Isa 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Isa 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
Isa 58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
Isa 58:9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
Isa 58:10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
Isa 58:11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
Isa 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

When people think of fasting they think of praying and not eating, but overlook this fast the Lord God gave us in Isaiah 58..... do you or your church uphold this fast? Mine does.... but I know alot of churches that want nothing ot do with whats mentioned in this chapter..., and deny it...

We/I do not.

When you say this was given to "us", it was given to the Jews while under the law.

We however are free to make choose how to worship as long as we are being obedient to the Holy Spirit & Christ indwelling in us.

If you are compelled to fast I certainly don't hold it against you, however I myself see no reason to pick this out and decide it applies to Christians.

Sorry for the short answer, but time it tight...

I agree with you... I didnt mean you had to do it... .But I do know that just because its in the old testament that it doesnt apply is false.... Do we uphold the ten commandments? of course..... People use the saying, its in the old testament, it doesnt apply to us... I disagree.....

Maybe I'm not understanding Isa 58 correctly, but I always thought of it as a spiritual fast that is not optional, that every regenerated person would choose this fast every day - in other words, simply living like a Christian should and obeying God's commands out of thankfulness.
