Rather odd query...anyone know of anywhere in the metro-DC area that sells Orthodox stuff...books mainly (I'm thinking other than the kiosks at church). I have no problem ordering stuff online but sometimes I just like to browse and flip through books in real life.

Probably a long-shot...but I hope someone can come up with something.

There is a bookstore that is run by a small Catholic community, but the name and location escapes me (it's fairly close to the Metro, but it's been a while since I've been so I don't remember which line). They were on the fence on going Catholic or Orthodox I believe and fell to the Catholic side. However, they carry a fair share of Orthodox books, icons (Orthodox style), incense, CDs etc. They are very nice and I found some things there I couldn't find anywhere else.
Hopefully someone else knows the name... I know Michael the Iconographer has ordered books from there if my memory doesn't fail me...

You might want to try Icon and Book Service (http://www.iconbook.org/). I've never been there, but I have heard people talk about it.

Borders actually something to offer. Usually the Philokalia, Bishop Kallistos (Timothy) Ware's books, Frederica Matthew Green's, Fr Henry Patrick Reardon's, some collections of pre-schism church fathers can be found within Roman Catholic sections (just avoid correlations to certain doctrines like purgatory etc.), I believe I have seen paperback editions from St Validimir's Seminary press (which include writings of Chrysostom, Basil the Great, St. Gregory etc.).

Yes...it was the icon and book service. i could spend a lot of money in that place. as it was i blew through $70 right quick.

I purchased Lossky's Orthodox Theology: An Introduction and The Mystical Theology of the Eastern Church and a service book of the Divine Liturgy as well as The All-Night Vigil for Choir and Laity.

Very pleased.

[eta] it is run by the ukranian catholic church. there were a great many books in the theology section that were decidely orthodox plus a varitiey of eastern catholic stuff.

Hmm, look like an interesting place, though I'm not sure I'll ever get over there. I never go to that part of DC and I can't see myself making that trip just for a single store. Oh well, it does look interesting though.

That is a great little bookstore. I've been a few times and it's well worth the trip.
