To use these features put a tick in the box next to the post number at the top right hand corner of the post
Merge Posts
(Not recommended)
Newest post takes priority over the older one and all other posts merge thereby lose date notation and the author's ID
There is no copy left and the action cannot be undone.
Therefore use with caution.
Would recommended it only be used to merge posts from the same poster
Move Posts
Takes a single post from one thread
Useful when a post is off topic and deserves to be an OP in its own thread
There are two choices: to either
Place a tick in the box beside the post # of the post you want to move.
Choose 'Move' from the list and hit 'go'
In the next page, make sure the top radio button is selected (it is there by default)
And choose the destination forum from the list - hit 'move post(s)'
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/movepost1-1.jpg
right click on the number of the OP in the destination thread and copy the url but only copy to as far as the amphisand (&)
So it should look like
http://foru.ms/showpost.php?p=32575315
rather than
http://foru.ms/showpost.php?p=32575315&postcount=1
back with the post to be moved, select the post as before choose 'Move' from the list and hit 'go'
In the next page, make sure the bottom radio button is selected
Paste the url in the box
It will tell you at the bottom how many posts are being moved
Hit 'move post(s)'
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/movepost2.jpg?t=1188345863
Copy Posts
need to copy the post to somewhere so define the destination beforehand
Put tick in box by post number
choose copy and hit 'go'
You get the same options as in Move
Delete Posts
use when posts are deemed violations or when the poster wants it removed
Place tick in box beside post number
Go to tool and choose 'Delete'
Deletions are, by default, soft, so deleted messages will always be left for staff view only
Be sure to enter the reason for deletion which is most often 'flame', 'spam' etc., though it can also be 'contains quotes of or references to a deleted post'.
Hit delete
The delete bar looks like this, displaying the reason for the deletion and the mod who carried it out.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/deletedpostbar.jpg
Undelete Posts
undoes the Delete feature
click on "Manage" in the Delete bar. This will take you to the "Manage dialogue box"

Here you will also see the user history of actions taken on this thread.
Approve Posts
undoes the Unapprove Posts feature
Unapprove Posts
Takes the post out of public view
The word 'Moderated' appears beside the thread title and a muted icon in the topic list to the right
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/moderatedbar.jpg
It will be visible to staff but with a blue background and a muted icon
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/moddedpost.jpg
But the OP will not be blue
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/modicon.jpg
Approve Attachments
undoes the Unapprove Attachments feature
Unapprove Attachments
When images are added to a post as thumbnails, these are called attachments

Chatbox
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/chatbox-1.jpg
Trainees can act in CB if they spot a troll.
Check their profile in the usual way by clicking in their name.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/CBprofile.jpg
You get the usual ID list but only with option to report or view profile.
To Eban, go to the members profile and click on the top option which will take your through the ModCP but with the member's name already installed.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/banfeatureinprofile.jpg
To copy, mouse sweep over the comment, right click copy then paste in report thread which will be in the Support Teams reports.
As generator of the report, you will get a pm confirming it and will be able to click on the report link in that.
Procedure:
verify post count - trolls are most commonly defined as having <100 posts though this is not always so. Occasionally you can get a member having a bad day or a temper about something, or just being plain ornery!
copy troll's comment
report comment
paste comment in report thread
post "trainee is going to eban troll"
eban troll permanently
if troll has >100 posts, then eban for 24-48 hours
CB mods will take it from there.Ebanning permanently removes all that member's posts. If there are >100 posts, this causes problems for the system which is why a permament eban is not applied. Staff have to go through all the member's posts and delete the bad ones manually.

Working Reports
reports should be dealt with as soon as possible
the first mod to get to the report should assess the situation
decide if immediate action is required (e.g. banning a troll or closing a bad thread) if this be the case, a note such as ‘on it’ should be left in the report to inform colleagues
otherwise make an initial assessment, document it and wait for further input
please ensure that all reports are eventually closed
inspect 'find all posts'
Tagging reports
Edit the report in the Thread Tools and choose the appropriate post icon from the 2 rows on the edit options

Find all posts
via the pop-up menu from clicking on the member's name in their post
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/findallposts2.jpg
or going to "View Public Profile"
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/viewprofile.jpg
which offers you an alternative "Find all posts"

which looks like this
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/viewallposts3.jpg
so you can click on the hyper linked text (marked in red) and get to the post itself.
However, you can often get a good idea of the thread content from the precise given underneath.
Merging Reports
Merging reports should not be done.
The member's posts are anonymised and it will throw any discussions into disarray
Definition of Violations
some rules are specific (e.g. profanity or obscenity but most are a matter of degree.)
some violations such as spam, are not that clearly defined and must be decided by consensus.
all reports are discussed and acted upon by consensus.
Consensus Decisions
the associated posts in the thread should be read carefully to ascertain if there is more than one culprit in the incident. However, the report will focus on the reported post only. If others posts are found to be implicated, they should be reported and dealt with separately.
wait for colleagues to contribute other points of view and for discussion to reach a conclusion
input from a minimum of three staffers should be the norm excluding comments of a mod from another team
better to wait for a consensus than take hasty action which might result in ill-feeling; some delay is not going to be catastrophic unless it is a matter of obscenity or trolls
remember to always be generous with your grace when deciding on issues.
if it is at all possible to take a softer action, then do so.Moderator Action Triggers
Unanimity: If three moderators review a report and agree on an action (below), and there are no dissenting opinions from other moderators, the third moderator should do the action.
Consensus: If there are dissenting opinions, there should be at least four opinions, and there needs to be two more of one opinion than the others to form a consensus before action can be taken. For instance, if there are four mod opinions it needs to be 3:1 to act. Five moderators would need 4:1 (3:2 would not be enough for consensus).
Senior staff determination: If consensus cannot be found by this method, a supermod or Team Leader can make a final determination among options. This option, however, is a last resort. Ideally, the team will continue discussing until consensus is found.
Timeline: Reports can be actioned for two weeks from the time of report. If consensus cannot be found in that time, chances are that the alleged violation is not grievous enough to action, and should be deemed NV and closed.
Ebans
mods can carry out ebans
note that ebans are useful for such as trolls because they remove all the posts made by that person.
therefore, only individuals with a post count of <100 posts can be classified as trolls because removing more than 100 posts messes up the boardProcedure:
go to modcp and log in
enter member’s name and search- choose ‘ban’ and then in the new window select ‘eban’ - select duration from the drop down menu below
click on ‘ban user’
you have many options from 1 day to permanent.
the period will have been part of the decision made in the report
generally trolls are permanently ebanned whilst a matter of egregious behaviour would have been decided in the report discussion
log out
Normal Bans
Only supervisors and above can action normal bans
Forum Specific Bans
Sometimes a member who has been the cause of much argument and/or the subject of many reports (that may not have been actioned but are considered to have been 'pushing the envelope) may be given a time out of their 'home forum'. In this case, the staff member will pm them with an instruction that they are being put on trust not to post in this forum for a specific amount of time or they will get warnings or infractions. Infractions are usually the rule. The FSB is logged in a thread in Staff Team HQ sticky FSB List - (Forum Specific Bans) (http://foru.ms/t1151555)
The pm might go something like this:
Dear .......
We are concerned that your behaviour of late has been rather heated and argumentative. Though you have not had any warnings thus far, it is the opinion of the team that a short time out of the forum might give you a chance to cool down and reconsider your approach and interaction with others. Therefore you are being given a Forum Specific Ban from .............. forum to commence on (date and time) and to run for (period of time - usually 2-4 weeks). During this period, every post you make in this area will incur a warning or an infraction as per the forum protocols
1. Forum-specific suspensions for short period may be issued against a member at staff discretion if there is a need to promote peace. It will end on (date and time) where after you may recommence activity in the forum. It is hope that after this period of suspension that your activities will no longer be problematic.
This warning can be appealed and you can do this by hitting the 'feedback' button on this pm and following the instructions.
Please get back to me if you have any questions about this ban.
Posting Mod Hats
threads can sometimes get a little heated from time to time and members may be at risk of staff action if the situation is not brought under control. on these occasions it is appropriate to post a mod hat. To do this
go to ‘quick message’ box at bottom of thread
first, put a tick in the box ‘Mod Hat’
then go to advanced mode
type in a message which is friendly and conciliatory rather than official- ensure the text is centrally justified
change the text size to something large - 4 or 5 and a striking colour such as red- post message which will be with a pink background, the picture of a hat and the words “MOD HAT ON” and “MOD HAT OFF”
if you wish to use your own mod hat, go to ‘edit my profile’ where, at the very bottom, you will find a box for mod hat. Enter the url of the image you wish to use and save
also note that it is inappropriate for staff to place a mod hat in a thread where they are current engaged in the debate. If they see the thread getting out of hand, it is better if they contact a colleague to take the action.
Closing threads
The procedure for closing a thread is as follows
a report is raised to provide a forum for staff to discuss the need for the closure and is any other action such as a clean-up is required
when consensus is reached, then the thread is closed and the action taken
this is then logged in the report along with any pms sent
if the closure of temporary, the mod closing it is responsible for revisiting the thread at the appropriate time and taking the appropriate action which should also be logged in the associated reportIf the thread is deemed in need of immediate closure
a report MUST be raised, either from a violating post or the OP, so there is a place for the action to be logged,
an explanation of the of the perceived reason for the action
staff discussion about the future of the threadEditing posts/staff edit/request for edit (RFE)
Members should always be permitted and encouraged to edit their own posts and a Request For Edit be pm'd to them with a copy of the post and the edit required marked on red. Ensure the read-receipt function is turned ON.
If, after 24hrs, the edit has not been carried out, then staff may edit it.
All actions and pms must be copied into the report thread and the action recorded in the ET HQ RFE/FSB log.
On rare occasions, preemptive action may be required. These would include posts covered by the following two rules
2.10 Members will not post obscene, vulgar, racist, sexually explicit, (http://foru.ms/faq.php?faq=rule_2#faq_rule_2_10)
1.12 Reasonable Confidentiality (http://foru.ms/faq.php?faq=rule_1#faq_rule_1_12)
If such action is carried out the following procedure should be carried out
report the original post
if appropriate, anonymise it in the report by editing the name or info revealed with xxxxxxxxxx
edit the original post
pm the member or eban if a 2:10
copy the pm in the report not forgetting to anonymise any reference to revealed names or info.
Deleting or Moderating Posts
except for exceptional circumstances as cited above, posts should only be deleted if absolutely necessary. Make every effort to offer an edit where you can
members will be informed when posts are deleted so make a good explanation when deleting
if it is very flaming, ‘unapprove’ the post which removes it from view until discussion can take place (bottom dialogue box)
note in the report how many other posts have been deleted in the clean upCleaning Threads
Once a post has been designated a flame (or other) and deleted, all posts with quotes of it or direct references to it should be either edited where possible or removed. State the reason as “cleaning thread of quotes of or references to, deleted posts”
Deleting Threads
Threads should only be deleted under extreme circumstances where- the thread topic is the reason for the violation- the op is unredeemable by editing or would have little left in it after editing- there is insufficient material left if all the bad posts are deleted and/or edited- when deleted, a redirection should be left so members can see that the thread has been moved - unless the thread title is obscene or other when a redirect is unacceptable
Moving Threads to Another Forum
When a reported thread is deemed unsuitable for the present forum:
place a Mod Hat announcing “closed for staff review”
determine the best ‘home’ for it
make a thread in that team's HQ asking for a supervisor to inspect the thread to approve the transfer, including any associated reports
discuss and deal appropriately with any violations
make a copy of the thread in the originating forum
make sure any further edits or deletions required by the new team’s FS rules are carried out in the copy
ensure approval/rejection of action is documented in report thread
once approval is received, notify author of thread’s destination giving a link and an explanation for the move
post mod hat in thread stating thread has been moved from ** forum to ** forum
move the copied thread to new forum with link to the old one
document, with link, in the report
if transfer is rejected, take whatever alternative action is deemed appropriate
Documenting Work
all activities in relation to the report including feedback pms and your replies to them must be documented in the report thread. Such paperwork is essential in the event of an appeal
all pms, including your own, should be made into a [ quote = *** ] my post [ /quote ] to fully identify it from your own comments in the post
Feedback from Members[/B]
Most members will want to respond to a delete or staff edit so do not be too hasty in closing a report but a wait of 1-2 days should be sufficient
few members respond kindly to having their threads closed or posts deleted
be prepared for unfavourable responses and always reply in a Christ-like fashion. It does not further the cause if staff respond in kind to an outraged member
if necessary, keep your replies very official and business-like rather than respond in kind
Closing Reports
ensure all correspondence and actions in connection with the report is fully documented
if, after a couple of days, no reply has been received, business can be considered concluded
it is the responsibility of the mod first onto the report to close it with a “closing report” post and then to move it into the Archive (see 3.5 Move Thread (http://foru.ms/t5995432-wiki-moderator-training.html#Move_Thread) )

To use these features put a tick in the box next to the post number at the top right hand corner of the post
Merge Posts
(Not recommended)
Newest post takes priority over the older one and all other posts merge thereby lose date notation and the author's ID
There is no copy left and the action cannot be undone.
Therefore use with caution.
Would recommended it only be used to merge posts from the same poster
Move Posts
Takes a single post from one thread
Useful when a post is off topic and deserves to be an OP in its own thread
There are two choices: to either
Place a tick in the box beside the post # of the post you want to move.
Choose 'Move' from the list and hit 'go'
In the next page, make sure the top radio button is selected (it is there by default)
And choose the destination forum from the list - hit 'move post(s)'
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/movepost1-1.jpg
right click on the number of the OP in the destination thread and copy the url but only copy to as far as the amphisand (&)
So it should look like
http://foru.ms/showpost.php?p=32575315
rather than
http://foru.ms/showpost.php?p=32575315&postcount=1
back with the post to be moved, select the post as before choose 'Move' from the list and hit 'go'
In the next page, make sure the bottom radio button is selected
Paste the url in the box
It will tell you at the bottom how many posts are being moved
Hit 'move post(s)'
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/movepost2.jpg?t=1188345863
Copy Posts
need to copy the post to somewhere so define the destination beforehand
Put tick in box by post number
choose copy and hit 'go'
You get the same options as in Move
Delete Posts
use when posts are deemed violations or when the poster wants it removed
Place tick in box beside post number
Go to tool and choose 'Delete'
Deletions are, by default, soft, so deleted messages will always be left for staff view only
Be sure to enter the reason for deletion which is most often 'flame', 'spam' etc., though it can also be 'contains quotes of or references to a deleted post'.
Hit delete
The delete bar looks like this, displaying the reason for the deletion and the mod who carried it out.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/deletedpostbar.jpg
Undelete Posts
undoes the Delete feature
click on "Manage" in the Delete bar. This will take you to the "Manage dialogue box"

Here you will also see the user history of actions taken on this thread.
Approve Posts
undoes the Unapprove Posts feature
Unapprove Posts
Takes the post out of public view
The word 'Moderated' appears beside the thread title and a muted icon in the topic list to the right
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/moderatedbar.jpg
It will be visible to staff but with a blue background and a muted icon
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/moddedpost.jpg
But the OP will not be blue
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/modicon.jpg
Approve Attachments
undoes the Unapprove Attachments feature
Unapprove Attachments
When images are added to a post as thumbnails, these are called attachments

Edit the report in the Thread Tools and choose the appropriate post icon from the 2 rows on the edit options

which looks like this
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b286/flagady15/Wikki%20trainer/viewallposts3.jpg
so you can click on the hyper linked text (marked in red) and get to the post itself.
