Greetings!
I just wanted to say hello. I'm glad I found this forum. I'm not Lutheran yet, but I feel like I've been for years...(hope its ok to use the Lutheran symbol). I'm just trying to break some old habits of mind and get the courage to actually convert. Studied European History in college and started worshipping in a Lutheran Church in 1989 everyday at lunch when I worked in NYC. I look forward to the sharing in this forum. Please keep me and my family in your prayers.
Peace,
Henry

WELCOME HENRY!!!
So great to have another "almost" Lutheran on board. We have another Lutheran in progress with Lux Perpetura. She's in the process of moving to Cleveland where she will join a Lutheran church. (And yes...it is most acceptable to use the icon!)
This is a FABULOUS online gathering of Lutherans. I have learned so much and my faith has been challenged and stretched since I first arrived. I even met with my pastor over an issue that challenged me here! :o But that was a good thing!
Tell us more about what part of the country you live in and what brand of Lutheranism you are looking at.
I am LCMS but from the FL-GA district. Apparently the rest of the synod thinks we are a bit flakey but that is certainly a most appropriate description of me anyway! ^_^
Loads of Lutheran Love

I'm nominally Lutheran; I probably identify most with the Missouri Synod... that's where my dad's entire side of the family has its roots. :) A bunch of Swedes on that side of the family... muahahahahah, we are the ones who have unleashed the evil of IKEA! :D
I guess I'm non-denom on the most part, though...

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
I am in THE Bronx, New York...between NYC itself and Westchester County. Most of the churches near me are ELCA but there is very nice one with the Missouri Synod a very short drive from me which I believe is associated with Concordia College...so I am weighing my options. Now if only I could stop procrastinating! (But that might not be so bad, unless of course I wait so long that I drop dead before I actually do it). I originally considered Lutheranism because the German side of my Dad's family were from northern Germany and all Lutherans. He was raised Catholic though (my grandfather married a german-catholic) as I was.
Nice to meet you all.
Peace to all,
Henry

Welcome Mate!
Great to have you with us. Sometimes we may seem divided (LCMS, WELS, ELCA) but we absolutely love each other, and are a big family.
You'll be most welcome here!

Welcome Henry!
I'm new here also, and I can assure you that you'll be assimilated quickly- these are genuinely nice and loving people. I've been a Lutheran all my life, growing up in the Central Valley of California. I'm now pursuing a degree in anthropology in Durango, CO. But I go to a non-denominational church, so I was pleased as punch to find a site with so many Lutherans on it! The people here are so great, and they have the best discussions. Happy posting!

Really? Whaddaya know! We're both in the Sierra Pacific Synod, we can talk about Bishop Mullen behind his back! :) (Just kidding)
I'm from Waterford, a small town near Modesto. And I'm home right now, it being summer break for me. Fancy meeting another Central Valley poster! Doesn't happen that often... Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Ooh, a potluck for the whole Synod? That would be some GOOD eating! :D
I know what you mean, though. Emmanuel has been trying to do more events with our conference lately- especially the youth groups. But the truth is most of us are feeling strained financially and populationally of late. Who's going to host and organize an interstate potluck?

Well, y'all are welcome to come to my Church's 90th Aniversary celebration in October!!
I know what you mean about the youth group thing! We have a lot of Lutheran Congregations in this area, and it would be awesome if they would ever get some cooperation!

Well, I'll be shivering under a pile of blankets in Colorado and trying to study, come October, but I'll pass along the invitation.

Welcome from me too! You probably won't see me around too much, but I am around. I'm too busy with work and other extra-curricular activities(such as rollerblading at the beach and sitting in hot tubs; because were there is water, there is bikinis;)). I'm part of the Lutheran Church-Canada, which is associated with the LCMS. I even graduated from a Concordia (Concordia University College of Alberta in Edmonton)! I plan to go to a seminary eventually, either in Adelaide, Australia or in St. Louis. I'm living in a tent in Kelowna, British Columbia right now.:P

HI and welcome! Like Rose said, my husband and I are going to be Lutheran converts soon. It's a long story as to how we found the Lutheran church, but we're glad that we did now. :) We're going to go LCMS since we are both rather conservative people, but we're not so conservative that we can't get along with ELCA folks like JVAC ;)
Glad you're here.

WELCOME Britt!
Glad you found us! Stick around and join the crowd. Don't let any of us scare you...while may argue from time to time...its more like brothers and sisters arguing with each other...underneath the surface we love each other like crazy and will defend each other to the hilt.
We look forward to seeing your posts.
Peace

Hiya everyone!
My husband and I might become one of yours one day... We feel very lead that way... hmmm
(I tell ya, I am really afraid of some reactions we might get from some certain people of our present church affiliation either in "real life" or on the boards... )
Please pray for my husband and I.
Dominus vobiscum,
Caroline
