The complaint/suggestion box forum? Aside from the obvious purpose in it's name description. What complaints may be offered there? Is it a private forum? The icon says there are new posts er threads for example but I haven't seen any in there so I am assumin they are private. If they are, what's the point in that?

I've got a thread in there, just to test it. (http://foru.ms/t6378422-so-new-and-shiney-.html)

Yeah well if you've got a thread there then it's private. Which.. I jes cain't see the reason for. I maybe could see the need to be private for complaints, but cain't fathom why they'd want to keep suggestions priavte. Seems like more silliness to me. Complaints can be handled privately IF a user wants to through the private appeals. Jes seems like more silliness.....

It's a private forum. Only the person making the complaint or suggestion and upper staff can read the threads. I'm not sure which upper staff are upper enough to read, though. At minimum, probably Blue A's can all read, possibly Green A's too.

An what is the point in that? When is the shear stupidity ever goin to stop wit all this ... stuff? What concievable sense does it make to make suggestions a private forum? I jes don't git it.

What if you just want an answer, without all the kibbitzing of other members in a discussion thread? Some people do post threads where they really don't want any extra discussion - just the answer or the resolution.

We still have the open suggestions forum, too. This is an additional forum, not a replacement or change.

Sure Raven I can understand that, but doesn't it seem rather redundant? An then to make it private on top of it? Puttin that aside for the moment though. Do you know what may be complained bout there? Since this... place... is returnin greatly to the old ways. I'm jes tryin to undersatnd before the dreaded stupidity of "discussin mod action" That was a limb a bunch of folks climbed out on, includin discussin NON-mod action as bein a violation as well. So what can be complained bout there? I jes fail to see the need for it to be private, but since everthins goin back an is becomin secretive agin an the like I spose it jes falls into that as well.

I can think of some hypotheticals, like wanting to complain about a moderator, staff action, or member privately. If someone feels harrassed or stalked, a private forum might feel safer. PMs work, but it's hard to figure who to ask for help, sometimes. Also, a thread format is easier to read than a long PM conversation.

I can only think of 2 or 3 times in my almost 3 years here that I might have used such a forum. In 2 cases I went with PMs. In the 3rd case, I just held my peace and waited to see how things play out. I'm still waiting on that one, actually!

Green A's can see the threads. That much I can see.

Other sites have private suggestion boxes, not a bad idea so long as you have it coupled with an open suggestion box, which we seem to have.

I think the problem is the lack of an announcement and an explanation. I don't remember seeing a sticky in there explaining how the suggestion box works, who sees it, and what a member can expect in terms of a response. That would be helpful.

I agree. I hope an announcement will be coming soon. With different groups working on the technical end and the policy/announcement end, I guess it's hard to keep the changes and the announcements synchronized.

I'll see if I can find out when to expect an announcement.

Letalis pointed me to his announcement thread (http://foru.ms/t6375883). It was there all along.

OK, it it me, or is that announcement NOT showing up in the Announcement forum?

I think the reason I couldn't find it was because it's below all the sticky threads, which at the moment take up over half the first page of the thread index of that forum.
