 hey everyone, LOL sorry I had no idea what to call this thread. I have a random sort of question that I've been wondering. Let's say there's a Catholic church that's involved in the Charismatic Renewal...so let's say they have a charismatic prayer group every week and healing Mass once a month, and the Life in the Spirit seminars. (this is based on an actual church in my area). How would this affect the church in general and "normal" Mass? In your churches, how many people are involved in the Renewal, and do they talk in tongues etc during general services? Basically...if a church is involved in the Renewal, does it become a significant part of the church, or does it all stay within the prayer group etc?

(sorry about my grammar lol I'm in a hurry...)

I think it would depend on whether the priest was charismatic, how many in the parish were involved in the Renewal. The situation you describe is similar to where I live. Most parishioners are not in Renewal. In England the Renewal is a very small part of the Catholic population.

At Sunday Mass many of the hymns are those popular in the renewal. Some people raise their hands.

There would be no singing in tongues because it would be too strange to the majority of the congregation and they would find it disturbing. There would be singing in tongues at a Healing Mass though

Monica what I have found at this that point in the Catholic Church, the charismatic manifestations are not usually seen at "sunday mass." But it depends on where you go. Like where I live many parishes have very Spirit filled music but they may not speak in tongues. I think that the renewal is still growing though. Charismatic masses and conferences are a completely different story: much more charismatic gifts are in operation. I guess I am just agreeing with winsome right now. LOL

You would see people being prayed over at charismatic conferences and healing masses all the time. Lots of people being slain in the Spirit and really powerful words of knowledge given after communion at times as well.

For all catholics though, the source and summit of our faith is holy communion. So even if a mass is not charismatic, there is the greatest presence of Jesus available to all.
