Quote:
"By his obedience unto death, Christ communicated to his disciples the gift of royal freedom, so that they might "by the self-abnegation of a holy life, overcome the reign of sin in themselves"

St. Ambrose, Psal 118:14:30: PL 15:1476.

Quote:
"That man is rightly called a king who makes his own body an obedient subject and, by governing himself with suitable rigor, refuses to let his passions breed rebellion in his soul, for he exercises a kind of royal power over himself. And because he knows how to rule his own person as king, so too does he sit as its judge. He will not let himself be imprisoned by sin, or thrown headlong into wickedness."

To obey is better than sacrifice...Some times we 'do" things to try to prove our love when all that He wants is to be obedient to the last thing He told us to do...

Obedience to God is very important, to be in disobedience is to be in sin.

If we disobey then we are walking away from God and what He wants from us.

Someone told me earlier on in my Christian walk, when we disobey God we actually are walking out from under his umbrella of protection..

That has always stuck with me and when I am tempted to knowingly disobey, [maybe because it seems to hard at the time to obey] I remember then, those words and the impact of actually knowingly taking myself out of Gods protection hits home hard.

Even our own agenda on how God should be working can get in the way at times. Sometimes, surprisingly, God knows best. LOL He always knows best

It was the disobedience of Adam (and Eve) that got us into this mess in the first place.

The adversitises we experience and sometimes normal everyday life too, really can put most of us under some amount of pressure to live up to TRUSTING GOD. To do a good job of being obedient requires trust.

In Matthew 19:16-23, we are told of a man who wanted to come and follow Jesus, but he was not willing to follow Jesus’ command to sell everything. Actually, he might have done it if he had taken the time to think about it, but the Lord wanted him to do it immediately, just as Simon, Andrew, James and John had dropped their fishing equipment without hesitation to dedicate their lives to the Lord.

The story of this man, often referred to as the Rich Young Ruler in modern discussions, is applicable to us for that very reason: he was expected to obey God immediately, without worrying about his possession or other worldly concerns. Sadly, this man is not alone. He lost a chance at salvation. You and I may have salvation, but we are still called to immediate obedience, and the thing that will keep us from this is the worries of the world, and possessions, both of which are temporary anyway.

This is why Matthew 6:21 says that where your treasure is, there is your heart also.

Saint John of the Cross says,

"Those who fall alone remain alone in their fall, and they value their soul little since they entrust it to the themselves alone."

He lived bound to the rule of obedience as a means to break the pride that infects the human soul.

Pride wittles away at us everyday in so many ways that go undetected. The glory of obedience is freedom from our pride and living community among the people of God.
