So. . .what have we all been eating lately? Since this thread's been "dead" for a while, I don't know what anyone's been chowing down on lately!
Sorry to disappoint, but I had to eat mashed sweet potato stuff on Saturday night and. . .let's just say that I do NOT like that stuff! We were over someone's house eating dinner (the same people who served chicken liver pate) and my mom served me WAY too much!

We took a vacation to New Mexico last month and I'm stuck on Mexican food. We ate some AWESOME stuff out there! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE green chiles. My souveniers = 3 cookbooks. If you are ever in Albuquerque, here are some GREAT restaurants:

I had some gross college cafeteria chicken and some okay college cafeteria Freschetta pizza (a slice about as thin as a pencil).
And then some gross cake.
And then a fudge ripple (apparently, that's a flavor all by itself) ice cream cone! I was clever and put strawberries'n'cream at the bottom, so after all the fudgieness, it's like, "Whoa, surprise! Strawberries to finish it off!" It was delicious. Ice cream usually is.

Workplace standard meal: 1 ramen noodle packet, 2 cups hot water from the cooler or tap water nuked. Add 1 extra bouillon cube (or salt if out of bouillon), when noodles soften and bouillon dissolves, add 1 can of tuna incl the water, some mayonaise, creamy dressiong or whatever I can grab off a counter, maybe 1 packet of ketchup, or just some pepper.
Put bowl on stacks of paper so it is about 2 inches from mouth.
Consume rapidly.
Wipe mouth, bowl and spoon.
"Next in line, please"
Total time ~8 minutes.
Snack: bite through an orange, swallow peel and all for full zest and fiber.

Breakfast/Lunch?Dinner today (one meal today). Found a half eaten supermarket rotissery chicken. Two cups water (lid on, keep it efficient), a bouillon cube, some salt and dried basil and the chicken remnants. When boiling, add some dried pasta some pieces of suspicious looking old cheese, and wait 5 min. Turn off heat, add spagetti sauce, fozen peas (to cool it down rapidly) and some wine (happy juice). Eat out of bowl while watching the news. Scrape bottom of bowl to be sure you get all the odd looking cheese into the stomach. Offer my daughter to make her some, in the same bowl, before washing it, to kkep things efficient.
Daughter disgustingly turns it down with a lecture about how I'm going to die if I keep eating stuff like the cheese she had thrown into the garbage can. Efficiency served. Child entertained while I put away pot and spoon. Wife not home, further bonding as she agrees to keep the fact I'm pulling things out of the garbage again from her mother. All hush-hush, wife happy not to have to cook and sees a clean kitchen.

Cubanito,
You are one of my heroes. I have LITTLE problem with the Calvarminian thing, but I think I understand where you're coming from in that. But this clinches the deal. What a cast iron stomach. I stand in awe.
B
Cast iron stomachs are built when an 8 year old is fed at a Govt soup kitchen once daily, plus what he can scrounge or steal in the streets of Spain circa 1965. They are then conditioned in NYC, circa 1966 (before the great society) by a similar process, involving also a breakin into a 1950's bomb shelter and the bonanza of large barrels of 10yo peanut butter and crackers. However, I must say that in some 3rd world countries those items would be luxuries.
As for today, it was royalty time. My parents took my sister, I and the 20 person entourage to a fancy steak house. Had my onion soup stolen by my daughter, but my sister handed me her salad instead. I then added a chunk of rare tuna, plus leftover meat from my mother, my 8yo nephew, 15yo daughter, and a tiny piece of nondescript from my wife's appetizer that I denied taking (oh the shame of it). After that was leftover spittle/brownie from the 4yo and some hidden cheesecake off my unsuspecting daughter. I'm very good at sneaking food past people's noses, resulting in my obesity (100lb over the mark).
So add glutony and lying to your hero worship.
Only one Guy was ever perfect, and look how badly it went for Him!

Most men, when my wife met me I had not showered in 2 weeks (too busy studying). The fact that my mother began to argue with me about how violent and nasty I was, punching holes into the walls of my room was not to her liking either. When I settled the argument with my mother by cracking an oak panel laid on the wal with my fist, my wife begged her dad to take her home, away from the madman. 5 months later we were married, 9 months later our first child. 22 years later Beauty and the Beast seem content, I'm told by our 4 kids, as the happiest couple they know. I still sing her our song, "You maybe right, I may be crazy. But I think it's a luuuunatic you're looking for."
But back to food. Today's single meal: boiling water with bouillon, spagetti and dried basil. Add some moros (a kind of black bean and rice we Cubans make). The moros were dry because it was somebody's leftover I found in the family room, but the boiling water made short course of that. Then turn off the heat, add frozen shredded garlic, carrots peas and 1/2 cup of wine plus the half of the tomato that had not yet rotted, mashed up. Some frozen shredded cheese and a bit of mayonaise and ketchup someone had left on a plate. Then I find this tuna salad my daughter had left and stir that in too.
I ate this slowly, watching the History channel replay for the gazillionth time, how Hittler was defeated.
And some say there's no real differrence among the genders...

I made cajun kebabs yesterday for the grill.
What you need:
skewers
shrimp
andoille sausage
red onion
red and green bell peppers
slide on skewer (I put two shrimp and two sausage on each skewer)
brush with olive oil then sprinkle with cajun seasoning. Grill 3-5 min each side.
Serve with rice and a cold adult brew (of course, my kids had sweet tea!).
It freezes well too, make up enough for another day, easy meal.

Cajun shrimp kaboom, sounds good.
At my house we've been feeding the kids alcohol since about 1yo. Now that my 2 oldest are "of age" they never get drunk (1 time my son at afamily affair only). Growing up and now they find getting drunk very stupid, including all the sneaking around to get some "adult beverages" when they know at home we offer them even 90 proof stuff.
Up until recently most pediatric medicines contained alcohol, some to 20% (40 proof). Md's still routinely dispense liquid opium to colicky babies (though I shied away from it's use on my kids).
Unfortunately the addictive behaviour of a few ruin so much for the rest of us.
Today my wife cooked! I got pan seared salmon and spagetti with putanesca sauce. Cheap red wine in the sauce, and extra frozen garlic. As always for me, water to dr4ink. I love tap water. Cold, warm, in large amounts. Often I just cup my hand to the faucet and drink. The bottled stuff is far worse for you. It has benzene and no fluoride.
I heard that the first plain bottled water to go mass market in the US, Evian, is Naive spelled backwards because tow business men made a bet if the US public was naive enough to spend money for bottled water when the tap stuf is so good in the US.

They obviously never tasted Aberdeen tap water, where the chlorine content is so high that nobody wants to drink it. Or, the water at my church in Joppa. . .currently, it reeks of rotten eggs (sulfur content). Before this problem, it was turning the toilet water orange (somebody was baptized in water that was pumpkin orange while we had this iron problem) and rusting everything. . .but they told us the water was safe to drink. My thoughts? A. It tasted like you were drinking an iron bar. B. If it rusted the toilets and turned the water orange, what on earth would it do to my stomach?!?

I guess it depends on where you live as to the quality of US water. In our town, our water tastes fine so tap water is what we drink. When I lived in Florida, I always drank bottled water. You could smell the tap water as soon as you turned the faucet on and it wasn't pleasant. Also, the amount of "particulate matter" that would settle in the bottom of your glass was, well, just gross. Erin, I grew up in PG County and we always drank the tap water there. Of course, that was a long, long time ago and I don't think they even sold bottled water back in those days.

Well I must say I got in some good reading while I was separated from CF due to computer difficulties!
Presently I am getting into "Precious Remedies against Satan's Devices" by Thomas Brooks, first published in 1652.
Early in the book is this point: It is our wisest and our safest course to stand at the farthest distance from sin; not to go near the house of the harlot, but to fly from all appearance of evil(Prov5:8 1Thes5:22) The best course to prevent falling into the pit is to keep at the greatest distance; he that will be so bold as to attempt to dance upon the brink of the pit, may find by woeful experience that it is a righteous thing with God that he should fall into the pit. Joseph keeps at a distance from sin and from playing with Satan's golden baits and stands. David draws near, and plays with the bait, and falls, and swallows bait and hook with a witness. David comes near the snare, and is taken by it, to the breaking of his bones, the wounding of his conscience, and the loss of his God.
Great little excerpt from a truly great book! I am reminded of those who would see the current objectionable movie, thinking it would be of help to know such info but remain unaware of the damage it could do to their intimacy with Christ!
I'm alternating this read with "Communion with God", by John Owen, an abridgement by Dr. RJK Law and claimed to be one of the greatest christian classics of all time. Written at a time when the Trinity was under attack and the Christian faith reduced either to rationalism on the one hand or mysticism on the other. His exposition shows that nothing is more vital to spiritual well-being than a practical knowledge of what this doctrine means.(taken from back cover)
Excerpt: Faith, love, trust, joy and obedience are the saints' responses to the Father's loving acts shown to them. The Father testifies to and bears witness of his Son(1John5:9) In his bearing witness, the Father is to be believed and trusted. When the Father testifies to his Son his testimony is to be received by faith. 'He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself'(1John 5:10) To believe on the Son of God is to receive the Lord Christ as the Son, the Son given to us to fulfil in us the purposes of the Father's love. And we receive the Lord Christ as the Son given to us on the truthfulness of the Father's witness. So when we receive this testimony, we put our faith specially in the Father.
....God is not to be thought of as any one person, but as the whole deity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So the triune God is the chief object of faith. If our faith was not there directed to the Father, the Son could not add,'Believe also in me'.
Also explains our behavior towards the Holy Spirit and how to fellowship with Him.
Great authors, great books, too little time!
Now, what's for lunch?

It's a big picnic weekend here in the states - what's everyone doing food wise?
We'll have a cookout Sunday - probably chicken and sausage (Keilbasa) on the grill, with some grilled veggies, hard rolls and a salad or two. Ice cream after of course.
Then on Monday we'll go out to an Italian restaurant to celebrate my hubby's birthday (which was yesterday, but Monday is the first evening everyone in the family's available).

Picnic wise? We went boating, headed over to some islands that we know of, tossed the anchor, and enjoyed some incredible potato salad, fried chicken, and orange slices. Then, we went swimming in the river.
Never, ever, ever, ever not put enough sun block on...always smather every piece of skin that could possibly burn. By the end of the day, my mom called me a lobster because I was RED red. My legs and face burned the most. . .I was a bundle of pain. But, overall the day was fun!

I am going to make a 7-layer salad and baked beans for dinner. Not sure what kind of meat I will fix to go with it. Our weatherman is calling for storms this afternoon so it will probably be something I can fix inside vs. the grill (which I prefer). I bought a huge watermelon yesterday at Super Target. I have been wanting one in the worst way lately. It is good but not like the ones you get at the Farmer's Market. Can't wait for them to start rolling in.

Yesterday I planted trout in waters around Chester, CA (Feather River and some minor creeks). The best part was that I got to stop by my favorite bakery in the world!! Cedar Chalet is the oldest continually operating bakery in Plumas County...since around 1859 or so (IIRC). They've got an incredible pastry I'd never heard of before finding this place...sticky buns!! :yum: Kinda like a cinnamon roll with caramel glaze and pecans on top. Oohhhhhhh! I got one of those and an apple turnover. They went really well with the cinnamon-hazelnut coffee I brought from home!! Hi there friends , and here is a spicy starter , because Indian Curry has become the number one takeaway in the UK we have been blessed with some of the best curry houses in the world , a fav American band of mine make it there buisness that when they arrive in the UK the first thing they do is go out for a curry :D
http://www.tipustiger.com/images/bipin-food-platter.jpg
I used to be hesitant about curry as I am a careful eater , not one to try different food , then someone told me that I had it all wrong about curries and that I should expect to find many curries that are mild , they are!
The wonderful aroma , and colour of the food is attractive , and the service is second to none.
This food is a great way to fellowship ....... try a few popodoms dipped in different sauces , with an onion bargy , a small bowl (sp) of bombay potatoe and a few pieces of chicken or pork in a light crispy spicy coating .
Then try some nan bread , and a bowl of pita rice with your main curry , start with a Chicken Korma , or a chicken Tikka .... enjoy :yum:

About ten years ago I discovered cream cheese-and-salsa dip with tortilla chips. The last few years we've been using low fat cream cheese. I guess it's a little better for you, and still tastes fine in the salsa dip.
Last week I made the mistake of picking up fat free cream cheese instead of low fat. Not even the salsa could save that stuff.

try it with sweet chilli sauce instead of the salsa sometime - it's a nice change.
I like some Indian, but not as much as Thai food. Butter Chicken is my favourite Indian dish. Massaman Curry is my favourite Thai - and Green Curry Chicken for some spice. Or Penang Chicken for that matter.

I love to experiment with new recipes! Soon I'm going to try a cornbread recipe that doesn't call for any wheat flour, which I've not done before. I'm doing it because we're having a friend over who is on a no-wheat diet. He's pretty excited about the idea and told my husband that, if he likes it, he'll have to beg me for the recipe. :-D Has anyone here made cornbread without wheat flour before?
