. When I was a kid, I got a tooth busted out by a rock. The back half of the tooth was totally knocked out. I've gotten it filled 5 times by 4 different dentists and it's fallen out every time.

Yikes, what was the "nope" for? Seeing a dentist, or getting carbon monoxide?

Laughing Gas, if that's what you're thinking about, is Nitrus Oxide ;)
I advise no on getting it fixed.

The last time I checked, carbon monoxide is poisonous, and has no medical uses. It disrupts the binding and releasing of oxygen molecues with red-blood cells. I don't think you really want that. ;)

It depends somewhat on your age, and why your tooth chipped.
I problem with grinding my teeth for years, but a dedicated friend and roommate cured me of it.
However, what neither of us knew is that I was still clenching them in my sleep.
because I have been unable to see a dentist other than on a peicemeal basic for the last 15 years, this problem wasn't diagnosed until quite recently, when it was already pretty much too late.
My teeth are coming apart one by one, and I no longer have the funds to save them, even though my dentist could do so, and discounted the necessary work.
A filling he put in wouldn't fall out four times, either; he would handle that problem using a different method.
I strongly urge you to take the best care of your teeth that you possibly can, so that you won't have to suffer constant nerve pain in your fifties.
If you're in your fifties, and you've neglected your teeth from fear, it's equally important that you get all the damage control possible, ASAP.

Carbon monoxide or CO is deadly. You don't want to breathe that gas. It comes out of the tail pipe of a car.

Awww, thank you; you are all so kind. I knew I would get the gas types mixed up! I was never good at Chemistry as a subject. ;)
My teeth are in excellent condition, so I'm putting it down to a freak of nature. Thanks for your replies. I'm going back for another checkup soon, so perhaps I will just mention it anyway. Thank you!

Elizabeth, thanks for the happy wishes! I am sure I don't want to be inhaling gas from an exhaust pipe! My bad!

Let's hope my dentist would have discouraged the use of carbon monoxide had I requested it! :D

Did you enjoy your birthday? :)

Yes thank you. It was quiet. It was two months ago, so I can't remember much of it, other than it was quiet. Thank you for asking!

Maybe I should ask for carbon monoxide next time I need my teeth checked? You could, if you want to die.
Now, if you're referring to nitrous oxide, that's one thing, but carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas.
Edited to add: I see this has already been addressed. Nevermind.
