Please, come in, pull up a seat and help yourself to a pint.

We have a place to call our own now, so let's enjoy it to the fullest.

Let us take this opportunity to fellowship with one another and discuss the beauties and the misconceptions associated with the Reformed faith. Let's not create a breeding ground for gossip or allow this room to become one that is constantly guilty of tearing down other faiths. This is not IDD, we are not here to battle others or convert others. We are here to fellowship and bask in the glory of God's sovereignty and to discuss current events and issues from a Reformed perspective. While we will disagree on some things, let's not debate. We can have "I believe you believe" conversations without feeling the need to win the other person over to our view. Hopefully, we are all close enough in doctrine that there should be no need to bicker, however, should the need arise........http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_2_25.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001) I I'm not afraid to put the smack down.

Now, pass me a cigar and a chilled mug and we'll get started.

Question:

I've never been to a PCA church.... However, it has been my experiance that most all church coffee tastes about the same. Terrible....

Has the PCA taken any steps to remedy this problem?

:) :D

Gabriel
4th May 2004, 09:48 AM
Our "Does the Coffee Really Taste Bad" committee still hasn't reported to the Session so we could decide if indeed the coffee is bad or not. However, my own independent studies and tests tell me that our coffee is pretty good. Although, I give credit to the lady who makes it, not to the PCA.

Knight
4th May 2004, 09:52 AM
Ok.

If you get that report let me know. :)

oworm

Sorry..................But as you know , your own independant study cant count. You will have to 'move' that the coffee is indeed 'pretty good' There will have to be a show of hands from the rest of the session to determine whether the coffee is infact 'pretty good'. If infact we have a majority of hands for 'pretty good' your motion will be carried.

Oh and by the way. Shouldnt we have a session meeting to discuss an interim moderator for this forum by vote?:D :P

Knight
4th May 2004, 10:02 AM
Oooooo....

Robert's Rules....

Sorry Gabe, I cannot second your motion.

Gabriel
4th May 2004, 10:09 AM
Due to the fact that none of you has actually tasted my church's coffee, you'll have to wait for the report from our "Does the Coffee Really Taste Bad" committee before I make a motion.

After all, I can't expect you to vote on that which you have no prior knowledge of.

Greetings chaps!

Our coffee is "drinkable" when you really need some coffee. For my church, I would recommend that I become the official coffee maker because in my opinion, I make a good cup of coffee. The recipe is quite simple. Pick a very dark folders or starbucks, put one scoop per 6 ounces of coffee, add sugar & flavoured coffee cream and there you have it!

we used to have a coffee break in church between the worship and the word.... it was great for knitting the body together....... anybody else ever do that???

Gabriel
4th May 2004, 07:56 PM
We do that. We have two services so we have refreshments, coffee and juice in between first service and Sunday School. I like that few minutes. It allows you to catch up with folks that usually attend the service that you don't.

Bulldog
4th May 2004, 08:05 PM
In my expirences at churches (non-denom), thye never did that. In between, they gave you a "break" to get to now new people and cath up with the ones you already knew. Most of the socailizing went on after church. There was no coffee or refreshemnts, however.

I've always taken my coffee black. Rarely, I'll put cream in it but only very rarely. Even then it has to be real cream not the powdered stuff.

Regrettably, I rarely get coffee at our church. I found out that our Sunday school class (we call them Mini-Congregations) is the only one of the four that does not provide coffee in the morning......

So, I guess it's BYOC. :)

All things in moderation. While a daily habit of cigarette smoking is sinful, IMO, because it certainly is bad for you, an occasional cigar or pipe is OK, again IMO, because it doesn't cause the damage that a constant habit does. Besides, I don't even inhale cigars. Drinking is the same approach. A drink or two is fine. It's when it becomes drunkenness or a habit that it becomes sinful.

I am careful, however, not to be a stumbling block. When my family and I are out for dinner I feel that it sends mixed signals to say grace with a beer in front of me.

One fine morning, C.H. Spurgeon alighted the carriage with some of his young students at seminary. These students were all smoking their pipes. Spurgeon addressed them saying, "Gentlemen, are you not ashamed to be smoking at this early an hour?" Red faced, the students put away their pipes. Within a few minutes, Spurgeon pulled out his own and began to enjoy a good smoke. One of the students bravely asked, "Sir, did you not just tell us not to smoke so early?" Spurgeon replies, "I said nothing of the sort. I merely asked you if you are ashamed to smoke or not. And since you put your pipes away, I assumed you were ashamed."

Yes, moderation is the key. The Lord has saved me from the sin of habitual computer game playing. After months of abstenance, I have began to play an occasional game, with the Lord's help. God is all powerful, and he can deliver us from our habits and sins if we truly want him to.

I am afraid I have never heard the phrase "strain the remains for the fingerprints." What does it mean?
It's from an old Dirty Harry movie. Clint Eastwood has just broken out a .44 Automag (a seriously overrated gun and hard to manage IMO - it is a gas ejection system and I believe REQUIRES handloading) and is practicing on a target. A sinister looking black fellow drives up and gets out with an assault shotgun (we find out later it is loaded with .22 pellets) and starts to walk up behind him. He takes aim, and rips the target to shreds (evidently he is a friend and not out to get Harry, which was uncertain when he walked up). Harry makes some kind of comment on the target to which the fellow replies: "You'll have to strain the remains for the fingerprints."

Now, put that image into my post and you will get my intent.

How about some fresh Starbucks House Blend beans on a fine espresso grind. Use some cold bottled spring water rather than that stuff from the tap. Chlorine can ruin the taste of coffee.

Coffee's on, the Griddle is hot! We are open for breakfast!

Thought of the day:

Ro 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
Ro 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Ro 8:3 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,

Ro 8:4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.

I would like to introduce myeself. I am an Episcopalian of Reformed persuasion, like J I Packer. I love the liturgy of the Episcopal chirch and the fact that we have weekly Communion. I believe in the Presence of Christ in the Lord's Supper, but do not try to define what and how. I accept the 39 Articles of Religion, which are very Calvinistic in their theology. I was at one time Presbyterian, but came to see the need for Bishops (episcopus, found in Scripture) and saw that the office of Bishop goes back to the very earliest days of the church. I do not intend to debate any of this, just want you to know my views. I have grown very weary of debating other Christians. My dad is a dispensationalst, but I no longer debate him on the issue. :priest:

Gabriel
5th July 2004, 07:43 AM
Welcome. I might add to the above, the role of Elder in the Presbyterian church is the same as Bishop.

cajunhillbilly
5th July 2004, 11:16 AM
Actually, the Episcopal church sees the office of presbyter and episcopus to be distinct. The presbyter oversees the local congregation. The episcopos oversees several local churches in the same area. But I do not want to debate the issue. I don't think it is important enough to cause division.

Gabriel
5th July 2004, 01:50 PM
Sounds like the way we do it. Although, I'm not familiar with your government. Our Elders serve a particular church while a local presbytery serves a geographical group of particular churches.

Oh, I wasn't debating. I was discussing it out of curiousity and to make conversation, not to convince you of anything. :)

cajunhillbilly
6th July 2004, 06:30 AM
Our bishops are like a pastor for all the pastors. Hopefully he is a spiritually mature individual who oversees the work of other pastors. The presbytery is a governing body of elders, if I understand it correctly. The bishop does have a group (not familiar with what it is called) that helps with the work of overseeing the churchs in his diocese (geographical group of many churches) but he carries the responsibility of many churches on his shoulders. It would seem to be a very demanding calling. He is not only the pastor of the main church in the diocese, but is also expected to visit every church in the diocese on a regular basis. Plus all the adminstrative duties and so on. We pray for our own pastor/elder and the bishop regularly. I thank God that the bishop in the Dallas diocese is a conservative evangelical who is leading the resistance to all the liberalizing efforts of the American church. :priest:

Please pray for me and my wife. We are having a tough time financially. My wife's stepmother died 6 years ago and left her a trust fund that gave us $300/month. That money really helped us out each month. Well the last check was sent to us at the end of May. Since then we are having a real struggle financially. My wife is disabled and not able to work. We proably spend over $200 on copays for prescriptions each month alone. We have cut back on food, eating a lot of mac and cheese instead of steak or any expensive foods. I am putting in as much overtime as they will let me at work, but we do not have as much OT as we used to. I am looking for a parttime job to supplement my fulltime job, but have found nothing so far. I am so afraid that one day we will have to choose between food and medicines. Please pray  that God will supply our financial needs and lead me to a better financial situation.
Thanks for your prayers and any help that anyone can give us. God bless.

It is just a little after 7 AM here on the East coast. Time for breakfast.

Blueberry Pancakes with blueberry syrup anyone?

http://www.blueberrybliss.com/Images/syrup_served.jpg

Or just blueberry jam/jelly on blueberry muffins?

http://www.blueberrybliss.com/Images/jam_served.jpg

Or try a french pancake called a crepe?
There is a large French community in Maine.
Crepes are very thin. Then you can roll jams and jellies in them.
And top them off with syrup and/or confectioner's sugar.

Smoke away, It's legal to have Cuban cigars in the USA, as long as you bring them back from a legal trip to the Republica Cubana! Legal trips aren't that hard, almost anyone can qualify to be exempt from licensure, if you're determened to go, and can go when there is an international conference in Cuba...

You just CANNOT, however, bring back Cubans to sell, or even to give away... and you are limited to something like 20 cigars, I think...

Good morning, Friend.
I shut off the options to NOT get messages everytime someone "effects" my pet.
So in case you ever PLAY with him ;) :D I will say thanks now in advance.

I have to log off temporarily to get ready for work.

Serious just for a moment; Didn't know where else to post safely so I will vent here.
Gees, I want to vomit. I got DirectTV and just found out I am supporting BYU and LDS by having it. I am pretty sure they get a cut from DirectTV just like the other horrible stations. Wish I could have gotten Biography, Sci-Fi, and a couple of others some other way. Wouldn't it be nice to have a Christian Dish system that got just appropriate channels.

See what happens? Now he's all hopped up on sugar and ranting!

Seriously, I try to be very careful about where my money goes. Bottom line, every time you spend money you somehow support something you don't want to. It's terrible. I did find a nice Republican ketchup company, though if you're interested. http://www.wketchup.com/
