:liturgy::amen::bow::priest: Greetings fellow Orthodox Christians!
I am new to these forums and as such I would like to introduce myself, my name is Peter I live in Vancouver, BC, and I worship at St. George's Coptic Orthodox Church, I am very interested in my religion and much theology and religious philosophy as well.
I was wondering if anyone here could post some of the best Nativity hymnal traditions each from his own Orthodox Church. I think the Orthodox Church is blessed to be enriched by so many different cultural traditions, and since I was working on an upcoming presentation for my Church on the Mystery of the Incarnation I was wondering if people were willing to send me links or post them here or send me the files via E-mail @ . Contact me via PM to get my email address! So I'd like to hear a vast variety of traditions including Armenian, Ethiopian, Syriac, Indian, Byzantine, Russian, Bulgarian, Ukranian, or any others would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time guys
God Bless

I didn't answer because I wasn't 100% sure what you meant - do you mean traditions, or do you mean just traditions as they relate to hymnography?

Do you mean hymns which are sung during the Nativity liturgies?

I mean Nativity Hymns that are part of the traditions of the many Orthodox churches. So they do not have to necessarily be part of the actual Liturgy, they can be part of the Matins service or the Vespers Service and so forth.

Wow, thanks! The music style looks amazing and i'm happy i can view the service now. I was a little down knowing that my Church won't be having the nativity service in English.

Sorry for the long time that took me to reply.
There are many Romanian hymns that are sung when Christmas is aproaching.
The night before the Christmas night is called "Noaptea de Ajun" - The Night Of The Day Before (Christmas).
In my home village groups of children gather and go to the houses of their neighbors shouting "Good Morning!". They are given round pretzels, called "covrigi", apples, money and other goodies.
In other parts of the country the people sing "Buna dimineata la Mos Ajun" - Good Morning To Mos Ajun, where, in this case, Mos Ajun is the brother of Mos Craciun, also known as Santa Claus.

The following evening people sing other hymns like:
"O, ce veste minunata" - Oh, How Wonderful News:

"Florile dalbe" - The White Flowers

"Afara ninge linistit" - It's Snowing Calmly Outside

ma2000,
Good choices (my favourite's Trei pastori) I can't listen to them here because I'm at work, but I'll definitely have a look when I get home.

Anymore? I am also interested in Hymnal Texts so that I can translate these hymns for the presentation. Also, if there are any Hymns you guys know from some of the Eastern Churches like Syriac, Indian, or Ethiopic, or even Armenian it would be great...thanks.
