Hi,

I'd like to suggest blue, green and pink feet for lost brothers, sisters, and siblings of uknown gender. I haven't lost a baby, but I have lost a sister. I can't use the feet for lost children but I would like to be able to have represented that I did lose a sister. I know that there must be people out there to have lost a brother or sister and would like that to be represented, so I'm putting this idea up for consideration.

This has been open for a month with no big interest. Icons need to be chosen with care because we could have like 100 icons and people would not like that.

Well it's just my sister was murdered and I'd like to have feet or something to represent that. I can't use the feet for children, but I will if I have to. This is something that's really important to me, so if I sound irritated I'm really not. I just don't see why there can't be the option for lost siblings.

I understand, but we have to look at the bigger picture. One person out of the entire site, isn't a lot to add an entirely new icon. Maybe you can put something your signature in remembrance ( forgive if you do, I have signatures turned off )

Yes, I do. And I'm not sure that just because more haven't replied to this that I'm the only one who cares. Give it more time. I don't think this forum is a really active one so it might take time. But people generally like to memoralize the loved ones we've lost. That's in our human nature, so I think that given more time, more people may sign on to this. It's not like I'm asking for special treatment here, I just thought it would be a nice idea.

But then we would need icons for living brothers and sisters also.

Then to be fair we would need one for a deceased spouse.
Living and deceased grandchildren.
It could go on and on.

I understand your wish to honor your sister though.

Uh-huh. *thinks...See I hadn't thought about that. Hmm...well, in your opinion could I go ahead and use the pink feet even though I haven't lost a daughter?

Just a suggestion- there could be a new icon for lost family member (perhaps different ones for male and female) and then a self-declaration you can fill in yourself, like 'One lost family member- parent'. This would stop the potential problem of having more and more icons for each family member by making the icon more general.
Just an idea though, not sure if it's helpful!

No, that's actually a pretty good idea. That way, it could be more generic, and if you were hover your mouse over it, a brief caption of who it was for could pop up like with the flags. How smart are you?! Good idea  !

If you wanted, you could. It's just special to you, then that's fine. We just can't have people abusing the system. I think the sig would be the best way to represent them though.

Are there any suggestions on what the icon should look like?

maybe the letter b for brothers and the letter s for sisters and if the baby gender was not known the letter u

or if you want we can have a lf icon and when you hover your mouse over it a text box appears and there you can place what member(s) you have lost or maybe a lf icon and have a section in your profile that says what member(s) were lost

What about a candle?

It could be a simple lined candle with a blue flame for a male and a pink flame for a female and if you hover the mouse over, you can chose the person lost....like parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin.

(shrug) Just a thought...

I think the candle would be more appropriate--- that way we don't have to have a different letter for each family member. Plus if you had B and a S next to each other... that looks sorta bad. :sorry:

What do you all think of this one? http://www.babyboomz.com/aypimages/candle-icon.gifor this (though it would have to be made smaller) http://www.beyondindigopets.com/images/icon_candle.gif
