I got this invitation through LinkedIn earlier today, and was startled by my button choices. It seems there is something nefarious going on here. I have blanked out a bunch of stuff in order to keep some things private.http://www.holy-icons.com/graphics/invite.jpg
Or I suppose it could just be a case where they should rewrite their program in order to allow one more letter to display on the button.

Um, I don't get it...

The middle button on the bottom says "I don't know Christ..." because it automatically makes a button that says I don't know (person's name) but apparently cuts it short at 6 letters, so instead of "I don't know Christopher" you get "I don't know Christ...) I found it a bit disturbing, but also from the standpoint of how things are programmed, it was an odd quirk.

seems you have to click the button to answer your question, which is disturbing too :(

LinkedIn is a networking site for professionals. I rarely use it, but got this notice today.

I was wondering is Christopher an iconographer by any chance?

Not that I know of. it's someone that I knew when I was a little kid. I guess he's a deacon now, but I don't think he's an iconographer.

So you are try to make something out of the fact that the name "Christopher" is to long for the button, and therefore automatically was shortened to Christ... because the max amount of characters is used?
I don't get the big deal..If the person who invited you was named Theofilis it would say Theofi....? etc..

Apparently my sense of humor is completely different than some others here. I just thought it was odd, and was sharing it. If I realized that I would have to explain it, I would have kept it to myself. Sorry if I offended anyone, it was just my weird sense of humor.

Just because some of us did not "get it" it does not mean it was not funny... most of the time I do not get jokes... :)

Don't worry, some folks around here have NO sense of humor. But then every comedy act needs a good straight man!! ;)

Is that site any good? I have had several friends and colleagues suggest I register for an account.

I couldn't really tell you. I signed up for it because my sister and my dad were both on it and sent me an invitation to join. I have never really made use of it. I think it is more geared toward business professionals, which is something that I'm not.

Well, it's good to know because I was about to go crazy wanting to point out that it would be really funny to get an invite from someone named Diddlybop.

Jokes are not easily picked up on over an internet forum without the obvious emoticons, LOL or :-).

That may be true, but I have always had a strong dislike for emoticons and netspeak. I don't really mind when people say that they LOLed at something they read (although, i still think it should be LedOL, but that's a different story) but to put LOL into something that I'm writing seems far too much like a comedian laughing at his own joke (which I think makes anything less funny), or like a flashing applause sign telling people to laugh at what I just wrote because it is funny. As for emoticons, I really only use them when I'm being sarcastic and run the risk of insulting someone without using them. I know that people say that they these things are necessary in order to communicate effectively over the internet, but I don't think that that is entirely true. While it might be true in the case of a lurker reading a post from someone they don't know or a person posting for the first time, I think that most of the time people ought to know each other well enough to know when something is a joke, or when something is dead serious. I've never really relied on people's emoticons on here, because I can read their personalities based on other things they've posted. I can start throwing in emoticons if there is a serious problem with people misinterpreting me (although that would require me to learn some shortcuts for them since I usually don't use the Advanced Posting screen) but just so everyone knows, most of the time I'm joking.

Just to add something to repentant's comment about using the emoticon or lol, the original post could have been a serious one by a poster in a Christian forum. By that I mean, when I initially read your post, you didn't read that much into it where it is obvious that you are joking. The way you stated it without using lol or a smilie was something that I have come to accept from many Christians who claim that there is demonic activity in nearly everything. Not that I am saying you are that way but since I'm fairly new here, I am one of those people that don't know you well enough to read your posts in light of your e-personality.
Did my ramble make any sense?

Yes, it did make sense. That's kind of how I took it and was a bit confused because nutroll is usually so rational. I was thinking this kind of "demons everwhair!" reaction was totally out of character for him.
Then I got thinking that if the person sending it was named Diddlybop it would have been really funny and realized it was a joke.
