We needed a fellowship thread so here we go. I think the title befits what we, as Wesleyans, have in common. We can leave the ranting (and raving) for the Rant thread and come in here to chat.

Bring a covered-dish if you like...I usually bring macaroni & cheese when I attend. Come as you are, relax with friends and lets chat. If you want to share a testimony...great. If you want to tell us about yourself...great. We are family here.

Morning everyone. I pray that your day is going and will go great. May God richly bless each of you today.

I guess a little intro may be in order. My name is Dawn, I'm from slower, lower Delaware USA. I've been a christian most of my life. I grew up in the Methodist church, went to a Wesleyan church for a while and am now back to the church of my youth. I am an adult Sunday school teacher and the Sunday school Superintendent. I serve on the Administrative Council, Board of Trustees and am a member of the UMW. I am extremely addicted to CF! That means you'll see me around..a lot.

bigsierra, wvmtnkid and Celtie....howdy

Okay, my name is Flora and I currently live near Bristol TN -- about 6 miles from the racetrack/dragstrip. I grew up in Northern NY where I was a member of the Methodist portion of a Meth/Presb congregation. Then I moved to south central PA and was a member of a UMC. While there I was active in chior and helped with a jr. youth group for 2 years. After moving to TN 8 yrs ago, my husband, who suddenly had Sundays free instead of having to work, decided we would attend a non-denom. He feels they are "closer to the first century ideal"--whatever that means. So first we were at a "church of Christ", but we left when a new preacher proved to be a jerk. (I do not like being refered to as "non-Christian" because I am from a denominational background). Now we are attending a "Christian" church, actually, my husband and son are members, but my daughter and I are not. (we were not baptized "right"). So, I am the rebel Methodist in their midst. I am so glad I have found a place to connect with other Methodists and Wesleyans. I finally feel at home.
Other than the husband and 2 kids, I also have two cats, a beagle and a bloodhound to take care of.

 to all.........could someone pass the coffee???

Hello, my name is Scott. I grew up in a holiness church called the "Church of God." When I was 13, we started attending a large Nazarene church, near our house, since they believe very similar doctrine. The Lord drew me close to him and to repentance, when I was in college. I have been a believer ever since. It hasn't been a perfect walk, with a long stint, with the Presbyterians theology. I'm now, in preparation to go through RCIA classes to join the Catholic Church. I kind of feel like I'm coming back to Wesleyan belief, since they are so similar, when it comes to justification and holiness/christian perfection, how sin is defined and dealt with by God.
Anyway, I would like to see this forum get a good start, because of the major part Wesley has played in my life and the things I still go back to.

May God bless this forum.

Good morning, again!

I have been out of town for the last several days, so I was off of the forums for a bit and surprised to see the changes made to PRE when I logged on to CF this morning. While I am glad to see a place where I can fellowship with my fellow Wesleyan brothers and sisters, I am saddened to see PRE disbanned because of the strife that went on in there.

*Sigh* Anyway I'll just pour myself a cup of coffee and have a helping of apple crisp and visit with everyone!

I live in southern WV, and I see not to far from Celticflower (probably a couple of hours). I go to Bristol to Hamrick's occasionally! :) Anyway, I have been a United Methodist the majority of my life. My dad came from the Church of the Brethern, my mom went to both the Baptist and Methodist church. I went to all three some when I was growing up, though mostly to the United Methodist. When I was about 11 or 12, we made the decision to become United Methodist and that is where I have been ever since.

I am pretty involved in my church. I serve on the Church Council and the Program Council. I work with our youth and do some work with the children. I taught children's Sunday school until this year. I have become involved with a local mission team, which I dearly love. I am also on our church's Puppet Team, which is a hoot! :)

Celtie-I am glad you have found a home with us!

I hope to get to know each one of you better and all of those who are yet to join us!

I'll bring tuna salad! hehe :)

I'm Jenn...and I've been part of a United Methodist church since I was in 4th grade...age 10. During my time there, we've had 4 pastors. I was confirmed about 2 months before my 12th birthday. I reaffirmed my faith 2 weeks before my 20th birthday.

In the past I had been the president of the youth group, youth representative to the Administrative Council, Jr. Choir member, Sr. Choir member, Sunday School teacher, and Chairperson of the Worship Committee.

Currently I am the Communion Steward, Education committee member, lay speaker, and I work with the confirmation class and youth group.

I'm also involved in the Disciple 1 Bible study and Sunday mornings I take care of my pastor's now 3 year old son while she leads worship.

:)

Jenn-how do you like the Disciple Bible Study? The first one overwhelmed me so much it was 5 years before I was brave enough to take another!

AngelAmidala
8th May 2004, 02:05 AM
I really like it...but then again, my church started the first Disciple 1 class 4 years ago (that group is on Disciple 4 now) and I've been dying to take it ever since. They finally started a Sunday afternoon class that I could attend.

The reading isn't too bad for me, because I have a set devotional time for myself at night before I go to bed. So I do my reading for the class then. I think some of the most overwhelming stuff was the first few chapters when we were reading so much of Genesis. The one thing that helped me with this was that the Scripture class I was taking at school was also going through Genesis at the same time...so I was reading Genesis for both.

I think what also helps, at least for me (since normally I'm shy), is the group of people in my class. It's small (5 of us plus our leader). And I'm real comfortable with the people I'm in the class with. I think about the group that's on Disciple 4 now, and some of them I'd be comfortable sharing the stuff I've shared...but others I might not be.

I grew up Nazarene and about four other denominations...but primarily Nazarene.

While I am Catholic, I'd never give up my Protestant roots for anything, in terms of familiarity with the Bible and fervent spirit for our Savior...

And of course, I'm bringing' Krispy Kremes to this little party up in here... ;)

My name is Jeremiah. I am 15 years old and a Free Methodist. My dad is the pastor of the church. We just moved here last summer and are pretty happy. I go to the youth group and participate in some of the activities. I like CF even though I don't seem to have as many posts a day as some people.

Good morning all. Thought I would drop by before church. We don't have a dinner after church or any this week...sad.

I pray all the Mothers have a wonderful day today. If you're not a mother, I pray your day is wonderful as well.

May God's rich blessing fall down on you today.

I'm making a pot of coffe for later when we get back from church. Maybe we can fellowship then.

Hi Everybody! Hope you all had a nice weekend!

Mother's Day was nice for me. I was treated to breakfast in bed and a picnic lunch at the park followed by a splash in the creek.

But by far the best part of the day was right before the worship service. A young friend of mine is expecting her first baby (her hubby is the youth pastor). She has been having a tough time emotionally because her mom doesn't live close enough to share the experience. I know what it is like-I was pregnant in PA, my mom lived in NY. I had promised to make her a baby blanket, and since it was done, told her I would bring it on Mother's Day. I did not tell her about all the other goodies I'd put in with it tho' :D . Along with the blanket the baby got: a stuffed zebra rattle, a tube of diaper rash cream and a bottle of soothing baby wash. The Mom got: a copy of 1Corinth:13 (for Moms), the book,"Little Life lessons for Mothers" with a Mother's Love Cross crocheted bookmark, a box of chamomile tea, tea mug and crocheted doily/coaster, a lilac scented jar candle and a nursing shawl made out of a super soft yarn in her favorite color. Almost made her cry and she said I had certainly made her day.

Now my husband is putting together a basket for the daddy-to-be for Father's Day. So far he has--safety goggles, rubber gloves and a clothespin (you can tell where this is going can't you).

Celtie, how very nice of you to be her "surrogate" momma. You put a lot of thought and time on her presents. I'm sure she'll never forget it.

My oldest daughter had recently moved away from home, she came back home for dinner yesterday. I've missed her even though it's only been a few days. Ah, kids grow up so soon.

I pray you all have a blessed week!

Howdy. Tammy here. I was introduced to the Nazarene church by my friends when I was 5+ years old. Well, actually, they got me interested in God and Christianity, period. Their father was the pastor of a Nazarene church, and that's what I associate with best.

I had a very lousy mother's day, as I was in bed with hurting guts and a fever (stupid stomach flu!) I'm still trying to recover. :sigh:

I currently serve on the Administrative Board, Financial Committe, am Church Pianist, teach Adult Sunday School and am Heading the Youth Group! As you can tell We are a small church with lots of jobs and not many people who want to be involved!

Anyway I always have time for a cup of coffee and a chat!

Growing up as a kid of active UMC parents, I attended every pot luck the church ever held. When I grew up, I took a vow that I would go to Church but I wasn't going to anymore covered dish dinners.

I confess that I have back slid occasionally along the way, but pretty much try to avoid them like the plague.

So, I may hang out among you, but I am not eating the green bean casserole. Please forgive me! :sorry:

Nothing personal, BigSierra! I'm sure you are one of the good cooks carrying in a dish. We Methodists have to stand up for principles and one of mine is to avoid pot lucks!

Back when I used to attend them, I made great sport out of knowing who the good cooks were in the church and who the not so good cooks were. Good or bad cook, I always wanted to know who brought what  so I could either dig in  or steer clear of certain dishes :o

Popping in to say hi to everyone! Hope you all are having a good day! :) I just finished some mandatory First Aid training today. So if anybody gets choked, I gotcha covered! (Hopefully that won't happen!)

I'll have to second the no green beans. Sorry, bigsierra. ;) A few years ago when the President (the first Bush?) decided he wasn't going to eat broccoli anymore, I decided if the President didn't have to eat broccoli, I didn't have to eat green beans. I am not sure why I don't care for them, I just don't. Oh well. One of those weird things I guess. I also don't like milk on my cereal......

:first I am bringing some homemade banana pudding:
HUm banana pudding *girggle*

Anyway I gre up in the Naz church. I had a short time of going to a carismatic church during college. I have only been a member of the UMC for a year but I am in love. I am a member of the church board, on our praise team, I am a local layspeaker, and I have been working very closley with my pastor in planning our Church's 150th anniversey. We already had a homecomming where we celebrated our 75, 50 and 25 year members. Very exciting ^_^ the bishop over Iowa will be presiding over our service on September 19. :D :D :D .

I missed this Jenn-I'm sorry! I have taken all 4 but I had a different group each time. We didn't have to stick with the same group and it was offered at different days and times, so you just sorta picked what day and time worked best for you. I have also taken the Christian Believer study. I really, really liked that one. I think I bonded more with the group that I took that one with. The study was really intense and I think it hit closer to home with me. I am looking forward to the next in the series, I think it is a study on the life of Jesus.

That's okay! :)

Our church I guess is kind of small...so the groups stay the same throughout the studies. There's always been a Bible study on Tuesday nights (when I worked 3rd shift I was part of it) but right after I got moved to 2nd shift they started Disciple. So the Tuesday night group (it's usually about 6-10) started Disciple. Then there was a Wednesday night group the following year who started Disciple 1 while Tuesday went on to 2.

I hope I stay with the same group of people for Disciple 2...just because I'm so comfortable with them. Some of the things I share I don't like to share a lot.

We had 68 in church. 38 of them were regular folks, the other 30 were family members (children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren) that came because mom brought them. At the end of the message before communion, the Lord moved me to offer a brief simple explanation of the Gospel message and offer a call for salvation. I had four people respond to the invitation by looking up at me during prayer. The Lord is doing a work among His people, and it's exciting to be in the middle of it!
WJ:bow: praise God from whom all blessings flow. It is great to hear people responding to a call to salvation. I pray this is just the beginning for you and your church.:prayer:

:) Allye checking in with still warm from the oven pound cake, sliced and sugared fresh peaches and just whipped sweetened cream.

*allye wipes drool from keyboard- can't handle thought of yummy green bean casserole followed by above dessert* :yum:

...Brief church history. Made profession of faith at 8 years old. Grew up in a small Southern Baptist church with a legalistic minister. Switched to a very loving Presbyterian Church in America in college. Spent appx 4 years after college in 2 different cities trying to find as loving a PCA church as the college one but found instead mostly theological legalism and hadn't really even been 'reformed' even in college- just loved that church. (Will have to say for those Reformed CFers who may read this that I'm so greatful for my knowledge of scripture from my Presbyterian years. You guys go deep into the word!)

So I went out on a limb and started going to the most liberal UMC in Jackson, MS. A white church that had made a choice not to join white flight and is consequently now integrated in a sometimes dangerous neighborhood. We would occasionally hear gun shots at night services. But oh how I learned about grace there! We welcomed anyone- even stoned stragglers off the street sometimes, built habitat houses etc. I've moved and now live just outside Memphis and a month ago joined a conservative but still full of grace UMC church I've been attending for over a year now. Can't wait to get involved in missions teams. :)

*allye also decides to throw together a poppy seed chicken casserole and make 2 pitchers of iced tea- one sweet, one unsweet since her mama raised her right and you really can't take too much to a covered dish supper*

 Allye

Edited to say the church I grew up in is a now a wonderful church and my family is still very active there. They currently have a loving pastor. :)

As for the weekend--it was fairly quiet. Watched 2 hockey games, a car race and kept putting drops in my son's eyes. Something on the backyard campout with Dad did not agree with him and we were trying to clear up allergy yucks all weekend. Also got some work done on a blanket. This one is earmarked for the Children's Advocacy Center, along with a few others and some teddy bears (2 of which I still need to finish putting together--they got no arms at the moment)

My weekend was beautiful. We had great weather in slower, lower Delaware. I spent some time in my yard, mowing and weeding. I taught the adult Sunday school class, we had Bible trivia day..it was fun, even stumped the minister on a few Old Testament questions. ^_^

I'm crocheting the blanket. It is a corner start pattern and I am only on the "growing" side of the thing. Looks kinda like a shawl at the moment. I can't really sew, (only sewing I do is putting crocheted pieces together) and while I can do the knit stitches I get lost in the pattern and mess it up so bad that I rip it out and crochet something. I can crochet just about anything I can read the pattern for (and some things I've made up myself). So I'm just a "happy hooker" :D .

My pastor made a great analogy yesterday: He was talking about getting along with each other in the church and he said just like you can't pick your family, you can't pick God's roster at church. I think that also goes for Church with a capital "C". For the most part, we don't pick whose sitting beside us. Might as well learn to love them and get along best you can.

There seems to be variations, but the kind I made involved:

bread
mayonnaise
prepared mustard
slices of cooked ham
slices of cooked turkey
a slice of Swiss cheese
an egg
some milk

Spread the mayo and mustard on the bread. Stack the turkey, ham and swiss cheese in the sandwich. Dip in the egg/milk mix (both sides) and fry in the skillet (kind of like french toast). :yum:

Heh....this coming Sunday is when our group is confirmed. I've been working with them from the start and I hope I don't cry when they get confirmed!
Crying is good though! ;) It's been hard on me, even though I don't have kids, all these kids seem like my own because I had them in Sunday School when they were in the 1st and 2nd grade. Then to be apart of this decision with them, it's very......heart warming I guess is the word. We had one of them really nervous because his dad had him convinced after he was confirmed he had to stand up and give this big speech in front of the congregation about why he should be a member. We kept asking him if he had his speech ready! :D Payback for all the trouble he used to create for me in Sunday school......:P

Ack, that's been happening. I have been doing a copy before posting (Just in case)
Now that's a thought........

I'm wasting a bit of time waiting for today's laundry to be done so I can hang it up. My dryer is on the fritz (possibly for the last time, but it is 14 years old).
I only got 2 quarts of cherries off my trees this year. The kids have been picking raspberries for me. Need to get what I want for my freezer before 3 friends come and clean out what they want. Luckily I share well.
Just got a pattern off the net for a Rose Suncatcher--will be the perfect gift for my sister in-law this Christmas. Have to see if I have a 6-inch ring or if I have to buy one. I have the thread for it. My daughter would like me to make a red one for a friend of hers, too.

I've been thinking we've been packing in a lot of sweets lately. So is anyone in the mood for some chef salad? There are all kinds of salad dressings and toppings are your disposal.

Fresh raspberry pie!!! :yum: Come and get it!!

How fresh?? I still have the scratches from picking the berries. (which explains where I have been lately.)

Aside from that, I have had to put away the yarn for the summer. Just too hot and sticky to work with it or have a half a blanket on my lap. So I'm into thread work. Finished a pretty blue/green/tan doily and am now working on one in shades of purple.
Also found out that "no good deed goes unpunished". I wrote to a publisher to compliment them on a neat little scarf book they just put out and to ask if they would be doing more in the series. They sent me back a nice letter saying yes, and as a token of their appreciation they sent me a $20 book of baby patterns! Unfortunately, my niece is too big for any of the stuff, but my semi-adopted sister is expecting in August and my best friend has a nephew who is 3 months old so........ So many patterns, so little time :sigh: .

Hello All, as a pastor, the sweet little old ladies in my church don't want me to bring anything to eat, they like telling everyone they brought enough for me! So I came to sample the food.
Let me introduce myself briefly.
Born and raised UM church (actually it became UM some 4 years after I was born). Served in many, many capacities as a layperson from teenage years on. Most recently as the Disciple coordinator at a large, large church (we had around 300 in the program). Big Emmaus fan here. Worked in the Graphics and printing business for 13 years before finally answering God's call to ministry. Had to finish my undergrad, now two-thirds of the way through seminary, working as a part time local pastor for now. Married to another UM pastor for 2-1/2 years, we have a 16 month old and one on the way. Happy, tired man--that's me!
Thanks for making me feel welcome (and hungry)

Welcome herev! Glad you joined us! I like the Disciple program. It's been a great instigator in my spiritual walk. I took a class at one of the darkest times in my life and it was a literal life-saver for me. I have never been on an Emmaus Walk but I hear generally good things about them.

Amen to the Disiple blessing. It was the beginning of my answering God's call to full time ministry ministry. As to the Herev, since I'm married to a She-rev, it helps in the household where there are two Rev. Conder's.
Thanks for the invite of food, when I get time, I'll bake up some sausage and cheese muffin thingies--they take a while, so I only do it rarely!
See you gues around
