View Full Version : Interpreting dreams

The other night, I had a very real vivid dream that I feel may have been inspired by God. I have heard that God can speak to us through dreams, but I thought that interpreting dreams was something that was forbidden...sort of like spiritualists or something like that. Does anyone know what the Church teaches on this?

I think we bring life's experiences and thought patters in our dreams...I also think God uses dreams and if we have one that really sticks with us or is repeated I see no reason to ask our Abba about it then be still to hear any impressions..I would be careful to not just analyze every dream with someomes books/ideas..Be sensitive to the Spirit always with everything... Shalom..Kim

That is wonderful advice...thank you. To be honest with you, sometimes I have a difficult time discerning the "voice" of God. I am still trying to learn to "hear" Him...

I think you are right, though that I should not seek out a lot of books on dream interpretations and such...but, I do believe this dream is somehow important...I will pray about it!

Hi St. Therese

You will find him here.

By the way, The Holy Spirit seems to be urging me to say to all of you that Abbott David has a school for Charismatic Spiritual Directors. If anyone feels called by the Lord to this very awesome ministry.

I also see that the Abbott is doing a retreat here in May.

I don't think you're the only Christian who has dreams given by God (actually I know you're not). So I think if we try to figure them out, it's not a sin---apparently God DOES want to figure out what He's trying to tell us. But I would do my best to review what Scripture says and see if my dream can relate to that. I hold in my heart that Scripture and Tradition teach us everything we need to know---so our dreams won't add anything drastically new to those teachings but reaffirm them.

StTherese,

I used to receive alot of dreams that helped me grow in personal holiness. I think tht many of our dreams are God given, showing us the state of our souls.

NOt all dreams are of course directly inspired by God. At least that is what I remember from one scripture reading I once read.

But some are also. Let me recount a dream that helped me so much once.

I dreamt that I was inside of a small church in some old old country. And it was so awesome that I found myself near the altar with Angels there along with me. they were praising God so much and so beautifully. Well we were just praising HIm and I don't know exactly what happened after that but I think we started floating up to God somehow. I can't explain it but this made me really want to praise God.

It led me to want to go to mass and worship Jesus with all of my heart. Even now as I think about it again, I remember the experience of it, and it is having the same effect on me.

I hope that your dreams lead you closer and closer to God StTherese.
