Has this happened to you..or someone you know?
Is it a part of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal?
....what is it? LOL.
I kinda have a story about it...I typed it out but then decided to wait a little before sharing it. I want to hear what you guys have to say first :)
By the way, I was never slain in the Spirit at least I think not. lol.

Hi Monica,
I just came from our first friday charismatic healing mass, and many people were slain in the Spirit.
I have also been slain in the Spirit a few times and I have a story about it.
Before the story I am about to share happened, God showed me in a dream that power was going to be coming out from one of my friends at the upcoming seminar.
My mom was going to charismatic conferences with me but she was still very new to the whole thing. Well after having gone to several conferences, we had a life in the Spirit seminar and she went. It was 3 days of teaching with the ending of being baptized in the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands.
Waht happened was, on the last day it was the conclusino. the newcomers were going up to be prayed over and the leaders were doing the laying of hands. Everyone else stayed in the pews and prayed with hands outstretched.
The friend God showed me in the dream was there helping lead the conference, and I later found out that she is the very person who prayed over my mom.
So anyways, I was in the pews but praying so hard for mom. You have no idea. I was praying as hard as I could in tongues and in english as well. Just asking God to pour out His Spirit upon her in a powerful way. Well there was a line to get to the front and what ahpened was I turned my head for aminute then looked back and my mom was gone! I was looking around everywhere for her from the pew but I couldn't see her.
This went on for like almost 2 minutes, when suddenly I saw her getting up off the floor and walking towards me! She had been laying on the ground and I couldn't see here from my vantage point. She sat next to me and she looked kind of puzzled. I said oh mom you were slain in the Spirit! She started to look like joy was welling up in her. And then she said "I didn't tell you this before but I didn't believe in any of this stuff all this time." And she was just bursting with joy, you could see it on her face and expression, and she was like, wow. That day really had effect on her. I think it was both the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the being slain was part of the package.
She believed from then on!

You would definitely know if you were "slain in the Spirit". It is an extremely powerful experience where you feel the power of the Holy Spirit so strongly that you are powerless, and fall back onto the floor. It is always a good idea to have someone stand behind you to catch you when this happens. I experienced this once at a healing mass where I was standing in proxy for my brother who needed a healing. When I was prayed over, the power of the Holy Spirit started to knock me back, but (in a natural reaction), I resisted, and instead of falling back, I was carried back to my pew as if I was floating back and my feet were not even touching the floor. I remained in this spiritual state for quite a while. It was very peaceful. By the way, my brother was healed. Thank you Jesus.

The Presence of the Holy Spirit can become so Powerful at times that "it is like we are lifted up to meet Him in awesome way". That is how it has been for me, many times.
I have a mom story too.
My husbands mother was pure old fashioned Italian. She was a good good Catholic lady. Never missed Mass, followed all the rules "she had been taught", but also, every single day of her adult life spent a full hour in her bedroom praying her rosary, prayer cards and her long list of folks who needed prayer. She knew nothing about scripture or anything whatsoever about the Charismatic Renewal. Many of my Catholic friends remember this old pre-Vatican II lifestyle.
Mom (who was then 82 years old) came to spend a week with us. She heard that I was going to prayer meeting. She asked if she could go with me and I said of course. Well, she gathered up her rosary and prayer cards and off we went. During the entire prayer meeting she prayed her Rosary, head bowed and eyes closed, then went through her stack of prayer cards.
Mom had been suffering from a pro-laped bladder and would soon need surgery.
So, when most of the Prayer meeting was over, the Prayer group leader asked if anyone needed prayer for healing. My mother in law had just looked up after finishing her prayers. She asked me if he was praying for the sick and I said he was.
She got up and went forward. Roger asked her what her illness was. She told him it was none of his business, it was private. LOL, I will never forget that!
Well Roger layed hands on her and BANG, down she went. No catcher, no idea it would happen, no one else had been slain in the Spirit so far, and then she started speaking in tongues while down. It definately sounded like Hebrew. Not a language she could know.
When she got up, she as completely surprised. She said, "guess what, God and I just talked to each other in JEWISH! Oh, wait till I tell my girl friends this!"
She talked about this for weeks. She had no idea about anything else that happened at the prayer meeting and never went to another Charismatic meeting.
It witnessed the gift of tongues to my husband when she went home and told him what had happened.

The whole story talked to me.
The fact that here is a 82 yr. old devout Catholic woman, who probably would never even think of tipping her tow in the Charismatic movement, witnessed the true presence of the Holy Spirit, to be a testimony for so many.
When you least expect it.. POW... The Holy Spirit shows up, right on time, and used the least expected person to show his mighty presence.
The fact that she conversed with our Father God in Hebrew, and remembered it. WOW. really WOW!
The kicker was the funny part, what she said to Roger "Roger asked her what her illness was. She told him it was none of his business, it was private."

I can soooo relate. I have been so embarrassed at many things where the Holy Spirit wase concerned. Now I look back, and have a good laugh. Because it really was funny. Only we would see the humor in it. People who are not charismatic would think... "We flew over the Ko, Ko's nest". He He.

HAHAHAHAHA ROFLOL!
You are absolutely right. Her girl friends, however were truly impressed.
You know, these old girls were brought up to be pretty superstitious. My mother in law believed in the evil eye and she said she knew a woman who could remove the evil eye. Some of these older Italian women were, in some ways, deeply spiritual. Maybe not in the same way we are today, with the scriptural background we have.
In the Church some of these folks grew up in, fear was used in the teachings to keep them in line.
This was typical not just in the Church but also in the schools and the family.
Times have changed, big tiime. My hubby keeps saying when the pendulum swings way over to one side, it will swing back to the other util a balance is found.
We will see.

Yep the old school. That is somewhat how I was brought up in the faith as well. Maybe just not quite as strict as your Mother in-law. In my opinion and experience, the evil eye is quite a testy (bugger), I mean spirit.
Time for me to go rest in the Lord. Past my bed time. Nice to chat with you. Peace and Blessings.

Hey all..I was pretty much thrown in to the Spirit filled life from the beginning...I saw alot of the Spirit but sadly I saw alot of flesh also..I been around people goind out and experienced it myself...I also was a little leery of some of the things I saw..I had people try to help me go down and I would just push back.
I had struggled with porn ever since being show it as a teen and knew it was damaging my marriage but couldn't break it..My wife at the time hesitantly watched as I went forward at some visiting deliverance ministry speaker at church...She had made up her mind to divorce me so I was desperate...I practically ran up and he annointed me with oil. I very lightly felt his fingers touch me with the oil and "boom". It was like my body was gell.. I was on the floor and out in a second.. I vaugely remember him with me on the floor and prayer.. I KNEW when I was coherent that something remarkable happened and I walked home feeling like I was on air.. I have been porn free for 6 years now even with all the time I spend online..Sadly though my wife had already made up her mind to divorce, but I was set free from that bondage to porn..shalom..Kim

Sometimes the Lord allows us to lose everything, and brings us to our knees because thats the only way our hard heads (LOL, talking about myself here) will follow HIS perfect will for our lives, and not his permissive will.

Slain in the Spirit, what a wonderful sometimes life changing gift we are given. When this happens, I believe the Holy Spirit is doing his most intricate work within us.
Kind of like spiritual surgery. I use the term only because of working in the medical field.
For me it happened at a healing prayer mass in a vary small chapel.
A friend took me there to introduce me to a nun who was gifted in many ways by the Holy Spirit. Especially with the gift of healing.
After visiting with her for several hours, she invited us to stay for a healing mass, and to my surprise, asked me to be a part of the healing prayer team that evening.
I was scared to death, my first response was OH NO! Thats not for me. I cant pray over people, who the heck am I. I don't have that gift. But my friend encouraged me, and so, knee shaking I accepted her invitation, and decided if this is what the Holy Spirit wanted, how can I say no.
We began to pray over people. Some people were falling on the ground resting in the Spirit. Others, sat quietly in their seats, some had tears as well as laughter. One woman who was using a rolling walker, was able to walk without it after the prayer over her. Praise God!
At this point I am all comfy in what we are doing and really enjoying being a help to our Lord.
Then all of the sudden the Nun turned to me, face to face, her eyes felt like they pierced right through me. I thought... Uh, Oh... I'm not going out..., I'm not going out..., I'm not going out!! She placed her hands on my head and BOOM! Yep, I couldnt fight it. I went out.
I don't know how long I was out but I was told it was about 10 min. I was also told I laid their quietly for a little while, then started talking gibberish quietly (don't have a clue if it was a language). Then began to laugh hysterically, vary loud. This is what kind of brought me to. I remember being in the presence of our Lord. I don't think he said a word to me, or at least I can't remember if He did.
When I was ready to get up off the floor, I was astounded by the location where I had been slain in the Spirit. I was under a large archway, right in front of the alter where the Blessed Sacrament was exposed, directly under a Crucifix. Guess, the Lord wanted me to really get it. LOL.
The Lord did a lot of work on me that day. It changed my walk with him and my daily life profoundly. Blessings and Peace.

When I first came into the Charismatic Renewal, I always say I came kicking and fighting. I was a convert and had some very scary experiences with Pentecostals. My paternal Grandmother had been a wild woman in her early days, (books could have been written about her but let me just say that the character of Kitty was modeled after her in the series, Gunsmoke. This is true.).At any rate, after a long life of hell raising she got religion and became a Pentecostal. Shudder thinking about it.
So, the Renewal was not welcomed by me. I cannot remember how I started attending a "Mission" at our parish. It was a week long one, I certainly didn't know it had anything to do with the Charismatic Renewal. When I saw the Priest praying over someone and them falling under the power of the Spirit, I got up and headed for the back of the Church and the Ladies room, wondering how I could flee the situation.
My back was to the Priest as I walked away. The next thing I knew, I was flat on my back on the floor. I became aware of this warm feeling then just overwhelming love. I felt Jesus take my right hand and hold it in the most loving embrace. Then I felt someone who I didn't know take my left hand. I was puzzled, it was a male. Finally the name St. Benedict came into my mind. I knew nothing whatsoever about St. Benedict.
I felt myself telling the Lord how much I loved and adored Him. I knew I was talking to Him.
Very slowly I came back to earth. When I did, there was the Priest and other people praying over me. I was still trying to tell Jesus how much I adored him but realized it was not in my own language.
When I sat up, my left hand was still closed holding on to something. When I opened my hand, there was a medal in it. Father held it up and looked at me. He said it was a medal of St. Benedict. I told him what had happened and he just smiled. He asked if he could keep the medal, the Lord was urging him to. I nodded my head and he slipped it into his pocket.
I realized at that moment that this is where Jesus wanted me. And here I am 40 years later.

Yes, some deliverance ministry. Why do you ask?
I still know nothing of St. Benedict. I took this as only a sign. Never read anything more into it.
However, over the years, one over the years, one of my best friends started out as a Benedictine but he later became a Diocesan Priest. Another friend, was a Benedictine sister but left the community when she was about 40 years old. Then Abbott David is very special and he is Benedictine.
Other than that, a small sip of Benedictine Liquor is my only contact. LOL
Can you tell me something here?

I ask because St. Benedict is extremely powerful in the deliverance ministry. He usually shows up in a vary powerful way when one is called to use him in use him for intercession for that type of ministry, and when one is called to that ministry. wow what amazing stories!! :D  thanks for the replies everyone.
I've never been slain in the Spirit, although one time, I felt His presence around me and it was so peaceful I found it difficult to stand..so I lay down on the floor lol. this was in my room. But it wasn't like what you're all describing. I'm kinda wondering what would happen if I went to a charismatic prayer meeting where people are praying in tongues, etc...hmm...I hope I'll get to go sometime in the future.
By the way, I also found this very funny:
She got up and went forward. Roger asked her what her illness was. She told him it was none of his business, it was private. LOL, I will never forget that!
lol!! ^_^
Oh in my OP I said I have a story, so here it is:
I was recently at a Christian conference for five days...it wasn't charismatic but interdenominational. I met some Pentecostals though, and Catholics, and Baptists, Presbyterians, etc. LOL. It was for university students in Eastern Canada. Well one night I was going to go ice skating with my friend..but we went downstairs instead (the conference was at a hotel), and there was a group of about 5 people singing worship songs..so we decided to join them. (lol I'm glad I didn't go skating that day!!). Then, this random guy came and asked the girl with the guitar what sort of songs she plays...and she said, "worship music". He was a little surprised...so maybe he wasn't a Christian. I don't know. Well he sat down and started listening to us sing...and after about ten minutes, he started praying. You could tell he was praying...and this lasted for like two hours! lol! By that time, it was no longer 5 people...more like 50!! and several guitarists...and then some Pentecostals came and started leading the worship... it was pretty amazing actually!! we were there for such a long time. And then, I saw that the guy had lied down and I thought he was just listening to the music. But then, the security guards from the hotel came and said that we were too loud (lol) and asked us to move to another room...so we got up to move, but the guy was still lying down. And no one could wake him up, lol! it looked like something was happening to him although I don't know what. I mean..it kinda looked like he was experiencing something.
So...I think that maybe he was slain in the Spirit! I *like* to think that he was an atheist who wondered into our prayer/worship meeting and then got slain in the Spirit and became a Christian, hehehe. :)
By the way, when we moved to the other room...we kept on worshipping and this lasted all night, lol. And this was the night of the 1st (New Year)...best New Years I've ever had! :D

No, they don't. Did you read my post about being slain in the Spirit. That is what brought this up.
Putting power in medals would be superstition. However folks often wear them to remind them of a special Saint and the lives they led.
I always wear a Dove, always. It reminds me of the Holy
Spirit. But I have a small medal of St. Martin De Porres on my charm bracelet, both because he is my sons Patron Saint and because he led an awesome Christian life.

I missed it but I read it...What are patron saints..Do you pick when you become Catholic..I know they sell statues to bury in your yard to sel your house..Is he a patron saint?
HAHAHa, Somewhere I read about burying a statue in the yard to help you sell a house. Now, to me, that is the ultimate of Saint superstition.
Well, my sons patron saint is a long story. Would you like to hear it?
Well, since you asked....
First of all, I had my oldest son, now 52 years old with no problems whatsoever. After that, I could not get pregnant. I did have one pregnancy that lasted for 4 1/2 months, I was put to bed and given weekly shots but still lost the baby. After that, the doctor told me I could not have another child. There were some very severe medical problems that would prevent it.
Then about 9 years later, my husband lost a ten year job he was building his career on. It was devistating to him. I had recently been told about St Martin De Porres by a friend, had read about him and was impressed by his life. She had given me a novena to him (9 days of asking him to offer prayer). This was very popular back then. So, I did the novena, asking that St Martin pray for my husband to have something happen to make him be happy. The next thing I knew I was pregnant. I was totally beside myself. Our health insurance would only be good for exactly 9 months from the day he left his job. How could something like this happen!!!!!
Well, the pregnancy went perfectly normal. The doctor was so sure I would miscarry he told me to go on with my normal life. I raised horses and he said to go on riding. I did exactly that. I carried my second son to term. He was small but according to the doctor, no more than a week or so early. I went into labor and delivered him on the very last day that our insurance was in force...and...brace yourself, on the feast day of St Martin De Porres.
In our thoughts that made him my son's patron Saint.
My son was given Martin as his middle name and Baptism name.
I have heard many times that these kind of things are not unusual when associated with Martin De Porres.
You can google him and read more. I think he was a good Christian and a good role model.

By the way, I was never slain in the Spirit at least I think not. lol.
Its happened to me twice.
Once when prayed over by the Bishop of Toledo and again by Fr. Jazo.
There were actual gaps in my memory from the one moment to the next, I have no idea how much time elapsed. I am positive healing happened that was evident in many ways after that. Its been over 10 years ago now and I have been prayed over several times since but never struck.
I recently read some very interesting stuff about this subject in St. John of the Crosses "Dark Night" in Book II chapter II. It really hit home in the Spirit.

and...brace yourself, on the feast day of St Martin De Porres.
I have a similar story. 13 years ago now I experienced a heartbreaking experience that drew me back to the Church after attending many different denoms but never really trying to live the faith. I traveled for a living then and have logged well over a million miles and several countries in the last 18 years and the first Church I walked into and began attending daily mass, met my first spiritual director and many supportive people who commiserated with me and understood my pain was called St. Francis Xavier. I had moved on some time later and through study decided to pick a patron saint. Though I didn't really have any method to do this, I got a recommendation to choose one from my birthday. I had a book of saints for the year and when I opened it to the day of my birth it fell to St. Francis Xavier and as I read on I found out he was the patron of travelers! I have always believed since then that his intercession helped guide me to that first Church even before I knew anything about him. I have made it back there many times over the years and always feel as at home there as where I grew up.
Peace.

Is is interesting how this thread turned to the intercession of Heaven as we bagn to talk about being slain in the Holy Spirit.
Maybe the saints themselves and the angels have a big part to play in this. I have heard that some people say that when they saw someone slain, they seemed to float onto their back, as if being layed down by angels.
What do you think of that?

St. Francis Xavier (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06233b.htm)
He is a great example but of all the Saints in heaven and the (I think) nearly 6000 catalogued by Butlers the one who stands out and has helped me the most spirutally would have to go to St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort. Thank you. That is some good reading. I love to read about the saints. I am sure it will take a lifetime just to study a handful. We are all called to be saints, and their lives are such great examples of how we can try to imitate them. I find their trials and afflictions are the same as ours, even greater. The difference is I think, the grace they receive to be obedient to God.
Humm? Obedience has been coming up a lot lately for me. You think i am being told to take a look at something? Yikes. Peace and Blessings my dear brother.

I shared with a priest what happened to me when I sat with my dying brother. He told me I was to hold it near to my heart and not talk to others about it. That kind of puzzles me!

Sure, well at my church we have this thing called Prayer Ministry, where it's bascially a really long confessional like 5 hours, wer basically sit down and listen to the person share their life with us. The person has to make a list of sins and a list of people they need to forgive. Then we while all this is going on are listening to the Holy Spirit and asking Him to show us what lies the person has been believing, dealing with alot of root issues. Then after that we deal with the demonic realm if any is present. Sort of like a Exorcism, but we call it deliverance ministry. After that we ask for the Holy Spirit to fill the person and stir up the gifts inside that person who is recieving ministry. We were doing ministry on this one lady who was in ministry for like 25 years. We went through her whole life, and heard her life story. She had some issues with unforgiveness and she chose to forgive the person. Then there were some demonic issues there and she got set free of that stuff. The cool thing is when the darkness was broken we saw her face rejuvinate and she actually looked 10 years younger. It was the Lord made her face younger, once the demonic oppression was broken. Well then we get to the infilling we laid hands on her and started to pray in the Holy Spirit and all of a sudden it was like I was intoxicated in peace & joy, so much so it made my head feel kinda heavy- like I was literally drunk, it only lasted for maybe 10 mins- but it was really powerful.

Fascinating Eyez. So it is like you ask God to help the person to be freed from their sins. I am glad that you are helping people to turn their lives to the Lord. That is a great blessing to be a part of I am sure.
Interesting to know that this is done in a pentecostal church. It is not quite the same thing as confession in a catholic Church but it is good to know that you are doing this kind of ministry. God bless you all of your work for Jesus.

Confession is a powerful tool and a humbling experiance.
Yes it is. Thats why its a sacrament within the Church. Imagine hearing from the persona Christi that you have been absolved of all your sins and were able to keep those sins private between you and Jesus.
You say that your method is confessing all your sins in public, what are your thoughts about everyone else hearing what your sins are? How would someone confess a capital crime without out fear of being turned in to the authorities or having fear of calumny by the congregation later on? Does anyone ruin their good name/reputation/lives when doing this?
Peace.

I have been thinking about what you said Eyez. I think it is indeed good to confess, I know it is healthy to do so to others. At the same time, I also wonder about causing scandal in telling people I don't know too well my sins in public.

Actually the prayer ministry is done in private, with 2 or 3 people. One being a leader of the church, and at the end we ask the Lord to remove things out of our heads to forget what we have heard.( You'd be amazed how quickly you forget stuff) The trust issue is a big thing with our church, so we dont discuss it with other people. It stays in that room and with the Lord. The person recieving prayer also rips up their sin & forgiveness list at the end and it gets discarded.

Especially in the church world or else it starts at the 8am service, by Noon the whole town knows your business. Confessing my sins has truly changed my life and it sounds like yours as well.
But I can remember when people would really attack the church for having confession to a priest. Now you guys are actually seeing the blessing that can come to you through confession to a priest.

Humbling indeed! It took me a lot to start going back to confession (years ago).
Its really heard to do an examination of conscious. Even harder to speak the words. But once I do, I feel like snow white. :)
What the Holy Spirit has been doing with me lately is, showing me my sins daily, even sometimes hourly. Boy, let me tell you, that is real humbling. Even the little things we would generally look at as unimportant. But they are so important to God.
Walking daily in true Holiness is so challenging at times. I find myself repenting all the time. "Jesus Son of God, have mercy on me, and forgive me, a sinner". Amen!

I have been trying to find a natural way to improve my breathing after losing part of my lung and being toasted and roasted with radiation for lung cancer.
Any suggestions?
I am sure God has provided many ways to help us to better health right here in nature.

Amen, It's the little foxes that spoil the vines....I really keep a short list also and clean house before i sleep..My wife and I are both going thru the change together.I get the hot flashes from my thyroid being out of wack and testinesss since I am way lacking in sleep..She gets way testy and we can sometines be a little short with each other...It really keeps us caring and understanding with each ohter.. We have devotions and prayer together before we hit the sack ..It gives some much peace to be pure in heart before the Lord before you sleep..I learned each in my wife something called " practicing the presence of Christ" which keeps you mindful moment by moment that Jesus is hearing, seeing and watching me..It really helps to keep me out of easy sins..Bringing every thought captive to Chist helps to keep the thought life pure..shalom..Kim
I read a book called the Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence.

Wow,
what was the event?
That looks like the school of Healing prayer in Florida. (I have seen pics of the retreat here online a few times)Yes, it was from the school of healing prayer (Emerging Leaders in Healing conference) that held in Florida last March/April. It was sponsored by the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services, with an official delegation from the Vatican present, in conjunction with Christian Healing Ministries (www.christianhealingmin.org) (http://www.christianhealingmin.org)), which is Francis McNutt's ministry.

Catholic Flame and I were blessed to attend MacNutts School of Healing Prayer this past September in Anaheim.
It was a wonderful experience. I am now in charge of teaching healing teams in our Prayer Group and using this and the outline you sent me for teaching.

Oh by the way, I noticed that there are 3 Priests in this photo. Was this a teaching specifically for clergy?

You guys are cracking me up! LOL. I can't get away from the natural health stuff.
I have opened and closed two businesses in two states. It has been my life. Even working in the hospital, same thing...
Perhaps we can start a natural health Q & A thread. As always, I will take it to our Lord in prayer. It is a serious thing for me, because I am dealing with peoples well being. But in the mean time if you have any questions I would be happy to answer, just pm me. Natural Health knowledge is Gods gift to me to give out to you. Peace and Blessings.

By the way one of my favorite saints that has helped me so much in understanding natural health in the light of God is St. Hildegard of Bingen. You might want to google her.;)

Good suggestion! Whenever I pray the divine mercy in song, something remarkable happens to me. All time stops, I don't even have the knowledge that there is anything else around me, except the prayer and the presence Lord. I dont even feel my one self (if you can understand that). I really feel as if I am somewhere else. But I really dont know where, its not a place. Is this making sense? The presence is so thick and so strong. The same thing happens to me before the blessed sacrament. Would this be considered, being slain in the Spirit?

I have been slain in the Spirit a few times. Once at a Charismatic Catholic Healing Mass and a few other times at Pentecostal churches. Thing is, I don't know if my experiences were real or not because I wanted to be slain in the Spirit so bad that I may have subconsciously forced it to happen or something. Does anyone get my drift?

Yes , I get your drift...There are sometimes when those doing minitry try to "help" you and that pushing turns me off..And then there are those you count on going down..What I found out if God wants to minister to you He will do it in spite of of man fleshly responses.peace to you..k

Hehe, look for the ones looking over there shoulder for a catcher. ;)
I can attest that I have been struck twice when I didn't want to be and acctually tried to stay up. Once by the Bishop of Toledo and once by Fr. Jazo in Medjugorie. Both times (over 10 yrs ago now) I didn't know what happened and time elapsed without my being aware of it. If my subconscious mind did this then I sure wish I could control it. ;)
Peace.

I am not familiar with the Charismatic movement so please excuse my ignorance, but, what does it mean to be slain in the Spirit?
Okay, I went back and read the early posts, should have done that to begin with. I don't think that I have been slain in the Spirit, from what I gather I would know. There have been a few times in my life though when I have felt the Holy Spirit so powerfully that I could almost touch Him. I felt such peace and it was like God's love surrounded me like a warm blanket wrapping around me.
May God give you His peace,
Nancy

Hey Nancy, The Lord be present to you.
What you described sounds like a deep experience of the love and peace of our God. Being wrapped up in a blanket of peace. I feel like that sometimes in adoration but I have also felt it during times of praise.
Being "slain" or "resting in the Spirit" as it's also called is like being in the water and a wave of the Holy Spirit comes over you. It puts you into such a peace that you literally are put to bed by God (fall into a kind of peaceful rest).
I was just watching a video on Medjugorje where, while the apparation was happening, a priest there, who was doubting its validity, suddenly rested in the Spirit (He fell over into a deep calm). LOL afterwards they interviewed Him and He said that it was probably one of best spiritual experiences he had ever had.
I have a friend who is a nun who had been given 5 months to live due to throat cancer. She went to visit a charismatic healing priest who is well known and as the people were going up to be prayed over for healing by him, they were falling over one after another. Well as she was going up, she kept telling herself that she was not going to fall over. She had never been to something like this. So she was like begging and even asking God not to let her be slain. But she told me, when it was her turn, as the priest layed his hands over her and prayed, she felt this incredible force of power that she told me that she just couldn't resist. She was definately slain right then!
And her cancer was gone after that.

Yep same thing happened to me. I told the Lord "I am not going out", because I did not believe in it, i thought people were faking, until it happened to me. Then boom, there I went, OUT! It was a beautiful experience.
I was told to never say never, where the Lord is concerned.

I hope that this thread was a blessing to you CathNancy. I never heard of your reply, I hope that you were not slain in the Spirit by reading this!
I can understand that this is probably one of the hardest things to accept about the charismatic renewal: Resting in the Spirit.
I know tht many catholics have a hard time accepting something they have not heard of before. Yet, surprisingly, there are many stories from teh faithful who didn't want to accept it who God showed that He will move in power like this at times.
Peace blessings to you in Christ

Ok... to back up a bit here...
The terms "slain in the Spirit" and "resting in the Spirit" (my preference) are simply new labels for what has, throughout Church history, being called an "ecstatic state". It is simply a state in which one becomes so enraptured in the spiritual realm that one is temporarily incapable of functioning in the natural. As such, one may very well fall to the floor, unable to stand up. At other times, one may not fall down-- especially if the person is already in a position physically (such as kneeling, or lying prostrate) that would enable the persons body to remain as is with very little effort/thought.
When reading the lives of various saints, one finds references to such happening... however, the emphasis is usually on the result of the occurrence and not on the details of how it happened. For instance, the prophetic healing, prophetic vision, etc. that one may receive during such a time is significantly more important that "falling down". It should also be noted that during such experiences, one does not always receive a healing, vision, etc.-- which in no way detracts from the validity of the experience. Rather, one may simply encounter Christ in a more profound way... which is actually the entire reason for such an experience-- to encounter Christ more profoundly.
