hehe.... wonderful!! I love the look on his face after the peanut butter and chocolate.

Here is our new kitten we rescued from the pound last Thursday.

His name is Simon the Dozer. We just call him Simon. He's four months old and very much an imp.

I love them at that age when a sudden movement makes them jump and they find a wiggling toe or string so intriguing.

He is quickly bored with strings and toes.... is now attempting to dismantle the house. :D

Melania, Simon is adorable! Ah, how I miss the days when I wasn't allergic to cats!! I'd have 4 of them if I weren't!! Ugh.

Try one of these. We have a friend that breeds these. They are called Sphynx.

This is Benedict on St. Nicholas Day (in our church tradition, gift giving is only done on St. Nicholas' feast day). As is typical, the ribbons and shiny paper were the most interesting to him.:D

I will have to wait until my sister sends copies of the pics she took of me and her and the kids. lol And then I'll load them and post them, but it won't be until next week!! I don't get home until, God willing, this coming Sunday afternoon.

Benedict looks sooo cute! :D

Melania, uh....no thanks on the hairless/furless kitties. Yes, I've seen them, but ugh....LOL

Hahaha! Oh that makes me miss having a cat. My last cat I named Bast because of her presence. I should have named her parrot since she loved to climb up on my shoulder and perch there meowing.

Sphynx still have dander and spit (another allergen for a lot of people). :) But they are great to snuggle with at night if you are chilly. Those buggers are sooo warm since you feel their skin directly.
Aria, no they can't be cold (many wear little sweaters) or in the sunlight without sunscreen. Many also get very oily so you have to bathe them often or they'll get acne.

Poster and Grand... wonderful little ones... :) Enjoy them now they grow fast....

I love your cat Melania, the one from the pound... I do not like sphynx... sorry but.... I would never be able to live with a cat like that all wringled up.

God bless,
Philothei

My friend makes sweaters for hers. Also, lots of flannel blankets around the house for them. I'm sure they do not do well in the cold.

You can wash these cats often with a warm cloth, and baths, so are very easy to remove the spit and any dander that may occur. They are still very good for people with allergies.

Now the biologist in me wants to know:

If you crossed a sphynx with a regular cat, would the cat have fur or only patches of fur?
Those cats give me the willies.

I'm not too fond of the Sphynx cats. Their skin looks like a leather handbag. Still, I love furry cats. I understand now that they need fur to cover up the folds of skin and look aesthetically pleasing.

I wonder if this is yet another breeding experiment gone awry.

They have these cute British dogs with all those folds of skin and I have been told that the breed must be born by cesearian section. That people would go to this extend to derive a breed is beyond imagination.

I guess this cat is going to be bred for its folds just like that dog. How ugly can a cat get? And how helpless! These breeding experiments are not humane. What if a cat like that escapes into the wild. They will not last at all as they can get scratched by thorny trees, burnt by the sun's rays, yet become cold if they do not sunbathe, become frost-bitten in the chill air, develop acne infections if they do not bathe, and have other problems. Finally what cat really likes bathing?

Saint Melania

Well, to answer the questions... as best as I can, since I am not a breeder of Sphynx.

Sphynx were actually naturally occurring and a litter of them were found in Canada. They have been bred to have different skin textures. The best ones feel like rubber. My two cats came from my friend's cattery, which breed at least two different types of Sphynx, the rubbery feel type, and another type that is a little more regular skinned, and feels like soft down on a child's cheek.

This is a Sphynx-bred pair of brothers, who I got from my friend, the breeder. They got the throw-back hair, as you can see!

Brothers in real life, only different litters.

Sphynx kittens from my friend's cattery. She also shows them.

One advantage to Sphynx, they cannot hack up a hairball! ^_^ I like that idea. One of my Persians hacked up two hairballs, one in each of my husband's slippers, which he found the hard way. :D

That would be fine, but hubby would never use one. :) Fortunately, this has not happened since. We no longer have a Persian, but we do have Calvin, a longhaired cat. He just hasn't thought of it, yet.

Umm, no, I don't think I have ever seen a Sphynx with whiskers, even.

Do you have two gray and white striped cats now?

Linus is creamy yellow with the red tips on the back. He has a few beige colored (faintly colored) stripes on his legs.

We have Calvin (the big 16 lb. cat) with longhair that is a black smoke.

Simon is from the pound, and shorthair grey tabby. He is also called a tiger stripe. He's four-months-old.
