Hi, I need some technological help and I only post here and in the Parenting forums. There seems to be some computer savvy Orthodox faithful in here, so I thought I'd seek some help in here.

Is it at all possible to use the webcam that came with my laptop to record video like I would use a video camera?? How? I've spent the last hour trying to figure it out. I thought I had it down (I used QuickPlay to record) but when I went to Windows Media Player to view the video, there was no sound (just video) and it was moving fast (like a fast forward on a VCR).

Any help is appreciated.

I can't help you as I never was able to get a webcam to work very well. But this request is about to slip to page 2 so I am posting in it.

You need a special program to record videos. I'm not familiar with QuickPlay, but you could use VIDCAP (I think it is already installed in Windows - if not, install ACE Mega Codecs Pack) or AMCAP (I've got this one with the webcam). To record sound, you need a microphone. Look in C:\Windows if you can't find them.
In AMCAP you can go to Devices menu and select the video source device and the audio source device.

QuickPlay should work the same. Your most likely problems might be:
- you don't have a microphone installed;
- you had installed a microphone, but it was turned off;
- you had to select the audio source device, but you didn't.

I use Adobe Premiere (Pro or Elements). There are also some freeware programs that might work, just google freeware webcam video capture. With any of that it's pretty much just point and click record. Window's Movie Maker, which comes with Windows, might work but I don't know.
