No, most of my church is comprised of Calvinists. However, I am one of two Calvinistic teenagers at my church (and we have teenagers by the dozen). Consequently, I am one of two teenage members of the church. However, it seems that there is a barrier between some of the older people and myself. They don't talk to me the way that they speak to the other adults. It isn't because I am immature (anyone will tell you that everyone always believes that I am twenty-five. they are amazed to find out my age), but rather because I am still a teenager, thus a child in their eyes. At least, that is the way that it seems to me. Don't get me wrong, I love the people in my church and they love me. But sometimes I just long for a good discussion without age "discrimination".

John Traske (c.1585-1636) also made claims to being a prophet - in his case a new Elijah. (Elijah was an especially popular choice because The Book of Malachi contained a promise to send Elijah to warn of the world's end]. Traske also believed that he could perform miraculous cures. For his view (later recanted) that Christians were still bound by the Judicial Law including its dietary laws (no black-pudding (http://history.wisc.edu/sommerville/367/poeticlev.htm#black-pudding)), in 1618 he was whipped and the letter J burnt on his forehead.

What is black pudding?

Black pudding is boiled pig's blood in a length of intestine. In the UK our puddings are usually bound with cereal with suet or cubes of fat added. European puddings are lighter because they are often made with cream instead of cereals.

Black pudding is especially popular in Northern England, Scotland and Ireland. The heartland for black puddings must be Lancashire. The World Black Pudding throwing Competition (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/3146468.stm%20) takes place every year in Bury, the object is to throw puddings at a row of Yorkshire Puddings on a wall and knock off as many as possible!

A Black Pudding Fair is also held each year in Mortagne au Perche in Normandy, France and over 5 km of pudding are consumed!

Black pudding is growing in popularity and is appearing on a number of restaurant menus. It combines very well with pork, lamb, fish (scallops, oysters, squid, muscles) and fruit (apples, pears, grapes, rhubarb). Lishmans of Ilkley made a superb ‘restaurant’ pudding which contains fruit. Our recipe section (http://www.sausagelinks.co.uk/recipe_category.asp) contains several recipes and more will be added on a regular basis.

Keep an eye out for pork and black pudding sausages such as those made by Lishmans of Ilkley (http://www.sausagelinks.co.uk/producer_detail.asp?id=73) and Elite Meat of Harrogate (http://www.sausagelinks.co.uk/producer_detail.asp?id=143).

Different countries, same idea

Most black pudding recipes derive from the same need to make use of everything when a pig is butchered.

They follow the same basic recipe and use similar flavourings such as onions, mace and black pepper. The main versions and the key ingredients are summarised below.

Black pudding - UK - pigs blood, pork fat and cereal (oatmeal and or barley)
Drisheen - Ireland - as above but with lamb’s blood
Boudin noir - France - pigs blood, pork fat, breadcrumbs, brandy or calvados and cream
Morcilla - Spain - pigs blood, pork fat, paprika, cooked long grain rice, sherry and sometimes raisins

Black pudding, drisheen (http://www.local.ie/content/50688.shtml/arts_and_culture/folklore/customs) , boudin noir, morcilla, blutwurst….most sausage eating countries have a speciality sausage based on pigs blood.

Black pudding is growing in popularity and we are lucky to have some of the finest producers in Europe.

WHAT! PIGS BLOOD – NO WAY?

Why do we happily munch flesh and muscle (and a lot worse if you eat cheap sausages) but find the idea of eating blood from the same animal so frightening? As you are reading this page you have probably got over this irrational fear, if not read on and you might be tempted to try one of the greatest treats in the sausage world! :D  :D

I am not - rather I'd prefer this:

Dan 1:12 "Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. Dan 1:13 Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king's food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see." Dan 1:14 So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days. Dan 1:15 At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king's food. Dan 1:16 So the steward took away their food and the wine they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.

I had to reject the first pizza last night - it came with mushroom and who knows what else.

It was suppose to be a simple pepperoni pizza.

I felt a little bad because it was snowing but it was their fault.
I had even warned them about making sure they got the order right.
Last time that had fogotten to bring my calzone.

The poor delivery guy he knows I will look at my order before paying because it is wrong more often than not.
I think he is getting frustrated with the people giving him the orders too.

I know it is partially his fault.
I was being generous.

I think he may just check himself next time.
He knows I demand what I order.

If they forget the soda he runs to the corner store.
You gotta have soda with pizza.

If they mess up my order I have to assume they are messing up everyone elses.
But suspect some people do not notice till after guy leaves.
And may not bother to call and demand actual order or even complain.

As an MD, for most of us salt is not at all bad. Short of heart failure, only 1/5th of the US population has salt-sensitive hypertension, and most are of African descent. So pour on the salt (and if you're a girlie-girl that bloats, take a diuretic).

Y'all are cofee wimps. My wife downs cupfuls of expresso daily (we call it Cuban cofee). Straight up, even at bedtime, no doughnut. Of course she also has to take the maximum dose of atenolol for the heart palpitations (100mg BID), Me I only drink it to stay awake about once a month, cause I hate the taste of cofee in any form.

One time before a midterm I drank two full cups of heavily sugared expresso, and topped it off with a peanut butter sandwich. When I got to the test, the letters on the paper began to move, and I began to shake. The professor noticed, told me to go home, and let me retake the midterm a week later.

I don't know if it was the quantity, or the way I made it. Basically I boiled a bunch of Cuban coffee grounds and strained it through an old sock. Anyway, since I hardly ever drink cofee, I learned that too much caffeine could render me illiterate.

I'm the opposite. Caffeine makes me literate. And coherent. Not having a coffee maker in my dorm, I usually boil my coffee in a pan, and let the grounds settle. Maybe the old sock has something to do with it.

Coincidence, it was a physical chemistry class, and that professor wasn't nice at all most of the time. I learned that about a year later he commited suicide. My guess is that one act of kindness caused such remorse he couldn't live with himself. Well, I would have wished him Christ and salvation. The old man was decent enough to me at a moment where I was unhinged.

Use an old white gym sock to strain the grounds, You can reuse the same sock, and it rolls up nice against the outside of a tall water glass. Or a cheese cloth if you're squeamish.

As for disgusting, in this metrosexual men's world, you may find some women are actually attracted to a disgusting man (within reason). They won't admit it, and theyll holler at you all they, but they hang around. My wife is ceases not from nagging me about my hygene, lack of style sense and so on. Yet she hangs around. Gross! Coffee in a pan with grounds on the bottom?!? My stomach is churning at the very thought!;) Besides, the caffeine helps wake me up and the sugar/fluffy stuff gives me energy (believe me, when I "overdose" I become a completely different person!). That's the only way to drink coffee! I mean, when I drink regular coffee (like at home, Wawa, or Starbucks) I just use sugar and cream. But, this will gross you out! My grandmother adds onion, and something else to her sauerkraut (I don't know what). Lately my mom has been using her recipe, and I must say that it has been turning out very nicely. It was a hit at Thanksgiving, when even the family members who don't much care for sauerkraut were complimenting her on it.

Never used them. I've always used Irish Spring or Zest.

No campfire? You haven't been camping. Lemme guess, you don't sleep in tents, or on the ground. Why don't you bring the TV and video games with you while you're at it?

My hair looks just fine. It ain't all pretty and woman-like, but it's clean and it does its job.

Okay, mad Italian woman on the loose! There is nothing that I despise more (just kidding, but half-serious!) than people who claim that they are "camping" but use an air-conditioned camper/RV with an electric stove. Of course we, because we do "Real" camping, have a campfire and we DO sleep in tents, on the ground, and, when location dictates, we use the old-fashioned outhouses and bath in the lakes. How insulting that you think that we'd actually bring a TV! :D

Oh, and about the soaps, you are even more clueless than I thought. ^_^ I was teasing you because, traditionally, Dove and Ivory are women's soaps. :P

Now I realize that this will be giving you bait, but I'll say this anyway. That is one reason why I hate big dogs. . .they always stink! Gross. There are few smells on earth that reek as much as a smelly, dirty dog. Glad to see that you're at least a semi-civilized camper--soap is the way to go!:D Cleanliness is next to Godliness, they say!^_^

FYI most dermatologists condemn deodorant bars or Ivory, whereas Dove is considered hypoallergenic and among the best bars out there for the skin.

Now a question, just what job does your hair do? Distinguish you as a mammal? Mine is just there for my wife to fuss over, if it were up to me I'd buzz it every month or so.

BTW drinking shampoo and eating soap is not customary. This is a reformed TABLE, not the "frozen poweder room". I'm within an inch of reporting y'all from straying from the topic at hand: FOOD!

Don't worry... I won't make any quips about little dog-like creatures that look like they could be put to better use buffing trucks. But I will say that, even if they stink, a real dog is the only way to go. And I've smelled some pretty terrible things, so I'm not so sure dogs are that bad. Ever been to a sugar factory? Smells like hot garbage. Makes you never want to eat that stuff again.

Tea is something I enjoy a lot, but I'm getting tired of the bags. I guess once you have some real tea, you don't really want to go back. And, as you might have guessed, I like my tea black. But a good green tea is nice on occasion.

I studied for final exams on my birthday. Maybe that's not as exciting as a tea party, but I don't think I could handle all that fun.

I don't know which fork to eat with, but I at least try to be polite. One of the things I find amazing are the dirty looks I get when I hold the door for a lady. Especially on campus, she acts like I'm patting her on the head and handing her a dog biscuit or something. And if I call someone "sir" or "ma'am," people think I'm being arrogant.  Now, I suppose I don't really know too much about etiquette. It's not something I've really been exposed to much. But I thought these were good things.

Well done! What you have stated is more important that which fork to use. Personally, I have been taught that if a young man offers you his chair when there are none others available, whether you want it or not you should take it and thus encourage him and others to continue being polite. I like it when boys hold the door for me because it allows them to show their masculinity by helping me and it lets me show my femininity by letting myself be helped. Whatever happened to the women and children first cry of old? Too many guys just let the door slam in peoples faces. . .

I'll be nice this time and refrain from commenting on your choice of delicassy. I've never tried it, so I'll be nice about it.

I tried chicken liver pate the other night. I will never again repeat the experience!

Whole Hog Day at my Immanuel Church (PCA) went well yesterday. My friend Camilo roasted the pig, and I supplied the plantains: as soup and fried(ripe and green). Plantain, Yucca and sweet potato chips were also provided. Rice and black beans by Mrs Prinz, and various games for the kids toped off an excellent fellowship.

Next year, God willing, I want to bring fufu (boiled mash semi-ripe plantain with various spices) and maybe "platanos borrachos" (oven roasted extra-ripe plantains with rum).

You're all invited if you're near the Miami area...

Yeah, my fruit snacks or granola bar plus a diet soda, tea, or water does me just fine. When I first started classes last fall, I lost over ten pounds from the "student's diet." Once Christmas break started though, and I was back to three meals a day, I gained a few pounds back.

Hot dogs?!? You insult my cooking by insinuating that I would add hot dogs to my pasta to make it special?!? I haven't had that meal since I was in grade school.

Actually, various extra cheeses, sauces, and cream (aka half and half  ) and the occasional special spice can make Kraft (aka plastic food) go from dead to delicious! And I don't eat Kraft that often. I make lots of other gourmet food that make my parents groan and my siblings lick their lips. Yeah, well... it's why they call it "spec... .." um... "uncommon" ice cream. Cookie dough you find everywhere and in varying qualities. Mint chocolate chip, as well. Philadelphia Eagles Touchdown? Probably just around here (if you're listening, Erin, I've answered one of your questions). Though for regular flavors, I must say I've found Turkey Hill (http://www.turkeyhill.com/) to be some of the finest "cheap" ice cream I've tasted (a better answer). Oh, apparently, the Eagles ice cream is carried by Turkey Hill. Huh, imagine that.

Haha, I come across as all proud of Lancastrian heritage, and I've not been there more than 8 years. I've had to adjust to it, and while most people my age seem to hate it, I really like it. Not as far as turning Amish, though. We let them be.

We're boycotting Breyers. Their butter pecan tastes like dog snot.

I've never tasted dog snot, nor do I intend to, but if it taste like Breyers butter pecan, then it can't be all that bad.

Can't you just see an Amish Neal driving around in his buggy, flicking his horse with the whip as he eats his cookie dough ice cream?
----------

Actually... actually, no, I cannot. Though you'd scarce believe it, but at the mall a while ago, my brother saw a Chinese Amishman. With a little pointy beard. It was... quite something to see, I hear.

You know what's ironic? A Google image search for "Amish" comes up with over a hundred thousand hits.

Funny stuff! That's one I haven't heard before! I was only kidding. . .personally, I found the picture of someone beating a horse and eating ice cream pretty funny. . .add the hat. . .:D

I don't take the Amish lightly. We went to the Nelson-Kennedy Ledges (http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/nelsonk.htm) once, and my brother and I were trying to find our way up the Devil's Icebox, when suddenly, here comes this group of Amish kids. This girl was laughing at us, and went down and back up as though she were just climbing the stairs. In a dress! Made us look bad. I'll be emotionally scarred for the rest of my life.

A Calvinist on the DEVIL'S ICEBOX?!? My, my, my. ;)

As for Breyer's and dog snot, I know nothing. But, I will say that butter pecan with stale nuts is gross.

We're a weird bunch, aren't we? What other group of people would discuss lattes, dog snot, and Amish goatees in the same thread? :D

Sounds like a typical dinner conversation at our house. What can I say, we're crazy Puerto Ricans. (Our mother, who is Czech, blames dad for the way we turned out). What else would you expect from a family who, half the time, eats meals over the kitchen sink?

Meals over the kitchen sink?!? You would be banned from an Italian household! But I guess it figures. . .looking down the drain you see stuff that looks like dog snot. . .so you apply it to ice cream.

Well, all the food that you dribble while you eat sounds dirty to me! Besides, our sink is clean, but we have a garbage disposal. . .don't put your hand down there!

Ouch! Remind me never to insult you. I don't dribble food! That would be a waste, and wasting food is a cardinal sin, according to my dad.

Garbage disposals? That's one of those advanced technologies that I don't understand. Like cell phones. To me, a garbage disposal is a trash can.

Oh, so you're learning the hard way, are you? I've had lots of practice in glorious comebacks! Let me tell you what a very wise person once said, "Never argue with a woman. . .she'll always win!" ;) (especially the Italian women cause we're so competitive :D ) All in good fun.

Yes it would be wasting food, but you must be some kind of superman if you've never dribbled food. Of course, I never have because I'm perfect :P , but most people occasionally let something fall from their mouths! Believe me, I recently ate dinner with some young people and somehow had to sit next to this young man who was completely devoid of any kind of manners. I had to try not to lose my food. . .it was so gross. No cutting the meat. . .he ripped it with his hands and mouth, crammed rolls into his mouth, and dribbled as well. My usually strong stomach was churning as I tried not to gag.

You've obviously never met a Hispanic woman. :P

And I'm the perfect gentleman. So there!

Actually, you're reminding me of Chaucer's Prioresse:

At mete wel ytaught was she withalle:
She leet no morsel from hir lippes falle,
Ne wette hir fingres in hir sauce deepe;
Wel coude she carye a morsel, and wel keepe
That no drope ne fille upon hir brest.
In curteisye was set ful muchel hir lest.
Hir over-lippe wiped she so clene
That in hir coppe ther was no ferthing seene
Of grece, whan she dronken hadde hir draughte;
Ful semely after hir mete she raughte.

I am often disturbed by the eating habits of many college students. You couldn't convince me that these are the elites of society. And the vast amounts of food they throw away... that really makes me sick.

Ooh, getting defensive are we, Mr. Perfect? :P Do you have younger sisters?

Actually, one of my good friends at work is a 40 something year old Hispanic woman. . .believe me, I know how they can argue! She loves me, but once she starts fighting me on homeschooling, my "utter lack of dating experience" (dat is not good!), and being Baptist (Baptists force their children to marry people in their own church, did you know that? Huh, I didn't either), I just back off. Usually, though, we're on the same side fighting someone else.

Making fun of Baptists? Sounds like my kind of person. I especially love to poke fun at one Baptist in particular. ;) I would join you on homeschooling, though. That is what I intend to do with my children, provided the Lord is willing that I should ever be trusted with any.

Have you tried any of her cooking?

Because I don't have any older brothers, but there are two young men at church (their grandparents are close friends of ours and I've known the boys for most of my life) who delight in torturing me. What do they say when I complain? "Well, ya don't have any older brothers. . .that's what we're here for!" But, you should be used to getting teased, I guess.

And what Baptist would you be speaking of?

Well, I am my sister's favorite brother, so I get somewhat better treatment from her. She didn't quite inherit our father's wit, though, so banter is relatively painless.

And what Baptist would you be speaking of?

Oh, just this really annoying Italian girl who doesn't like anything that I like and always shoots me down when I express myself. Perhaps you know her?

So a Reformed Baptist is not a Baptist?

There were so many witticisms I was tempted to throw out, but to avoid starting a holy war, I decided not to. Besides, you'll grow out of your baptistic notions. ;) Not too long ago, I was one of you.

No! Reformed Baptist is completely different! The Baptists have all those rules, you know! It's a good thing you didn't throw out any witticisms because if you had, I had the perfect one ready to respond. Baptistic notions?!? Pshaw!
