Pretty simple rules. Ask the person above you a question. Don't ask anything inappropriate, and every poster has the right to pass the question if they don't wish to answer. :)

What was the favorite present you gave to someone this Christmas and why?

Breaking Babylon

I got my brother this game for PS2 that he had really been wanting, and he gave me a hug and a CD in return. Imagine that, a hug from a 16 year old brother. :)

How has sidearm training been going? You should be a snapshot by now!

Akathist
29th December 2007, 11:18 PM
I am doing very well with my training. I am not a "snapshot" (do you mean "sharpshooter"?) yet. I am working on drawing and moving right now.

The competitions I start in April involve a course of shooting where you first run to a spot behind "cover" (cardboard), shoot at a specific set of targets, move and shoot at one or two more to new "cover" then go for another set of targets. Sometimes you have to get down low and shoot through an opening in the "cover".

Then in some situations they have cardboard mazes to go through. It is not just how accurate it is also how fast.

So I am working on getting my cardio fitness up, and learning how to quickly draw and get aim, then move. I struggle with my speed in reloading and that is often part of the drill in a competition too.

It is so cold that I will not be doing much training over the winter and only one indoor place I know will let me train as I need to. It is very convenient to my church so I could practice on Saturday afternoon before vespers. But it is very inconvenient for my trainer to meet me there.

Question to SS: Of all the household chores you do, which one do you most dislike doing?

So now, who has a question to ask me?

Breaking Babylon
30th December 2007, 12:39 AM
The chore I dislike most is probably vacuuming. It's not that it's hard, but the noise annoys me. I like washing dishes believe it or not.

SS: what does your username mean?

Breaking Babylon
30th December 2007, 12:56 AM
It means Sacred Silence, and the monk in my avatar is a reflection of that name. Saint Isaac the Syrian said that "words are a tool of this world, but silence is a mystery of the age to come." He also said, roughly, that holy wisdom dwells in a heart that's silent, as the dolphin stirs in the calm sea, so divine wisdom stirs in a silent heart.

I like to remember silence. The name helps. :)

Where did Chocolatesa come from? What's the inspiration for that?

Chocolatesa

Ah, thought that's what it meant. I stuck chocolate onto the first two letters of my first name cause I used to work in a chocolate shop and I love chocolate.

I'm really deep into Bioshock at the moment and I also play Oblivion, Titan Quest Gold and Warcraft III on PC. I don't own any consoles right now but I do have a DS and I'm loving Final Fantasy III and Age of Empires while I'm learning Spanish with My Spanish Coach.

At the moment I am on my second run through on a game called dungeon siege 2 which is really really cool, it an rpg style game kind of like diablo but better. I am also playing battlefield 2 and wishing I had a computer that could play supreme commander and the expansion.

I love Dr Who!

Tom Baker (1974–1981) was by far the best, but the new Doctor, David Tennant, is ok, too. Christopher Eccleston was OK too.

Did you watch the old episodes too? What do you think of the current series? I think they pulled it off magnificently.

I'd like to live within 50 miles of an Orthodox monastery. Other than that, preferable with a mild summer climate and light snow in the winter.

Where would your dream vacation be?

-Kyriaki-
2nd January 2008, 11:13 AM
Somewhere nice and quiet in the mountains with lots of food and no people except the ones I took with me.

As far as the Doctor Who questions - love watching the old series, especially to laugh at the sets and special effects. My sister is a mad Doctor Who geek (like...seriously....it's scary...) so I know more trivia than is good for me. We have daleks and tardis-es (tardisii?) all through our house, and pictures of John Simm and David Tennant all over her walls. Occasionally they creep out into our space, but we fight them back into her room again.

Her boyfriend learned to knit primarily for the purpose of knitting a Doctor Who scarf. Which he did. I'm now trying to get him to knit a dalek, like I did (fun project)

About the only I thing I really care for from Starbucks are the coffee based Frappacinos, as long as they break up the ice well and I'm not stuck with huge chunks of ice. Other than that I don't really care one way or the other about them. I don't go there often though just because I cannot justify to myself to frequently buy drinks from them for their prices.

Some of the coffees I like, not all. It's a once-a-year treat for me, though. I'd rather make my own frappacinos, and such, but my machine broke. :(

Ice cream... Mmm, I'm trying to severly reduce how much of that I eat. But anything with peanut butter. Ben and Jerry's peanut butter cup in peanut butter ice cream is just heavenly. But any peanut butter ice cream is a fav. of mine, followed by cookies and cream and/or choc. chip cookie dough (only certain brands though are a favorite for both of those)

I like Theophany service :) lots, the Supplication of Theotokos... and many more....

What cross are you wearing? Describe it please...

-Kyriaki-
4th January 2008, 11:20 PM
My protestant baptismal cross - it doesn't count as a baptismal cross, really ;) but that's what it was given to me as. It was given to me by my grandparents, my sister has an identical one.

It's gold and about an inch long, and flat, quite thin, with engraving on it. In the centre where the arms cross over is a five petalled rose (a variation on Luther's rose, for the five wounds of Christ), and then from there out to the ends of each of the lengths is a vine for Christ the true vine.

It's very pretty and I like it a lot, I'll miss it when I get baptised for real and get a new one - though I'm sure I'll like the new one too. I keep toying with the idea of 'giving' it to my godfather so he can 'give' it back :P

Philothei
5th January 2008, 12:58 AM
Oh... you can do that ... You can give it to your God parent to give it to you on your baptism. I know some that did that....it is no problem it does not have to be new. I had my grantmother's cross when I got baptized (and still do) as a baby. She was my God mother.

I usually chant Great Vespers on Saturday and sometimes Sunday matins. As such, I usually chant along during the liturgy. Everyone at my parish is encouraged to do so as well.
