Happy New Year! :tutu:
Last night the moderators of Theologia Crucis-Lutherans decided that we needed to post a message to you, those whom we serve, so that you can get to know us better and misunderstandings can be cleared up.
First off, I'm keeping this message closed so that only staff can post in here. The reason is because I don't want this to become a slam site rules or to question past staff actions...which would violate rules and we'd have to give out warnings for that. So, instead of baiting you into anything like that, we'll keep this closed and it will be used as information for you. Please understand this. If you do have questions or concerns, we'd love for you to PM us and we'll do our best to handle things! We are here to help you, our forum and to help out the site as a whole.
Ok, I'll go first with my introduction and then our other moderators can pipe in at any time.
OH and before I continue, I do want to let you know that we're working hard on getting some Lutheran guys trained so that staff is not just all female! Woo Hoo!
My name is Kathy. I am 41, married since 1990 and we have a 14 year old daughter and a 6 year old mini-schnauzer dog. I live in Northwest Indiana and am an artist. I sing in the church choir, play handbells, and am in a flute choir. I am an advisor to 3 Girl Scouts and am helping them earn their Silver Award. I love doing charity work and helping people out.
Next, I'd like to direct you to the rules. You can find the list of rules here:
http://christianforums.com/faq.php?faq=rules#faq_rule_0
There are some site rules that are difficult to moderate. Flaming can be one of them. It's one of the things that I have the most difficult time personally in determining if something is actually a flame and I do rely on what others have to say. Some times I have even been convinced to change my opinion...so I'm not stuck in my ways or anything :D
Please, consider how you word things...would you ever say what you've typed to Jesus directly?
One of the rules that the site owner has listed that is similar to the pre-777 rules is this:
Reasonable confidentiality will be respected by Staff and Members, alike.
Issues with staff decisions should be taken to the staff member, then the reconciliation team, period. Don't post them, don't PM them to others, don't take them to Lee.This one, you will really need to follow carefully. Please, do as the rules request and come to one of us first (if the problem is in TCL), and then go to a Reconciliation member if need be. Don't voice concern about staff or decisions in the open. Biblically we are to take our problem we have with someone directly to that person...and that is what the rule kind of tells you to do...take it to that staff member first.
Postings that violate the above rule will be deleted. It's not because we're bad guys and it's not because we really want to hide anything. It's because of what the site owner wants.
If the site owner finds staff not doing their job, they CAN be removed and other people put in place. If that happens, there is no guarantee that those new staff members would be Lutheran. It's very difficult to moderate a forum if you don't understand what they believe and where they come from...I speak from experience on that!
I do want to congratulate you all on being a very good forum to moderate! We have it easy here most of the time....so THANK YOU! Your fruits have been noticed.
Addendum:
Ok, there was something else I wanted to add and forgot until now.
There may be some questions about how reports are worked and I doubt this is confidential information, so I'll let you in on what goes on after we receive a PM that a Report has been made.
First, we go to the actual report and read who it is about and what was posted. Scanning down we see if the one who reported it gave a rule violation (always helpful!), and there are links to the actual thread and the reported person's profile. Sometimes if we do not know the person, we check a history to see if this is something the person does continually. But, we know most of you :)
When working a report, the TCL moderators work as a team to come to a consensus on first if there is a violation and secondly if some type of action is needed. No one moderator gets to be bossy as we work together! Sometimes the hardest part is figuring out if a basic PM for requesting for edit is to be made or if a warning (with no points) should be given. Warnings these days aren't like the ones of old...it's a way to keep track of who keeps violating the rules as a log file is kept. But I know that warnings are sometimes taken very personally, so please don't think that if we give you a warning that we're out to get you! We're most likely just being gracious in not giving you an infraction.
I think that's mostly what I wanted you to know about reports. We go in, determine if a rule was violated and then determine if action should be taken and wait for a response after that from the member.
Melethiel reminded me to add also that each forum of the Christian Forums has its own team of moderators who might not work the same way that the TCL moderators do. We all try to be as fair as possible though! It's just that some moderators have different ideas for their forums, so some might be more strict than us or more liberal...and we also all have our personalities that come in to play as well!
