View Full Version : Looking for new church

I recently left my church, and am looking for a new denomination. I tend to have more beliefs in common with Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian, or the like (ie not born-again). However, the one issue I have with these is that I don't believe in infant baptism. Does anyone have any suggestions, or know which denominations don't believe in IB?
Thanks!

I'm not really sure of your question, because adult baptism is to be "born-again". The term has taken on a really negative connotation from the media in the last few years, so don't be afraid of churches where you are surrounded by those who were saved as adults and baptised then also. I go to a church where everyone is born-again, and I was raised in the Presbyterian church, and I don't see a lot of differences. Not sure if this helps at all, but blessings on your search--looking for a new church can be fun and rewarding!

My suggestion would be to find a church that is not dominated by man-made rules and regulations, but who's doctrine is soundly grounded in the Word of God.

Which brand of Presbyterian? PCA or PCUSA? From what I've seen Presbyterians have little in common with Lutheran or Episcopal.
Also, what do you mean by "not born-again?"

john 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
FYI to be a christian is to be born again! it matters not if you are lutheran, catholic, episcopal, presbyterian..... whatever! to be born again is just to say that Jesus is in the drivers seat in your life. WE ALL NEED TO BE BORN AGAIN!
Good luck! And GOD bless!

Do you have a church in mind where this is the case?
Also, I guess I asked this question incorrectly... sorry! What I meant is that I don't want to go to a church that preaches about hell and damnation. I want a more liberal church. I know some of you won't like me saying this, and I'm not trying to be offensive, but a lot of churches act like the only ones going to be saved are the ones in their denomination. I don't agree with that.
Are there any churches that respect all Christian religions? I have been searching online and found 'Church of Christ'. It looks like somewhat of a non-denominational church that respects everyones' beliefs. Anyone know anything about that?
Thanks so much for your suggestions!

Sometimes it isn't about what we want or what we think is right. God has certainly changed my thinking and my heart about various issues with which I did not agree. I suggest you consider that He will do a work in you as well. If the only sticking point you have with the denominations where you are more comfortable is infant baptism...then find a local congregation you like in one of those denominations and start attending. Be open to where you see God leading you and trust Him to work any needed change in your thinking.

There is a denomination called Evangelical Covenant. They are similar to Presby. They do preform IB, but offer dedication as well. My church is the same. We are Reformed, but dont press the IB. However, I lean towards it as I am convinced by it after a year and a half of studyon the subject. (I used to think as you do towards IB - now 2 (soon to be 3) of my babies have been baptised)

I appreciate all of your ideas, but disagree with those of you who say to just go to a church even if you disagree with them, and the Lord may open up my mind, or something like that. I will not change my mind about infant baptism, as that is something I feel really strongly about. I am confident that children who die go straight to Heaven to be with God, whether baptized or not. They are without sin!
Besides that point, I also wanted to find a somewhat liberal church that welcomes all, even homosexuals. I feel that although some people may not agree with it, who am I to say that they shouldn't come in? Let God decide if it is right or not.
Therein, my problem. Most chuches that practice only adult baptism are also quite conservative and preach that homosexuality is wrong. Once again, it may be, but let God decide that. We don't know if it's biological or not. Maybe God made some people that way for some reason.
ANYWAY, getting back on topic, I found a church called Church of Disciples. They practice only adult baptism and are somewhat liberal. They respect others' beliefs, although it is a Christian Church. I am very excited to visit this church. Hopefully it will work out well for me.
Thanks again for all the kind words!

If you are very serious about picking a denomination, consider the Roman Catholic faith. I suggest you read the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church. Try not to get your information about the Catholic Church from anti-Catholic sources.

Bear in mind that not all churches that practice infant baptism believe that babies who die are going to hell. For instance, Catholic doctrine does not endorse that view. We believe that these children are entrusted to the mercy of God.

I am curious to know if my message would help you to join my new idea. The idea is for the outcome of "good for all" ;That is based on the question from
" looking for new church". i have some unique kind of methode to understand bible with trying to prove the existing of God through simple method. But first i would like to introduce you my prologe as follows.
Introductions
We, human beings as a nature, didn’t individually determine our beginning or destiny. No one decided to be born in the beginning either from this or the other parents or either from this land or the other. No one decided and wanted to be who he (she) is before his or her birth and still today and in the future but anyhow he (she) is who he (she) is and will be. No one decided before time to follow such religion or such idea but he (she) is the follower of what he or she believes in any way.
No one chose to be black or white; red or yellow before his birth etc. or to choose his race what to be or not to be. What and who knows and able to determined about any individual destiny is the only one who have the Knowledge and the Power of every thing, that is the Living God and to understand that mystery (some one )need the time to live forever.
This is the basic start of my idea ! what do you think ? let me have your suggestion or corretion?
