View Full Version : Do We Leak????

What a title for a thread, eh?
Well it is a good topic for discussion here in Catholic Charismatic and a good one for our non-Catholic brothers and sisters to join in on.
When God fills us with his Holy Spirit, does he fill us to the top and running over or only part way?
We receive the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation and Receive the Holy Spirit, right? (This question for the Catholic members of the crowd).
Then we go through Baptism of the Holy Spirit and we get prayed over to Receive the Holy Spirit again. Then we get prayed over when we have a need, are sick or just for refreshment and we get prayed over to receive the Holy Spirit again.
What happens? Do we leak? You know what I mean?
If God never does anything part way, aren't we filled completely the first time?
Maybe we stretch.
What do you all think about this?
Good discussion...no debate.
This question bugs me, how bout Y'All?

Hmmm,
Good question Peaceful. It makes me remember something that always used to happen to me after Holy communion. I would be so full of teh presence and peace of God and then like just less than an hour later, I would get back to acting in the same ol un-chrisitan way of teh "old man" and not the new man. It was a struggle to walk with the Lord for me early on.
Well, it;s funny because I heard this analogy that was given through some spiritual reading that said that after we receive God within us (and you can understand this in terms of the Holy Spirit as well), we are like a glass that has been filled up. Then as we walk in the world, if we are not careful, some gets spilled! E-gads. WEll after I read that, I would really try to walk with patience and endurance in our Lord Jesus after I had received Him within.
I believe that the same goes for when we are prayed over for the in-filling of the Holy Spirit.
What do you think about that?
peace be with you all in Jesus

I don't know if "we leak," but God can do anything that He wants at any given time. This is something that happened to me several years ago, quite unexpectedly. I, as well as my entire family love Japanese food, and we frequent a popular take-out restaurant in a local mall on a regular basis. One time, when I was there to order some food for take-out, I noticed a new girl (about 20 years old), behind the counter, who took my order. Right away, I noticed that she would not give me direct eye contact, but instead took my order with her head bowed down and looking away from me. Immediately, I received these words from the Lord, "she has suffered much from emotional abuse". I thought to myself, wow, you can see that from the look in her eyes, then I stepped away from the counter to wait for them to cook my food. From a distance of about 20 feet, I then happened to look in the direction of this same Japanese girl who had taken my order, and we both made eye contact. Immediately, I was filled with the Love of the Lord, and experienced complete total joy, love, peace and happiness as I have never experienced before in my life, which saturated my total body, soul and mind, to the point of overflowing. In fact, that is just what happened next, as I felt a tremendous "power" emit from my chest and travel to the Japanese girl, as though we were both "frozen in time" while at the same time, hearing a sound "like a strong driving wind". This lasted for what seemed like a long time, but I'm not sure, because, I lost all understanding of everything else that was going on around us. Then as suddenly as it started, this experience stopped, and everything was normal as before, except for one thing; this Japanese girl had a big smile on her face, and I could see that the Lord had totally transformed her. I left the mall with my food order in amazement, not fully comprehending what the Lord had done. Sometime later, while in prayer, the Lord spoke to me and explained to me that what I had experienced was His "Healing Love", which had filled me to the brim and then poured out of me to that girl and healed her. I believe that I had actually experienced a "taste" of what heaven is like, and how it is to be "filled" with the Love of the Lord, when we are present with Him for all of eternity. Afterwards, this experience gave me a more "complete" understanding of the first Pentecost, when the apostles were "filled" with the Holy Spirit, at the same time, hearing a sound "like a strong driving wind". All praise, honor and glory to you heavenly Father, forever, and ever ! AMEN !

WOW!!!
What an awesome testimony!
Maybe that is part of it. Maybe we do share the Holy Spirit in some way with others.
It reminds me of when the woman with the hemmorage touched the hem of our Lords garment. He felt power go out of him. I don't have the scripture before me but he it was that power leaving him that made him aware of the woman touching him.
You surely didn't sound like you needed refilling after as the gift of the Word of Knowledge or Word of Wisdom seemed to be operating in you.
You are right, God will surely do things His way, The Holy Spirit will Blow as He Will.
Amen.
Thank you for sharing that.

The awesome thing about this miraculous healing is the fact that the girl who was healed was a total and complete stranger to me; I didn't even know her name, or even if she was a Christian. The Lord saw that this girl had suffered much and out of compassion just healed her. To this day, I continue to remember this young girl in my prayers. Praise the Lord !

Wwo hawko, that is an inspirational story. the Lord odes work wonders, and many tht are beyond our current understanding of what He does do. That you for offering this to the forum today.
It reminds me of something that happened with a friend and myself. Actually it wasn't miraculous like what you shared but for some reason, after a long long (maybe 2 years) I am remembering this.
My friend who has been a pentecostal for all of his life(about 60 years) and I used to have a mcdonald's dinner together every so often. hehehe I now kinda funny so far... but it was cool. And so we would always go to this certain mceedee's. ;) there was this young lady in maybe her early 20's who we someohow felt called to tell about the Lord! So one night, as we were sitting there discussing faith, she was cleaning up near us. And so we starting to talk to her about her samll talk and then the conversation led to God. Well it turns out that she was going through a very rough time in her life, going throuhg a big move and ever career change. She was feeling so overwhelmed by all of this. So, ya know, we started to tell her about Jesus and what He can do to help someone. She litened and thanks be to God, I believe that we helped her to come closer to the Lord that night. I can't remember if we gave her a bible but I think that we did.
Well praise the Lord! and thank you brother for helping me to remember this.
peace be with you on this, the Lord's glorious Day.
oh and P.S. how does this relate to leaking? Well I guess I want to say that we should let the Spirit flow out of us to others!!! :-) Although... that kind of leaking causes us to be filled up ourselves as well. We don't lose a thing.

Thank you for sharing your story also. It goes to show you how important it is to pay attention to the Holy Spirit when He lays some message upon our hearts to be shared. This reminds me of another event which happened many years ago when I was first "born again". I had a good friend of mine named Paul who was a fallen away Catholic. The Lord opened the door for me to be able to share with him about what Christ had done in my life. As the conversation progressed, I invited Paul to attend a charismatic prayer meeting with me at our church. After the prayer meeting, we were talking and I asked him what he thought of the prayer meeting, and he replied, "It would have been better if I didn't have this pounding headache".I asked him if he had taken anything for it and he said that he had, but the pain medicine wasn't doing any good. Just then, the Lord spoke to me saying,"pray over him". So I explained to him how the Lord can do anything, and that He could even heal his headache. So I laid my hands on Paul's head and began to pray, feeling the anointing of the Holy Spirit in my hands while I was praying. After I was done praying, I asked Paul if he felt anything, and he said: "Yeah, I felt this heat come down from the top of my head and as it went down my neck, it took away the stiffness that I had in my neck, then as it went down past my shoulder, the pain in my shoulder was removed, then as it passed down my torso, my stomach felt better, then when it went past my knee, the pain in my knee was gone". So, then I asked Paul, "but is your headache gone?", and Paul replied YES !

This is one of my favorite subjects!
As a non-denominational Protestant I believe God fills us full, "to the top", when we became born again christians. He gives us 100% what we are ever going to need. Now what He gives us is hidden inside the new spirit we have but there are several ways we can draw this out.
First and foremost, we draw this out by renewing our minds to the new spirit that is now within us. We do this by reading the word of God and learning who we are now that we are in Christ. We also do this by prayer and asking God for revelation. For us Charismatics we pray in the spirit.
The leaking we do is the good part. What we have now is eternal life and this eternal life is like a well within us that leaks out of us. This is what Jesus was talking about in John 4:14.
With this new spirit we start to leak those things of the spirit. As we continue to renew our minds to our born again spirit, that leak becomes a flow! You can always spot a mature Christian because the evidence of eternal life isn't just leaking from them, it's flowing out!!!

Oh this was wonderful. And, my spirit seems to confirm this. I think this may be part of the answer I was looking for. Only part though because God never stops revealing Himself or His ways to us.
This is where the stretching comes in. As we absorb one thing, we make room for more.
God is HUGE, we just can't see but a portion of Him at a time.
At least, that is what I think.
You all are sharing some big God stuff here.

We have to stay away from self. We need to keep our focus on him in everything we do. We tend to limit God's spirit working through us by our fleshly natures and our inability to stay focused on that which is good. It is not that we aren't full to the running over of abundance but it is that we seal ourselves with barriers that we ourselves erect. Let Christ lead. It kind of runs true with the scripture that says if you hear his voice harden not your heart.:crossrc:

 As I was reading this thread, I thought of the part in the Bible when Jesus says...""Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
The way I interpret this, He's talking about the Holy Spirit...and if it's a 'spring of water'..then doesn't that mean that it would flow out of us? I don't know, lol..what do you guys think? :) maybe I'm interpreting this incorrectly...but that's the first thing I thought of.
I don't think the Holy Spirit is something that's meant to be contained within us..it's something that flows out of us freely to heal a broken world.

With great respect to the discussion already underway, which is more true of the term “living Water” Yes the Holy Spirit flows through us like “Living Waters”.
I honor the testimonies presented here but I wish to direct my post at the OTHER possibility of the term LEAKING in the original posted question.
Consider the definition of the word “leak”
1. To permit the escape, entry, or passage of something through a breach or flaw: rusted pipes that were beginning to leak; a boat leaking at the seams.
2. To escape or pass through a breach or flaw: helium leaking slowly from the balloon.
3. Informal To become publicly known through a breach of secrecy: The news has leaked.
v.
1. To permit (a substance) to escape or pass through a breach or flaw: a damaged reactor leaking radioactivity into the atmosphere.
2. Informal To disclose without authorization or official sanction: leaked classified information to a reporter.
n.
1. A crack or flaw that permits something to escape from or enter a container or conduit: fixed the leak in the roof.
2.
a. The act or instance of leaking.
b. An amount leaked: equipment used in cleaning up oil leaks.
Overall, the reference to a “leak” is not considered a good thing.
While, I grant the truth that The Holy Spirit fills us with everything we need and would ever need to fulfill His purpose in us, our humanity while here on earth is still subject to the fallen nature of man. Being filled with the Spirit gives us the tools with which to overcome the fallen nature but does not necessarily transform us without our making a conscious effort to change, to grow in virtue and overcome our human weaknesses, struggleing with hard work. Even after baptism in the Holy Spirit, many souls are still struggling against the flesh with ups and downs that sometimes take hard work for the rest of their lives on earth. Many souls benefit from seeking constant renewal. Often the danger they face is temptation and a lack of spiritual discipline. They may fall to low and even into serious sin, that the Holy Spirit no longer can work through them.
The good news is that reconciliation and renewal of the Spirit can and should be an ongoing thing. For, if a man/woman felt that he/or she had failed, they could become so despondent and therefore become victims to the temptation of evil to inflict harm on themselves by falling permanently away from the sacraments and even worse, harm themselves if they felt they had fallen away from God.
A dark night of the soul can be a disturbing experience even for the most spiritual persons and yet they should know that while they are weak, no real leak has taken place….renewal is for the asking and should be sought after as often as necessary.

Leaking yes. I have found that if I do stop opening holes up within me by sin, then Jesus stays put. But His Holy Spirit flees from sin.
We might stop leaking if only we would stop choosing other things and sin over God.
May the Lord have mercy on me and on us all.

I like to think of it as when you buy a new car and the gas tank is full, and you drive off the lot and start life in a new car. eventually you will need to fill up your gas tank again. Paul commanded Timothy to stir the gift within you. We all sometimes forget who we truely are and who we have inside of us in the course of daily life.

A presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us can not actually be defined in a quantity. There is no such thing. The Holy Spirit is a person.
Surely His presence in us has some variance in how much influence He has in us according to our experience, acceptance and response to Him.
Of course there is nothing lacking in the grace we receive from His presence, however each of us are individually different in our spiritual growth, different in our maturity in the spirit, and different in our advancement at learning how to put off the sinful nature in order to accept more and more of the input of the Holy Spirit.

Dear Springrain,
Happy New year my sister.
You are so right in what you said.
You helped me to remember that God loves us infinately. He could not love us more no matter what we ever do. God already loves us completely.
His embrace is what changes us to become loving people. I have found that when I know that He loves me, I just am healed.
Like the other day on the feast of the Holy Family, I experienced something from Him that made me believe so strongly that He has accepted me into His Holy Family.
From that, I have felt alot of love for Him. I know that Jesus loves us so much. More than I can even realize at times. (all the time actually)
Sorry Springrain, I went off on a tangent! When you said that the Holy Spirit is a person, I just was blessed. Then these thoughts came to me.
I believe that there is a connection to what you posted.

Dear Flame,
I wish every soul could experience that moment of LOVE that can pass between a soul and Our Lord by way of His Holy Spirit.
We have been speaking here in this thread of whether our soul "leaks" when there is also another human term that is far more profound when speaking of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit I call it "bursting" which I will call the opposit of leaking. Yes "bursting", a strange way to describe the ecstacy of spending time in the presence of Our Lord. I use this word "bursting" because the Joy of this meeting of the soul with Our Lord so consumes the soul that the human body can hardly contain it....it is as if one would "burst".
It is no wonder that the soul longs for this union for there is no experience on this earth that can compare.

The Holy Spirit doesnt leak out, but the power and the anointing we walk in does. Presence will always remain, the power level/anointing we walk in is what changes.
