He's been out of work for the better part of a year now and it is taking it's toll. He seems to be having a crisis of faith, and I have never seen him like this before.
He has had 3 heart attacks in the last couple of years and has lost 2 jobs because he was out for stent surgery. As soon as a prospective employer finds out about his health problems they withdraw their offer.
Unfortunately without any medical insurance or income he can't afford his medication. He has been off of it for over a month. I've offered to let mom and dad stay with us if they want to come down here and look for work, but unfortunately neither my sister or I can afford to offer much financial support.
He needs a job very soon.

I'm sorry to hear the struggles your dad is going through, cobweb. What a terrible position to be in. Lord, have mercy. :crosseo:

My father spent the last 15 years of his life unemployed. I think he felt pretty powerless and depressed. He always seemed to have a little money, and lived with a woman who owned her own house and he was companion and handyman. He died of a heart attack 2 years ago.
All that's just to say that I sympathize with you, cobweb. I'll pray. :crosseo:

I can sympthize with the struggles to find work, though the health problems certainly add another difficult dimension to it all. :( At least with you though they know they will have a home if it comes down to that, though. I take it he's not old enough for Social Security? What about SSI?

He's 51 years old.
I've tried to talk him into SSI, but he is terrified to be without health insurance for that long. He really does want to work for as long as he is able to do so. There is the whole problem of feeling like he would be a drain on the system if he went that route. He's stubborn and never been one to take handouts.
Mom tried to get them some sort of temporary help with his perscriptions and apparently there is a waiting list for everything.

If he's paid taxes all his life, this system is in place exactly FOR people like him. It's people who are lazy and stay on it generation after generation that are the "drain" on it. I hope he either changes his mind or finds a good job.
