Yeah! Praise God!
I made the second post!!!:D

On a day like today, a house warming party is a very good idea. Perhaps we should wait for a few more people to post and then say a pray of protection over the forum and of thanks? Otherwise Peaceful Dove, if you want, you can start it now...

My last post was at the SCRC (www.scrc.org (http://www.scrc.org) ) Catholic Charismatic Conference in Anaheim, California. That is my Prayer Community when I lived in Southern California (up until 1990) and still is, in fact.
This conference is held every Labor Day weekend and has had up to 15,000 Charismatic Catholics attending.

I just wanted to post it because it was at this Conference that I first lifted up Prayer, for a Catholic Charismatic Forum in an Ecumenical setting. That was about 7 years ago.

Behold He Comes, Riding on a cloud, Out of Zion's hills, Salvation comes!!!

When I lived in So Cal, I was an hour away from the beach, and hour away from the desert, an hour away from Los Angeles, and an hour away from the mountains, where there was snow and skiing in the winter. You could go skiing one day and surfing the next. I never surfed, but a buddy of mine did just that. He went snowboarding one day, and the next day he went to the beach and went surfing. It was crazy. hehe

It snowed here last year or the year before, I forget. It was crazy. It even snowed a bit where I grew up. My parents said streets and highways were shut down from it, and the snow wasn't even a quarter of an inch and melted away before noon. Talk about unequipped to handle it and overreacting. ^_^

Potentially, yes. But the day he went snowboarding, the temperature was in the 40's-50's in the mountains. There had been enough snow (and fake snow) to allow for the snowboarding still. The next day was warmer, in the 70's at the beach.

What can I say, he was crazy, and I told him as much. :D

Yep, that's what happend before too, by noon everything was gone. My wife and I were sort of smiling about how some of the people reacted to it. They looked at it like they were afraid of it or something.

And if I'm not mistaken, LA was under freeze warnings and citys and towns all over the state were hurrying to provide temporary shelters for the homeless. A little bit of snow and 32 degrees and the state was perpareing for a major desaster...

Before moving to No Cal, I lived in an area that, in the summer, was anywhere from 110-120 degrees. For three years before I was married, I rented a room of a house with a bunch of other guys, and there was no central air conditioning. I'd have five fans just blowing hot air around. Needless to say, I often would go to our church cafe (about a mile away) with my laptop, just to get out of the heat.

Hi Redheadedstepchild, please take no offense to this but I have and never will understand why southern people celebrate Christmas with a snow theme>

When I lived in California my wife and I thought it hilarious how people would put that pretend frost on thier windows and blow up snowman on their lawn, but as soon as you suggest to them about how fun it is to play in the snow they do a 180 on you and say "I hate snow" similiar to what JAS and J4Jesus said earlier.

Ok, so I'm reading these new posts, see you with an avatar with Snoppy laying on his dog house while it's snowing, and your character is standing in front of a big stone fireplace, the kind you will only find in a ski chalet and at the same time your from SC and asking what this snow is all about :D

No no! if fact Jesus said during His entry into Jerusalem "If these people stop praising me, the stones will cry out!"

However, don't get us wrong bro,

We charismatic catholics are sure to be reverent during mass. There are times for singing welcome, singing repentance, singing thanksgiving, singing honor, all in the mass. Each should truly be filled with the right depth and feeling, from the heart.

In the Charismatic renewal, we try to become open to what the Lord is saying, whether it be time to be silent and prayerful (which mass is at many points) or whether it is a time to sing to Jesus "I love you Lord."

By the way, Catholic Flame and I were both at that Conference. We met on line because we were both at a School for Healing Prayer there.
It seems to me that Fr. Rick is familiar with it too.

But believe it or not there are conferences like that one all over the world and even the Pope has celebrated Charismatic Mass, just like that at Youth Conferences and in Rome.

Neph, I think this might help you to understand why I prayed so hard for this sub-forum.
I spent a lot of time in GT where many folks have no idea about the width and breadth of the Catholic Church. They have no idea that since the 1960s we are having Revival or what we call Renewal. It slowed down for awhile, I think just so we could catch our breath but now we are experiencing a huge, fresh wave of the Holy Spirit over the Church again.
As an example, this week our Charismatic Prayer Group was invited to help with the music at the Midnight Christmas Mass.
My husband started (his ministry)stuffing bulletins just over a year ago. At that time he was stuffing 300 bulletins. Right now he is stuffing 700, just at our Parish and we are running out.
I notice many in Spirit Filled talk about Bethel Assemblies of God in Redding, CA. We are also in Redding and it is really fun to see folks from Bethel joining us at our First Friday Charismatic Masses.
A few years ago, we would have had to import a Priest from out of town to Celebrate these Masses, and we have Priests from 3 local Parishes in the rotation joining us and waving their arms Praising the Lord, singing in tongues right along with us. One is a young Fillipino newly ordained guy and our own Pastor is a widower who became a Priest well into middle age. Oh in fact one of the neighboring Priests who comes here from Weaverville and has a huge Charismatic music ministry and healing team is also a widower, wife died of cancer. I am guessing he is just a bit younger than me.
You are right, it is reaching all age groups.
We are in the Process of praying up a huge group of kids who are having Youth 2000 up here a very Spirit Filled Youth Retreat.

I think it is important that the entire Church, Catholics and non-Catholics together are praying for Gods move across this old world.
Jesus said, "Father let them be one as I am in you and you are in me, SO THAT THE WORLD WILL KNOW THAT YOU SENT ME"

With Islam being the fastest growing religions in the world, that message is for now. Not when we think we are ready.

Hi Redheadedstepchild, please take no offense to this but I have and never will understand why southern people celebrate Christmas with a snow theme.

What's up with that? ^_^
You guys are killing me over here!

Yeah, yeah, yeah...

I personally LOVE snow, though I never get to see it. I would be the first one out there rolling around in it. Yes, snow is GOOD.

I have never participated in the whole fake snow thing. Meh, why bother? Nope, I'll wait for the real thing, TYVM!^_^

Now then, it does in fact get cold in the South, and we do have fireplaces which we use. It just never seems to get cold and wet at the same time. Oh well.

And as for Snoopy, I wanted a Charlie Brown avatar for Christmas. I really wanted Linus talking about the birth of Christ, but that's pretty specific, so I got CB with his tree that just needs a little love. I could get all philosophic and say the snow in the pic represents hope...hmmm that actually sounds good. I'll go with that! :)

Hey there Neph,

Well we catholics sometimes like to be very solemn in our prayers, that is so true.

And then at times, we just want to shout our praises to the Lord!

I think that both are needed.

Honor and praise to our Lord.

Amen!

Dear Redheadedstepchild, I could get all philosophic and say the snow in the pic represents hope...hmmm that actually sounds good. I'll go with that! Do you know if there anything actually written about Snow as a symbol of HOPE?

Ive always had this strong connection with snowflakes meaning something profound to me. I wanted that as my username but the forum had some snowflakes on their members list so I switched to Spring Rain...aha a melted snowflake.

Anyway...there are so many of these symbols in nature, if we take timeto apreciate speak to our hearts.

I think I have 6-8 inches of that lovely stuff right now. Glad you like it too.

Bless you

Can I give them away? Like Blessings.
I don't get this Blessing thing. The more Blessings I give away, the more that seems to pile up.
How does this work?

You can't do anything with reps, really. When you give reps to others, you don't lose your own reps. It is sort of a way of giving someone approval for their posts. :)

Blessings, on the other hand, can be saved, given, spent, and so on. ;)

Really? You can see it?

Would you share what you are seeing?

I am so exhausted that all I seem to be able to do is pray and say Thank you.

I am not witnessing the Fruits yet but you say you are.
Please share them if you can.

oooh, Why would anyone want to save a Blessing?
It is sort of like Love, you need to give it as well as receive it.

The number of threads started in the short amount of time. The people that have come in here to fellowship and voice their support. These are all blessings that I see from my perspective. Since I'm not here on a regular basis, I see the growth every time I visit. Since you're here more regularly, it may be harder for you to see. :)

I thougth this might be a good time to bring this thread back up.
We were thanking God for a Catholic Charismatic Renewal Forum.

I think we need to do that again. Are we getting away from the Renewal already?

We were so excited when this first happened. Let's try continue Praising the Lord for what He has done for us.

Maybe we need to start some more Charismatic Threads.

I know what you mean about loving something you don't get much of. I absolutely love snow but, alas, it is a long drive from where I live. I loved going sledding as a child.

Well, i used to love sledding too. Then i got older and had to drive through it.

Almost lost my foot from frostbite, and 2 years ago now i hit black ice and nearly had a fatal accident. :crossrc:

Its just not so much fun anymore when you are forced to deal with it. :D

Altho my kids love to sled in it, they cant get enough of it when we get piles of it.:o

I was born and raised in Southern California. The closest I came to snow was on a Christmas card. I was nearly 60 years old and had never seen snow fall down.

In 1996 we went to Spokane for a job. The first time it really snowed, I was on the freeway going to work and hit some ice (I didn't see). My car spun in a complete circle and just continued on. I nearly died from the shakes. When I got to work, I parked in the parking lot, stepped out of the car and went flying. My shoes flew clear across the parking lot. I hit my head and blacked out. No one saw me. When I got my senses, my stockings were torn to pieces, my knees were all bloody, my shoulder ached and I could hardly walk. I got to work and they looked at me and sent me back alone to see a doctor. I had broken my foot. The doctor also treated me for a torn rotator cuff. A little over a year later I found out my shoulder was dislocated. It had never really healed in spite of therapy. The chiropractor had to adjust it and put it back in the socket. I have never felt anything so painful.

I hate snow in person. I am now loving it only on Christmas cards. I am too old to learn to like it now.
I also dislike wind and fog. Love rain. Love sunshine much more.
