I hope the company itself recognizes the problem and takes steps to distinguish its product a little better... I can definitely see the risk this poses if, like the police officer suggested, cocaine dealers begin to use the packs themselves to hide their drugs and it falls into the wrong hands...

i remember when those little pieces of gum came out that looked like ciggarettes.
Did it ever influence a single kid to smoke? Probably no. It was the actual smokers in their circle of family/friends.
But does it make this "candy" any less appalling? no.
just my 2 cents.

I remember those and I also remember sucking up pretend smoke out of them too. It was good that they pulled them off the market. Hopefully, they will do the same with this new packaged candy.

I don't think this is going to influence kids to try cocaine necessarily. But, it will cause problems for many, many people who will be unjustly searched for posession of candy, IMHO (just like the officer suggested).
And, it will cause problems if these little packages ARE used by drug dealers and a child familiar with the candy get a hold of it and eats it... That could be truly disastrous.
As I said, I hope the company itself realizes that it could be a problem and makes changes to the product and/or pulls it off the market...
As for candy cigarettes -- they still sell them by me. I didn't start smoking due to the candy (I didn't really like the candy), I did start smoking in an effort to "fit in" with my friends who had all started smoking. I don't think this falls under the same category as candy cigarettes though. They're not worried about kids starting cocaine or crack by eating the candy. The issues they are discussing don't have anything to do with that...

That's not a fair comparison, ST. It's not even close to the same issue... No-one mentioned a BAN on anything. I merely stated that I hoped the company itself would take steps to prevent what could end up being a costly mistake given how our society is prone to blaming everything on everyone and suing them over it.
