View Full Version : So what is this forum for?

Having followed the process which resulted in the breaking-up of PRE (with some sadness) I've been trying to decide where I belong among it's descendants.....

I'm a member of an independant Evangelical Church so I'm definitely not Lutheran, Anglican, Methodist or Baptist - that just leaves the Reformed/Calvinists and Non-denominational. My church isn't officially Calvinist although we have an awful lot in common so that just leaves here. However I see the Lutherans, Calvinists, Baptists et al still posting away in here as well their own fora (?). So my question is - "Is this a forum for all Protestants who don't fit into the other categories or is it a forum for all Protestants to post any kind of thread in (ie debate as well as fellowship)?".

Good Day, Chris

That is a very good question, I hope we can still use this board to debate and fellowship. I attend a Baptist church, but am reformed in most of my theology. I have a love for Luther and his work.

I just posted a similar thread...I kinda liked the P/R/E better because it incompassed us as a broad range of believers -now I do not know where I fit. I am Reformed by denomination - but not Calvinistic. So...I dont have a 'home' here so to say. But I will post where I want I guess.

Good question! I go to a non-denominational church, which does not fit into any of the categories I see. It is a church similar in doctrine to Saddleback or Willow Creek. I hope to meet others that go to non-denom churches here, but I think that it will also be a gathering place for all denoms.

I think the split will leave many wondering exactly where they belong. For example we occasionally have Evangelical Anglican clergy preach in our Church but would have very little in common with Anglo-Catholics, so why have a denominational split? I certainly don't like the title "non-denominational" if this is the place where we who don't fit anywhere else have to be. It implies we are "lone rangers" who make up our theology as we go along.

Agreed. Im not in fdavor of the split either...but perhaps we should rename this forum - including non-denom's in the sub-title. But what would we call this forum.....perhaps P/R/E????

I suppose it depends on the label most of us are happiest with. I'd put my hand up for Evangelical. How would eveyone else describe themself?

I'm sure a lot of folks are in here, because this is where all the old threads are.

Evangelical.
I have mixed feelings about the split. I liked all the P/R/E folks, but the conversations (I felt) were very Lutheran-dominant (not that there's anything wrong with that ;). I am just glad they have their own thread to discuss Lutheran issues.

i LOVE the split up, becuase then when i wanna talk about predestination, i go to the reformed board and i know i aint gonna find alot of fighters trying to convince me of arminianism, or when i wanna talk about the gift of prophecy or tongues, i can go the the charismatic board and not find alot of cessationists trying to convince me, either! they are safe havens.

i think that anyone can fellowship in any of the forums, just like we have always been able to fellowship in the OBOB and TAW, but not able to cause a ruckus in each other's safe havens!!!! IS THAT RIGHT, MODS??????

That's a good point, but I'm afraid it'll just keep people separated. Some of my favorite people will be inclined to stick to their own denominational forums, and I just don't want to have to check out half a dozen different forums to see what's going on.

I don't belong anywhere now according to these forums. I am simply a Christian (non-catholic type). I cannot see any benefit it all the division and segregation. My denomination is not mentioned although even if it was I doubt I would frequent it, as I would be endorsing segregation instead of promoting fellowship.
I will either have to change my avatar to non-denominational or not-welcome.

I am a Christian, I follow Christ, not men.

I am and have been a member of several Christian Message Boards, however this is the only one that seems to encourage division and segregation of denominations. The other boards just have topics and threads which are all inclusive and there are far fewer flamings, fights and ill will than on this board.
Now if you want to pose a Christian question and get a balanced view you will need to post it all over the place.
We have gone from them and us (PRE and OBOB), to them and them and them and them and them and them and them and them and us.

I think I might change my denominational avatar to non-denominational....well at least until they make a Misfit avatar.

On reflection,I think I will stick around here with all the other "misfits" in non-denominational, we need to stick together and simply be Christians.

Bless Ya
Col :) <><

If you wanted to change the name of this forum, how about calling it 'the church hall' - ie. a place where, after 'church' all people from all denominations or no denominations can get together and chat

But this is just the problem - "non-denominational" seems to be being interpreted as "any-denominational" when I don't believe it was intended to be. The Friendship Forum is where people from any denominations can chat.
I think the complaint is that other groups have their own forums which we cannot debate in yet continue to debate here (and not only in the "old threads").

 This forum should be for those whose churches do not fit in any other categories, or those who attend non-denominational churches. I have to agree with Col and ChrisB here, if we want to congregate w/other denom's, we need a separate forum for it. Did I mention that I love my Christian brothers and sisters? :pink:

From what I can tell, none of the forums are keeping people from one denomination from participating in another denominations forum.

Participate - yes, debate - no....

Are you saying I can debate in OBOB or the Lutheran Forum because that's what's happening here? Other denoms seem to regard this as the "any-denomination" forum which is a bit annoying for us as the split seems to have driven mainly by the Lutherans and Anglicans. I don't begrudge them their own forum but fairs fair - some seem to want to have their cake and eat it - debating in their own private forums and also in "ours".

Col, since you wanted to have PRE back, tomuea suggested to you an option so you could. Then you accuse him of hijacking your forum also then bash his (and my) church in the process?

That's extremely low of you.

I think this is a bit harsh – I don’t see where anyone in this thread has attacked the Anglican Church.

The fact remains that the split was mainly instigated by Lutheran and Anglican members of PRE who wanted “a place of their own”. Fair enough but they now seem to want “our” place too!

Would I be welcome to start (or even contribute) to a thread on the position of (say) homosexual clergy in the Anglican Church? I very much doubt it, yet other denom members continue to post and start potentially controversial threads to their hearts content.
