As I've mentioned before, colder weather really seems to drain me. My energy level is really low right now. I was thinking of joining the Y. Mainly for the pool. Anyone ever been a member? Is it worth it?

Expensive?

I almost did. I joined as a program member to enroll my son in their afterschool program.

They closed it due to lack of enrollment.

Right before they closed the pool. The closure of the pool met with community uproar.

Now they are completely closed within one year of cancelling the day care program, and their facility and grounds have been sold to make a mini-mall. I think all the people who joined can go to other "area" Y's but I think the nearest one is ~15 miles away now.

So see how well they are doing before you join, I guess. I know a lot of people like to have the pool.

This one has been around forever.

I guess I could call. I'm thinking swimming in winter might be a help. Just something to look foward to that might make me feel a bit better.

I tend to get very droopy during the winter.

I have been a member of Y for years. To me, Y is probably the most reasonable priced of all fitness programs. Best of all, Y is geared for families while most places do not.

So you like it.

Is it hugely expensive?

We're kinda tight in the finance dept. right now.

They have different plans and they accept monthly payments. I have not been a member of a Y for awhile since we kept moving around. Looks like we will stay in this place until I retire. :D

I will be shopping around because I want a pool so I can swim.

I work at the Y. I love it.
If you didn't already know, the Y offers lots of Scholorships to individuals and families both. The mission statement states that the Y is for ALL people and the vision is not to ever turn anyone away for financial reasons. Definitely pick up a scholorship form if you can.

I considered it, but in the end I had to go with the fitness club that was two blocks from home. Proximity is a big incentive to actually use it, and if you don't use it, it does no good at all.

Our Y is a vital part of the community. We just finished a capital campaign to undertake a major renovation and expansion. Day-care and after school programs will expand and the Y has one of the best summer camp programs around.

So, yeah, we have a family membership and it's well worth it for us. We use the gym and the pool and the kids take swimming and gymnastics classes there.

Couldn't imagine what it would be like without the Y around here.
