Carmel Apple tart! :yum:
I am in the mood for Mexican now. :D Here's a Taco casserole with some burritos and nachos with salsa and cheese on the side.
Boy, just the thoughts of that made me hungry! Good thing it's really close to lunch time! :)

I must say, you Methodists eat better than we do in the Lutheran forum. They keep wanting to feed me salted fish and saurkraut! :P
The caramel apple tart sounds scrumptious! :yum: And don't get me started on Mexican!! Mexican is my favorite food of all time! (Well . . . other than communion, of course, but I digress ;) ).
Can someone come and cook dinner at my house tonight? Taco casserole would just hit the spot, I think. :)

We're kicking off a 40 Days of Purpose campaign at my church and I'm small group leader :D That pretty much covers my weekends, and weedays, for the next 40 days!
And I'm doing my membership affirmation on Oct. 10 to officially become a member of my church!

Sounds cool Gwynne! And congrats about becoming a member at your church.
We talked about doing the 40 days of Purpose. We did 1 small group last year and wanted to do it with many small groups this fall, but for some reason, it was never followed through on. I guess too many other things going on. I hope it goes well for you.

We did the 40 Days of Purpose thing at our church this spring. Personally, I didn't get a whole lot out of it. It was all stuff I had known about or doing on one level or another already. And I think they did it backwards--showed the video for the coming weeks readings instead of what you had just finished reading. Would have made for better discussions and allowed questions bruoght up by the reading to be voiced.
Does that mean I'd already found my purpose? :P
*****sets down warm pumpkin pie and whipped cream :yum: *****

PS:--as for what I'm doing this weekend---I'm trying to crochet an afghan out of 2 shades of mauve, in 35 7inch squares. Personnally I think it is ugly, but it is not for me. It is a pattern I am testing for a publishing company, so I just keep telling myself "you don't have to like it, you're getting paid!" ^_^

Finally found a doc willing to do something about my back/leg problem other than dismissing it as a potassium imbalance. Turns out that sometime 4-6 years ago I ruptured a disc in my back and never knew it, and that is what is putting pressure on the nerve from time to time. So now I am on an anti-inflammatory twice a day and a muscle relaxer 1-3 times a day (as needed) and feel MUCH better!! I actually went for a 2mile+ walk yesterday without so much as a twinge. Yup, I'm a happy camper now! :D

Hi there all! This is Jennifer-- its been a while since I've been here. I've brought along an entire Thanksgiving dinner-- with all the trimmings to show my thanks (just a tad bit early). I'm in Central Florida and have a LOT to be thankful for having weathered the storms that have been tossed our way.
I'm here to catch up on the faith I've been growing as a rather newbie to the Church of the Nazarene and I must say that I really feel like I've found an prganized belief that is in line with what I've always believed-- although I was raised as a Catholic.

Ok, Ill post...my name ia Anna, but most of my friends call me Kathy (I use my middle name a lot) I was raised Methodist in NE Ohio, but left the church in 97 b/c of some persoanl issues with another member. I have just recently rejoined the church, and attend a small (78 members attending last Sunday) UMC near my home. I think all but 6 of the congregation are over the age of 60, so being 24 I feel slightly out of the loop at times, even thought the pastor is close to me in age as is his wife. I"d like to talk to some other women close to myself in age, whose kids are close to my daughters ages. I feel that I was led to start attending my church, but where I am to go here, I'm not clear.

Hey gang,
It's been a bit of a blah weekend for me. Yesterday I had an eye exam and the dilation left me functionally blind for the rest of the day. That meant no crocheting, no TV, no reading and <gasp> no computer!!!
The good news is-there is nothing wrong with the eyes other than my nearsightedness.:)
The bad news is my new glasses won't be ready for a week.:(
Oh well, I can wait. And now that I can see again I'm going back to work on the CareBear for my niece (she's 2). Enjoy the soup!

Hi all! Been awhile since I've been around much. Holidays are a hectic time of year, as well as being thrust into a leadership position at church in a bit of an unexpected way has taken up a lot of time....
So I'm dropping in with a rhubarb pie!

Why does January seem to be my busiest month?? Between getting the kids back to school, sending daughter to TCTC, redoing son's room, keeping up with son's basketball schedule, cleaning up from the holidays--I feel like I am just now catching up! And I still have to help Hubby with the inventory on the tool truck!
Wish me luck--I am starting a new crochet project. I found a very basic sweater pattern and am trying to figure out a) the sizing for my husband and b) the placement of cables up the front (he wants an Aran style sweater). I have never tried this before--should be interesting or infuriating.:P

Hi all! I grew up in the United Methodist church. In my early college years, I looked into other denominations... musically, I really love the Lutheran and Catholic churches! But I've always come back to the UMC, and have happily stayed put for the last 7 years or so.
I am currently the pianist at my church, where I also play harp, direct the handbell and flute choirs, and lead a healing music ensemble called Canticle (http://www.canticlemusic.org).
I was on this forum last year for a while, then got distracted with a bunch of stuff, then Hurricane Ivan came along (I'm in Pensacola) - things have changed a lot around here, looks great!
I brought a plate of ham and turkey sandwiches, with the crusts cut off, for the covered dish dinner! ;)

We got a tenth of an inch of ice and a few snow flakes. The kids are bummed. Guess I'll be baking a big batch of chocolate cookies to comfort them when they get home from school tomorrow (they were hoping for a day off). I'll drop off the extras here when they are ready.

You can buy a thermometer that hangs from one of the oven racks to check the temp. Once you figure out where 350 is (the most common temp used) mark it on the dial with a marker. You might want to check a few other temps on either side to give you an idea of the approximat spacing on your dial for other temps.
The thermometer usually costs about a buck.

Oh, good idea! Well, supposing I can execute this plan; I'm still having trouble adjusting the stovetop burners.
I'm really broke right now because moving temporarily (I hope!) cut off my housing funding, so I'm getting this charity food, you know, odd mixtures of food items, which can be weird eating when I could actually set my ovens and burners, and had a working microwave. :sigh:
erm...it's not that I'm ungrateful to the local charities; they're a Godsend.

Well, I didn't get any Philly Cheese steak sandwiches this weekend () but I was treated to an authentic Pennsylvannia Dutch meal. We had ham loaf and cheesy Dutch potatoes. Ham loaf is best described as ground ham and sausage mixed together and than formed in the shape of a loaf, much like meat loaf. It was ok, but the potatoes were yummy! I also had for dessert something that looked like a Swiss Miss Little Debbie cake, but the filling inside was ice-cream. It was very good as well.

Welcome Nichola! Pull up a plate and dig in!
On this cloudy, cold Friday in Tennessee I am trying hard to keep the fire going, rejoicing that my son's basketball game was cancelled(no going out in the cold tonight!) and waiting for my daughter to come home from school so I can listen to her practice her flute. Her school band is doing highlights for "the Lord of the Rings" movies in an upcoming concert. The music is a bit difficult, but it is such a joy to hear her go from a few tentative notes one day to being able to play a whole section.

Unfortunately, no break in between and I can not take any time off for the first 3 months. Kinda stinks since that will be the majority of my summer. But, I am sure I will survive! :)
Good luck with your business! I am sure the warmer weather will help boost your business too. In my area, the roofers have had more work than they can handle. Last May, we had a huge hail storm, with hail the size of tennis balls. Many roofs have been replaced and many are just now getting their's done, because roofers have been so backed up.

Hey Ya'll!
There's gonna be some massive great food (with of course tons of fellowship, prayer, and worship of God) the end of July in PA at a revival I've been helping out one of my fellow staff members with. You can check the link out in my profile to the revival...or click here... http://www.easton-revival.org
hehe....to give you a bit of a preview of the food....which will make your mouth water..... ;)
What do you do when you get a pastor to buy an old bar with a house attached....and in the bar is a small but very workable commercial kitchen? You get real deep fried chicken...that's what you do! :D
Feel free to check it out and see where I've been spending most of my free time...at my other church. :)
God Bless! :)
And keep making yummy food! :D

Food looks great all!! Mind if I join the party? I was born into the Nazarene Church and my beliefs have not changed much since then. When I was seven my Dad and stepmother started going to a penecostal church and I went there until I was a teen when I switch back over to Nazarene because I moved in with my grandparents. Since then I've found that my beliefs are much more in line with Weslian thought then Penecostal.

Your revival looks great, Angel. Fried chicken sounds good too. :yum: The schedule looks very interesting. Thanks for posting the link.

Nobody has been in here in a while, so I figured it was time to clean up again.
Since the weather here has been soooooo hot and nasty I've brought along a HUGE pitcher of lemonade and lots of ice, some sugar cookies and fruit and veggie trays to munch on.
***sets food on table, leaves and returns with a bouquet of white roses****
The roses grow in my yard--left behind by the previous owner.

We had homeade apple crisp cooked with apples picked from the North Carolina mountains at Bible study. Then we topped it off with ice cold homeade vanilla, cherry, or chocolate ice cream. I figured that I would bring some here too.

Any objections?

My bestest best friends in the universe (save for Jesus and husband, natually) live a couple thousand miles away. We've been buds since kindergarten, and we miss each other greatly. We used to live down the street from each other.
Then they moved about 14 miles away just after grade school. Then they moved two states away after high school. Then they moved back to the same state (a couple hundred miles away). I managed to drive to see them every so often - a 4 hour drive.
Then I moved from AZ to Canada and we've not seen each other in about 4 years. But we still write and call every now and then. And we look forward to a reunion once my family and I move back to AZ.
Oh yeah, and here's some vanilla ice cream! :D
