Let me make a comparison of the attitude of Jesus with those who are committed to a religious denomination, priests, pastors, ministers and so on. Forcing people to follow their rules, norms of each denomination.
In the next reading, we learned about the great faith of a Roman Centurion, who was not Jewish or religious, however, accept Jesus cured and healed the servant Centurion praising his great faith, Jesus is not imposed any conditions or obligation as making any kind of oblation or sacrifice as did the Jews,

But now those who claim to be servants of the many Christian denominations, require people what Jesus never demanded or requested, such as, religious celebrations, offerings, impositions, tithes, and other things.

Given that the FE is a gift of God, the question is, why God gave him the Centurion so wonderful and powerful grace move mountains?.

The answer could be found in the same reading.

MATTHEW 8

5 4 (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/matthew/matthew8.htm#foot4) When he entered Capernaum, 5 (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/matthew/matthew8.htm#foot5) a centurion approached him and appealed to him,6 saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully."7 He said to him, "I will come and cure him."8 The centurion said in reply, 6 (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/matthew/matthew8.htm#foot6) "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.9 For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel 7 (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/matthew/matthew8.htm#foot7) have I found such faith.11 I say to you, 8 (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/matthew/matthew8.htm#foot8) many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven,12 but the children of the kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you." And at that very hour (his) servant was healed.

Amen.

Until 6th grade I went to a methodist church, but never really experienced God. After we moved, I attended a Friends/Quaker church through High School, which is where I founded a lot of my beliefs.

A month ago my wife and I found a church we're finally at home with. She's already a Baptist, so she could become a member of the church without any "hassle." But I struggled. I love the church, but their doctrine and process of becoming a member just didn't jive with me. I researched it, prayed about it, knowing full well that if I went through the process, it'd be because I felt I was forced to do it. The previous churches we had attended had put such a stress on being a member that I felt it was just Texas customs that you should be a member of the church.

Finally one Sunday morning my wife and I were debating it, and we went to church without resolving it. After church, we were being greeted (it was only our second week) and this sweet older lady came up to me and started asking me questions.

As if an answer from God, she asked me if I was Baptist. I said, "No, I'm non-denominational. I grew up Methodist then Quaker, but I now don't really associate with any denomination. I don't really agree with all of the doctrine, but we love it here."

She replied, "Oh that's just like my husband. He grew up all over the charts but he loves this church also." She went on to say how she's a member, but he's not, and it's not a big deal.

Anyways, Great post :)

We use to get spankings when we went to church because we were not following their rules, did you as well?

May I ask who would spank you? Also, can you give an example of what they considered an infraction of their rules? Was this as a child or adult?

I was talking about the church that forced our whole family to follow their rules and norms. Mom and dad use to get spanked too. You mean your church doesn't spank you? How else do they force you to follow their rules and norms?

Yes, but then I realized by the grace of God that the real and unique rules and norms, are in the Gospel, are perfect because they are rules of love.

Never confuse Jesus/God/faith with "religion".

I thought you were talking about a literal spanking. :D

Doh, VG!

Anyhoo, no, my church doesn't "spank" me for not following their rules. Generally I am not opposed to rules as long as they don't break Biblical mandates and are not of a legalistic nature.

To the OP: I apologize for taking your thread off track.

Ok, I confess, I've never been in a church that's FORCED me to follow their norms and rules. Well, I was in a group like that once, but I call it work.
