What are your New Years Eve plans?

We do the same thing (because it's relaxing) every year...rent movies and order pizza!

I friend has invited me over for a party they are throwing. Not going to be a wild and crazy party but more laid back (ie, the parties I actually enjoy) so might be going there.

I haven't been to a new years eve party in over 25 years and am too old for all that anyway :priest: but me and the Mrs. will probably rent a couple movies and be in bed before midnight. It seems all but impossible for me to sleep in and I deffinitly need my beauty rest ;)

Wishing you all another year of God's grace and love :)

I usually am home, (I had my overabundance of parties in my life). :)

But not this year. :)
A friend of mine who just got married (about 4 months ago) invited me to his new home in Pensylvania (about 85 miles from me).

It looks like I am driving off this Monday morning and coming back Tuesday evening.

Otherwise I'm like Jim, DaRev and ctay - not exactly party animals.

Me either, I dislike them for the most part. I'll probably sit home lol

But a laid back event with friends could be a nice change lol

I have to go and debug my in-law's computer. It has somewhere around 617+ virus' and counting (not to mention keystroke loggers and other such spyware, mostly from yahoo games). I keep telling them that the problem is windoze. Any Linux system with opera or Firefox and OpenOffice with the AntiWord package will more than serve thier needs. Oh well, its new years.

My parents usually have a get-together. We hate to make the drive though because there are some many drunk people out driving! We'll probably stay at home.

Toff-

I much prefer linux myself, only problem is that I like a lot of programs (mainly games) which are not compatible. Less there are adapters I don't know about lol.

No special plans. We might go to my in-laws after our late Christmas at my brother-in-law's today. Other than that, we might take down the Christmas tree, but I usually do that on New Year's Day.

Our local minor league hockey team always plays on 12-31, so it has become our tradition to take the whole family out for that.

By the way. I could not figure out the talking dog pictures in your "nerd" thread. Too small. Could you just slap them on on the post?

Thanks, :)

This is certainly a very original way of celebrating a New Year.

Hope they win ... or at least tie. :)

Hubby and I are having a few friends over to our home, after church. One friend we invited can't come because he lives too far away.
There will only be 5 or 6 of us....a nice amount, I think. :)
God bless our New Year in Him.

Well, our plans have slightly changed. My husband is really sick from either the flu or a flu-like virus. ugh. So, I'm ordering pizza but not the kind HE usually likes since he probably won't be eating any ;) And I'm not renting videos since my daughter got some for Christmas I'll just watch. I prefer family-kid movies anyway :)

So, I'll be on and offline all evening! Not much else to do.

We are heading off to worship, then back home for reading (mystery novel and some Lutheran theology ;) ).

We have not gone to a New Year's Eve party for almost 25 years. On vicarage they had a well-attended party on New Year's Eve. But as Jim noted, "I'm too old for that kind of thing." :D

Blessings to each of you.

I've been trying to go to bed, but I have a nasty case of indigestion and right on cue I'm having Braxton-Hicks contractions. And since I'm STILL not sure about the difference after three kids, I have to get up and time the BH to make sure they're not regular contractions.

I can't wait to get my induction scheduled. I only have indigestion and heartburn issues when I'm pregnant.

But Happy New Year to everyone! We celebrated in a hail of gunfire. Okay, not exactly, but there was gunfire and fire crackers as usual. Poor dog was scared stiff and went and hid behind a recliner in our back room.

It's intriguing that most of the folks who posted on this question were staying home. I suppose that it makes sense that people who spend a lot of time on internet forums may be introverts. There has been a lot of talk over the past two decades or so about the role of personality types in determining so much. I am wondering about the role of personality on theological and political perspectives. Could introverts tend (note I said tend) toward more conservative perspectives? And to answer the question. We did not stay home. We had a great party at our church, which included all kinds of dancing. It was great fun.

Yeah, mine too.

Being 7 1/2 months pregnant and under a winter storm warning does tend to hamper new year's eve plans a little.

But an introvert? Not me, no sirree. I had many plans to consider but again, I'm pregnant and it was going to snow A LOT last night.

Detroit didn't get hit too hard (downtown recorded only 4") but the surrounding areas got hit pretty hard. Brighton, which is slightly east of us about 50 miles got nearly 12" or so.

Sounds like a good thing you stayed home, PW! Take care of you and that baby.

We have had nearly 30" of snow in our part of WI this winter......hellooooo out there....anyone hear me in this snowdrift? :help:

We didn't get much snow down here in SE lower Mich,, only about 1-2 inches, but it did get a lot colder from what it was yesterday. My son and I were out all day yesterday afternoon shooting muzzleloader rifles. We had a great time together. Then last night we watched the old movie BenHur, except the las 15-20 minutes was distorted and unwatchable. I saw the movie when it first came out but remembered only the charriot race.

We got about 4 inches and big drifts last night :( I'm concerned because I have to drive 40 minutes to go pick up my daughter from a sleepover! ack.

Introvert?. Interesting idea but I don't know if I agree with that as a blanket statement. I'm comfortable in my own skin and have many hobbies and activities to keep me busy. Self esteem has a lot to do with it. Some people can't be alone with themselves so therefore crave the presence of people. Other people have self confidences that doesn't need validation from other people. I don't need to be overtly sociable to feel "fulfilled". Although I don't have vast amounts of friends the ones that I do have are very close. My closest friend is God so who else do I really need. My conservatism comes form the comfort of God's grace and mercy to me and not from being an introvert. Other people's reasoning for being on here?------I don't really know.

I don't know either. But I wonder about the role of personality orientation in determining many things in our lives.

Well of course it does. That's basic human psychology right there.

But saying that people who spend time on an internet forum are introverts is factually incorrect. There are many people that I know of who spend time on forums who are certain not introverts. I happen to be one of them.

Part of my "social" life is spending time here. It might be "just the internet" but I have friends here who are as real as the friends that I have outside of the computer.

I don't think that whether one is shy or outgoing would contribute to their religious leanings. I know many outgoing people who are conservative Christians. I also know many introverted people who are liberal Christians.

My wife, kids and I spent the night with my mother at her house playing cards and marble games. We saw the New Year come in with Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark (he's getting old and his stroke makes him sound like a drunk) Some fireworks went off across the street and so we had a safe and joyous new year. This morning I went to breakfast at IHOP with my best friend from High School. Now to get to the sermon writing for this Sunday.

You didn't get all that snow we got, Scott???

I just got back from picking up my daughter who was at a sleepover...the roads in Gary were NOT plowed and it was scary (scary anyway driving through that city!) but the roads in Hobart, Indiana were immaculate.

Well I don't know about Fort Wayne because I am in Minnesota right now. Lots of snow here already.
We are heading back to the Fort on Thursday with a pitstop in Milwaukee to see my sister and then arrive in FW on Friday.

Ba da bump. (Okay, humor me and pretend that there's a drum set in my office!)

Kathy, we drive through Gary on our way to Germantown a lot, and we always sing the Gary, Indiana song while we're going through. Of course, this is AFTER we've changed the vents in the car to recycle air rather than use "fresh" air!! ^_^

I have a 14 month old (see him on the computer up above???) and a hubby who's a Police Officer and worked 3rd shift on New Year's Eve.

Soooo.... I put in our Sesame Street DVD and we watched Elmo "interview" people all over the world to find out how people celebrate the New Year. At the end of the DVD they throw a beach ball in the air for their "ball drop".

The DVD is undated, so we can wach it every year until he is too old for Sesame Street.

We watched it at 7:30, so the "New Year" started at 8:30 pm when the video was over and the little guy went to bed. Then I amused myself by playing games online and turned on Dick Clark at midnight and went to bed. My hubby called at midnight to wish me a happy new year.

Yup, I am a REAL party animal.

When I was young and single, I'd put on a fancy ball gown and go to a gala or something. LOL.

But this year, I shared my New Year's Eve with my favorite little guy in the whole world. And nothing is better than seeing him giggle and spin around in circles and make funny faces when he falls down.
