As soon as I get off this beast of a machine I'm heading to the kitchen to make a cheesecake. Not one of those quickie no-bake things either. The real kind with LOTS of cream cheese and sour cream! Wish me luck!
(If my daughter doesn't eat it all I'll bring you all some--but don't hold your breathe ^_^ )

Do you have water baptism and communion as part of your worship?
There's a discussion going on among the Salvationists in Cyber Corps about whether we should have it or not, and I wondered what happened in the Methodist church.

Do you mean if we have Baptisms do we incorporate them into the Sunday morning service? In this case no we do not at my Church. We have seperate services for our Baptisms. However we do infant dedications in our Sunday morning services. And we do Communion as part of our worship on the last Sunday of the Month. Hope this helps!

It does indeed, thank you :)
OK, one more question then, if I may.
Hypothetically, if the local Salvation Army church approached your church and suggested uniting on the one Sunday a month where you have communion, would this be viewed as a good idea or not?
It doesn't really matter, it's just that I have this poll going in Cyber Corps about baptism and communion, and the majority view seems to in favour of including it in our worship, which got me wondering about ways that this could be done.

Whew! Made it back from PA though it took 11 hours to make a 7 hour trip (traffic tie-ups and a misbehaving car). Picked up the bloodhound from the vets--along with 2 kinds of medicine and a bill for almost $700! Poor old thing (9) is anemic and has very little energy at the moment, so we are babying him. They think it was caused by fleas which were especially bad this year. Poor old guy can't handle them like he used to. Hopefully he will pull through this--I hate the thought of what my husband will be like when his dog dies.
On to the multi-day job of baking---Christmas cookies!!!!!

Hi
As you can tell, I am new and trying to get used to the place. Although I feel as though I have been all over Christendom (including briefly being Catholic-*respect*), I've returned to the UMC.
I married a PK; my father in law is a DS in the Northeast. It is interesting to see how my DH's parsonage life affects his day-to-day life now. There are lots of perspectives I don't understand or can relate to. And even though his current career is not in the church, I don't think he's ruling out going to seminary in the future. I don't know if I'm ready to be a pastor's wife!
At any rate - I am a first-time mom to my 10 month old son and stay home with him....sort of. See, I had been accepted to an MSW program in May of 2004 when I learned I was pregnant! So I started (and finished) the fall semester, then took a year off to have and care for my son. My year is coming to an end, and I will be resuming studies in January. It is a part time program so my classes are every Saturday (all day) from January until May. DH can stay home and watch the bambino while I'm in class, but my new challenge is finding time during the week to study while watching Baby. Another challenge is finding a back-up plan for child care on the occasions when DH is out on travel.
I am hoping to use my MSW degree to be a child advocate. I was a paralegal for a family law attorney (who attended my church as well) and she was a guardian ad litem. I would love to do what she did, so law school isn't out of the question....that will have to be up to God, though, because I don't know when I'd go, at this point. Diaconal ministry isn't out of the question, either. One step at a time!
One of my deciding factors to pursue an MSW was my involvement with the Kairos Prison Ministry. I LOVED working with the residents in the prison. In order to work a Kairos Prison Weekend, one must be an alumni of Walk to Emmaus, which I did in September 1999 (a month after I got married). I'm involved in the prayer ministry in my church and organized an UMCOR bake sale fundraiser this past September to raise money for Darfur victims. Folks really stepped up to the plate because, as you know, help was being mobilized for hurricane relief....and we still managed to raise about $500 for Darfur. My husband likes church politics (see, that's one of those residual parsonage lifestyle things I don't understand...I think he's crazy ;) ) so he served on the Trustees until shortly before the baby's birth.
That's all I can think to share at this point. And how "Methodist" to make this a virtual 'covered dish!' We love our potlucks, don't we. :yum:

Love it ^ funny stuff. Gotta rent that this next week.
I got really annoyed with the programme planners last year.
They put it on at ten to midnight on Christmas Eve.
Most of the people who are into this movie are of the generation that have kids.
How many parents have got time to sit and weatch a movie at that time on Christmas Eve.
For Heavens sake, it's just taken us 4 hours to get the kids to go to sleep, then we have to put in another three hours work before we can go to bed.
The last thing we have time to do is watch TV:doh:
Anyway, enough of my ranting:D :sorry:
Hope you are all ready for the big day and that it goes really well for you.

Spent part of this morning helping my husband get ready for a yearly tradition. He is a MacTools salesman (sells tools to mechanics at garages from a big truck) and for the past few years, the week before Christmas he stocks up on cookies, candy and fruit, decorates the inside of the truck, puts on a Santa hat and some Christmas music and invites his customers to his mobile Christmas party. It has become something the guys look forward to each year--esp in this day and age when everyone is out to make a buck, here's a salesman giving stuff away. Yes, in the end it may be good for business, but for this week it is just fun.
On Friday another tradition in our house arrived--CHEESE CURD!!!! My sister knows I love it and can't get it here, so she has a couple pounds shipped down every year from a place in NY. Yummy!!!

This is taken straight from the Church of Nazarene Manuel which I am a member of.
Articles of Faith
I. The Triune God
1. We believe in one eternally existent, infinite God,
Sovereign of the universe; that He only is God, creative and administrative, holy in nature, attributes, and purpose; that He, as God, is Triune in essential being, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Gen 1; Lev 19:2; Duet 6:4-5; Isaiah 5:16)
II. Jesus Christ
2. We believe in Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Triune Godhead; that He was eternally one with the Father; that He became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and was born of the Virgin Mary, so that two whole and perfect natures, that is to say the Godhead and manhood, are thus united in one Person very God and very man, the God-man.
We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, and that He truly arose from the dead and took again His body, together with all things appertaining to the perfection of man's nature, wherewith He ascended into heaven and is there engages in intercession for us.
(Matt 1:20-25; 16:15-16; Luke 1:26-35; John 1:1-18)
III. Holy Spirit
3. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Triune Godhead, that He is ever present and efficiently active in and with the Church of Christ, convincing the world of sin, regenerating those who repent and believe, sanctifying believers, and guiding into all truth as it is in Jesus.
(John 7:39; 14:15-18, 26; 16:7-15; Acts 2:33)
IV. The Holy Scriptures
4. We believe in the plenary inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, by which we understand the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, given by divine inspiration, inerrantly revealing the will of God concerning us in all things necessary to our salvation, so that whatever is not contained therein is not to be enjoined as an article of faith.
(Luke 24:44-47; John 10:35; 1 Cor 15:3-4)
V. Sin, Original and Personal
5. We believe that sin came into the world through the disobedience of our first parents, and death by sin. We believe that sin is of two kinds: original sin and depravity, and actual or personal sin.
5.1 We believe that original sin, or depravity, is that corruption of the nature of all the offspring of Adam by reason of which everyone is very far gone from original righteousness or the pure state of our first parents at the time of their creation, is averse to God, is without spiritual life, and inclined to evil, and that continually. We further believe that original sin continues to exist with the new life of the regenerate, until eradicated by the baptism with the Holy Spirit.
5.2. We believe that original sin differs from actual sin in that it constitutes an inherited propensity to acutal sin for which no one is accountable until its divinely provided remedy is neglected or rejected.
5.3. We believe that actual or personal sin is a voluntary violation of a known law of God by a morally responsible person. It is therefore not to be confused with involuntary and inescapable shortcomings, infirmities, faults, mistakes, failures, or other deviations from a standard of perfect conduct that are the residual effects of the Fall. However, such innocent effects do not include attitudes or responses contrary to the spirit of Christ, which may properly be called sins of the spirit. We believe that personal sin is primarily and essentially a violation of the law of love; and that in relation to Christ sin may be defined as unbelief.
(original sin: Gen 3; 6:5; Job 15:14; Psalm 51:5)
(personal sin: Matt 22:36-40 (with 1 John 3:4); John 8:34-36; 16:8-9)
VI. Atonement
6 We believe that Jesus Christ, by His sufferings, by the shedding of His own blood, and by His meritorious death on the Cross, made a full atonement for all human sin, and that this Atonement is the only ground of salvation, and that it is sufficient for every individual of Adam's race. The Atonement is graciously efficacious for the salvation of the irresponsible and for the children in innocency but is efficacious for the salvation for those who reach the age of responsibility only when they repent and believe.
(Isaiah 53:5-6, 11; Mark 10:45; Luke 24:46-48)
VII. Free Agency
7. We believe that the human race's creation in Godlikeness included ability to choose between right and wrong, and that thus human beings were made morally responsible; that through the fall of Adam they became depraved so that they cannot now turn and prepare themselves by their own natural strength and works to faith and calling upon God. But we also believe that the grace of God through Jesus Christ is freely bestowed upon all people, enabling all who will to turn from sin to righteousness, believe on Jesus Christ for pardon and cleansing from sin, and follow good works pleasing and acceptable in His sight.
We believe that all persons, though in the possession of the experience of regeneration and entire sanctification, may fall from grace and apostltize and, unless they repent of their sins, be hopelessly and eternally lost.
(Godlikeness and moral responsibility: Gen 1:26-27; Deut 28:1-2; Joshua 24:15; Romans 1:19-20; Galatians 6:7-8
(Natural inability: Job 14:4; Psalms 14:1-4; John 3:6a;
(Free grace and works of faith: Ezekiel 18:25-26; John 1:12-13; Acts 5:31; Romans 5:6-8)

Mostly I strongly dislike going to the grocery store, but then other times when I drag out my really nice cookbooks and I plan elaborate menus I enjoy grocery shopping - smelling and touching all the green and other colors of produce, talking to the butcher, etc. However, that's only about once a month or so, the rest of the time it's just a pain to go to the store! :)

The only thing I dislike about doing the groceries is paying the bill! I spend at least $150.00 a week at the store to feed a family of 4. Luckily, one of the local stores has started running alot of 10 for $10 specials on stuff like frozen veggies or better yet 10 for $5 on canned goods. I love to stock up the pantry and the freezer this way. I'm waiting for their chicken special to show up again. Chicken leg quarters for about $0.20 a lb.

Actually I like shopping except when I am hungry. I enjoy walking up and down isles and "people watching" as well as planning out what I am going to eat for that week. However, if I am hungry I hate shopping. Everything I look at seems good and I keep seeming to get hungier and hungrier.

Hi everyone
I haven't been in much lately due to the stuff of real life getting in the way. But I'm here now, so I'll clear away the old dishes and trash and start a fresh pot of coffee, some water for tea and lay out some fresh baked chocolate cookies.
If anyone wants me I'll be over in the comfy chair in the corner working on blanket for a young friend for Christmas. It has a buckskin head on it and lots of color changes for the mane, so I may resemble a multicolored ball of yarn at times ^_^

*Slips in with a huge batch of freshly made zuccini lasagne and freshens the water in the flower vases*
Hello everyone!! By the way, this lasagne recipe is awesome. I have never had any leftovers and even those who don't care for zucchini love it. Use thinly sliced zucc in place of the lasagne pasta noodles for a carb friendly dish :) Easy to make too, microwaveable.
