What is the difference between the spirit and the soul? I always found them to be synonyms, but People seem to say spirit and soul and I also thought your mind or thoughts and feelings ARE the soul/spirit. If the soul is not the mind, then you really arent damned or saved afterall but only a part of you that youre not even conscious of? I dont mean that the way it sounded, but could soemone explain how a soul differs from a spirit and likewise with the mind/thoughts.

Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Isaiah 26:9
With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
1 Peter 3:18
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
The Soul is the Living Carnal Mortal Flesh, with the Lifeforce(Breath of God).
The Spirit is the Non-Coporial Eternal (Mentality) within us.
Figuratively speaking The Soul is like an automobile, with the Driver being the Spirit within.

How much do you want to investigate this topic? If you're willing to put in the time, I recommend point #2 of Glenn Miller's article on the existence of the soul:

Oh, so there is the Body which is a our physical shell, the soul which powers it, and the Spirit which is our own mind. thanks. :wave: hi buccaneer!!
the way i see it is this:
we have a body, which can be influenced by either our flesh nature or our new (christlike) nature;
we have a spirit, our human spirit which is basically dead without christ until He breathes life into us;
and we has a soul, which is our mind, will, and emotions, which again, can be influenced by our flesh nature or by Christ.
we have three parts, and two natures.
if our mind were our spirit, then when we recieve Christ our mind would be NEW, the old having passed away, but it is not, sanctification needs to be worked out by us, renewing it. as it is, our minds are generally still quite carnal, so the mind cannot be our spirit, becuase our spirit is given life by the Holy Spirit. until we are saved our spirit is "dormant" so to speak and we are ruled by our flesh nature, becuase our soul without our spirit is incapable of resisting it. it's not until our new man is created (our spirit) that we are able to battle our flesh, and the life withing our new man is the Spirit of God, so it's by His power.
