Mods please sticky this thread.

Deuteronomy 10:18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

Deuteronomy 15:7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

Matthew 25
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ...
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

May the merryness of your heart be not seasonal but all year around.

Many people are in need of help. Some of them we know from CF. Please share your blessing.

I give to my local church, to the SDA church (through tithe), and sometimes other stuff (For example, ADRA). I generally try to tie my giving to Christian organizations as I am a Christian and want to be glad to be a Christian.

I don't give nearly enough. For one, I don't make all that much, but I Still spend a lot of money on food and some money other other entertainments.

I might look at doing this, but I am not sure where the funds are best used.

Although I am unable to help right now, this is a wonderful show of Christianity's good side! I'm really proud of you guys! ^_^ Especially since I was recently reading some of Paul's writings about giving. *lol*

This thread's now stickied, at your request.

JM Jon, Please feel free to share any ideas that you have. It looks like right now that we have two families that could use some help. I am not sure if we are going to help one and then the other or both at the same time. I guess it just depends on the funds available. Thanks to all those that are helping out. Let's all come together and do something good for others.

I'm going to help out with this because I think it's a great idea.

Hi,

Please indicate the recipient of your donation.

The final donation will be delivered discretely (as possible) for your confidentiality.

Thanks! :)

DL, if people do decide to donate some help to the family I've mentioned, I know that gift certificates to Wal-Mart and/or Kroger's would be very helpful to them.

She doesn't have a bank account so I know she doesn't have a PayPal account either.

Sure that can arranged. You will probably have to send it to her.

I can do that. Or I can send you her address and name.

I hope that everyone is taking the chance to look over this thread. Please contribute your thoughts, and hopefully if you are moved you will contribute financially.

We can help those here in amongst our ranks or if you know of someone that could use some help that would be fine as well.

Give us some input.

Okay, just so you guys know....

There isn't a place on there to add any comments or notes, so for the record I'd like to state that the money I donated needs to go to the family I mentioned from Ohio. I will continue donating (as I can), but this is who I'd like to help out this time around, okay?

Love you guys!

Hi,

If you want to give to the fund, but not sure who the recipients are (besides the family T&O motioned), please PM me. I'm not sure at this point I can give out their names here yet. Thanks.

Matthew 19:30 .... and the last shall be first.

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

We have $240 in the fund. And another $50 committed.

Here are the 3 friends that could use some help. I have their permissions now to list their names: T&O's friend, Intothecrimsonsky and Catlover.

The donation will be sent out shortly. Thank you all so much for supporting and sharing your blessings.

Galatians 6:7...for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

I wanted to express a concern I have with this, which isn't a big deal, but something worthy of being mentioned.

I donated to my friend this time, and OntheDL ended up sending me back the money to give it to her, so PayPal made about $7.00 off the whole deal--which cost me and OntheDL some money and left my friend without the full amount.

It would've made more sense for me just to send the money directly to her through gift cards, you know?

Is there any other way besides PayPal to do this?

Why? I know if you send money with Paypal by credit card, they charge 3%. But I sent cash. They shouldn't have charged anything.

They charge the recipient a fee for any transfer of funds into their account. That's why PayPal loves the eBayers! If they charge a small fee on every transaction it isn't that noticeable and they make a fortune.

I added the fee amount back in to give an even number to my friend, and it really isn't that big of a deal, but I think we should explore other ways to donate, if possible.

No problems. :)

The other ways are western union/money gram, money order, direct wire. None is ideal. Maybe there is a better way to do it online than using paypal. We'll have to look into it.

It's been awhile since we have been active in this thread. At least I haven't received any new pm's about possible recipients lately.

Have we stopped our giving or am I just 'out of the loop now'? lol

I have an interesting story to tell in relation to my friend that received the donation.

She put the gift card in her wallet when she received it in the mail and that same day her daughter took her to Wal-Mart, which is about 45-minutes away from her I believe she said. They shopped for a while and then left.

They got all the way home before she realized that she didn't have her purse.

All the women on this board reading that probably let out a gasp because there's nothing as heart-wrenching as realizing your purse is missing. :)

Her and her daughter rushed back to Wal-Mart and checked the shopping cart area and there weren't any purses. She went inside in a panic and the guy at customer service said "I bet you're looking for a purse."

Someone turned it in to them and they didn't take a thing. She had left it in her shopping cart outside.

God does have people here on earth still, for sure!

Great story Honor!

My son worked in a grocery store parking lot collecting carts. He was working Thanksgiving Day and a woman left her purse and he found it and turned it in. Of course the woman came back, and low and behold there was $3000 in her purse. She offered him a $100 reward. Needless to say he felt better about working on Thanksgiving.

Honor? It's time for new glasses my brother. :)

You raised a good man, MVA!

My dad recently left his wallet at a doughnut shop, and there was a major language barrier between him and the owners. He kept offering them a reward because there wasn't any money missing from his wallet and they had it all day and were honest about having it. They kept thinking he was trying to buy more doughnuts when he was trying to hand them the money. HA!

He'd hold out the money and the owner kept saying "you want glazed or what?"

I love that story.

I don't know how I let that mistake happen. 41 is a rough age - I'm just falling apart.

I'm only 1 year and 364 days behind you brother.

We'll fall apart together. :)

One thing I know for sure is that Jesus will put these old broken bodies back together and give us perfect ones later.

It's worth the wait!

I think we should get back to this and help out a family this season. I don't agree with "Christmas" per se, but we all know it's a time when most people give gifts--and children aren't particularly interested in the pagan origins of the holiday. ha

What say ye? Can we pick this back up?

Red, can you move this thread back over to the main forum stickies? It isn't really a debatable topic, but more along the lines of helping someone.

PS...My family is doing fine this season and I can honestly say that my children and I have everything we need. I know what it's like when you can't say that though and I want to help someone, and I'm hoping others will too.
