I saw this op in another congregational forum and thought i'd try it out here.

Do you carry a gun at church?

Figured it would be a good question with all the shootings going on at christian centers recently.

I have a CCW license and do carry a Glock 23 .40 caliber pistol. I have never carried it inside a church though. It just doesn't seem right. I may leave my gun in the car though, but as of yet have never brought it out of the house when I am going to church. It just seems wrong. I'd probably be okay with wearing body armor though. LOL

I'm not exactly involved with a church for the time being (haven't found one that I can trust), and even then, and even if I had a permit, I don't think I would. If I get a gun at any point in the future, it stays in my house, or in my car (provided I get one of those, too).

I know how to use a gun, but do not have one. I would be uncomfortable carrying it in church.

I am a pastor and do not carry one into church. I have several, however.

I would, if a credable threat was pointed at our church or someone in our congregation very likely carry one.

No doubt some would disagree with my position. Well, I know this; if there was a threat aimed at my congregation and a crazy walked in and shot up the childrens ministry and I had not been prepared to stop a pre-given threat, I could not live with my self. And if you think that could never happen, ask the Amish about it.

Or a quicker way: if you think it wouldn't happen, watch the news. It seems like at the very least, every other day something like that is being reported now.

I don't carry one to church - but I would have no problem carrying one into church.

I also don't carry one when I go out jogging (which makes me vulnerable) or to run my errands around town...

If I carried my gun regularly, I'd have no problem at church. :)

Kevlar. I don't know how the full armor of God would respond to a hollow-point bullet headed in by direction. They haven't been able to test that one yet. Kevlar has been tested and proven quite effective. Plus, my desire to buy a Kevlar vest could be from God as His way of letting me know how I can protect myself. :)

*licks pen tip*

**Note to Santa: My friend Zec wants a Kevlar vest for church.

thank you.
(ps. Santa, we know Zec is mostly 'naughty', but could you give it to him anyways?).

I don't see how it's biased as the OP never put any limitations on the question. He put a very general question out there. You live in the UK and the UK has laws that prevent the citizenry from arming themselves. So your answer to the question of the OP would have to be "no, I don't carry a gun to church." Why the accusations of bias on the part of the OP? Seems rather derailing to the thread.

Naughty? What'd I do now? You paying attention Santa? Nadiine is lying about me. Naughty girls tell lies, guess you'll have to take her halo and put her on the naughty list. LOL

I don't, but at least a couple of members at our church do and I am thankful they are willing and able to do so. If this violent climate continues I would consider getting a CWP and carrying.

in my truck in the parkinglot...yes

I don't have a cc permit, and don't want one.

Most folks around here wouldn't bat an eye.

Would I? Yes, given a valid threat...which I think is coming down the road for all of us before too long.

The full amour of God IS Kevlar in Spiritual warfare...you're quite right a Kevlar vest is good protection against a hollow point...

I think...bullet proof vest, your glock and the Sword of the Spirit...brother you will be ready for anything...;)

LOL

Another reason I don't carry a gun in church is because I think it would make the other members of the congregation uncomfortable. Alot of the people we have here in the winter are snowbirds from places like MN and WI, where people walking around with guns is an exception rather than the rule, like it is in AZ. They might freak. LOL But since we are Lutherans, and not prone to showing any emotion whatsoever, they'd probably just quiety leave the church never to return. LOL Or they'd just beat me with a Lutefisk. LOL

I don't carry a gun to church because people like Jeanne Assam are asked to carry a gun to church, and do. My gun is in my car. I can get to it if I have to. I pray I never have to. But I've prayed often that no church would have to endure the likes of Matthew Murray. There is a great deal of forgiveness and prayer out here in Colorado Springs for Matthew, his family, and his victims, and a great deal of praise for people like Jeanne Assam. All are appropriate prayers. Also appropriate is prayer for the aftermath, the fear, the pain, the questions. I've helped a lot with that this week, and I will be helping a lot with that in the weeks to come.

Keep praying. We can use it. Also, though many have decried the need for guns in church -- including some on these forums -- let me remind you, a seriously ill young man armed better than most platoons in the Green Zone had already killed two people and wounded three others when he came through the doors, and all that stood between him and 700+ people still lingering in the rotunda of New Life Church wondering what was going on, was Jeanne Assam. Matthew was only three or four seconds from making it to that rotunda when Jeanne confronted him. He had over 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

Question for you: What would have happened if Jeanne wasn't there with a gun?

Nah I don't have a gun but if I did I would want to carry it everywhere.
