Here's how I envision it. Each poster puts up one post in the thread, with their post title including their username. (That makes it searchable)
They can then use the post to say something about themselves, post pics, prayer requests or whatever. The thread wouldn't be restricted to just people who consider themselves moderates, but also others who would like to be part of the 'family'.

When they have updates, they can go back and edit their post to include those updates.

Belinda had suggested this awhile back and I think it's a wonderful idea! I would like to get this started now since we've established ourselves a little better and I think we have an idea of who plans to be posting in this forum.

Instructions:

Put your username in the title of your post.
Type up something about yourself and your family so we can get to know you. :)
Include any prayer requests you have.
Post your pic if you feel comfortable doing so.

This thread should be stickied so that we can have easy access to it when we need to make changes/updates to our post.

 Hey y'all!

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/6133/profilepic10966125bq5.jpg

Picture of me taken July of 2006.

My name in real life is Dawn. I'm the only girl in a family of 5...and the baby to boot! ;) I'm not spoiled. :D

I accepted Christ in my heart at age 7 but backslid when I was a teenager. I rededicated my life to the Lord in August of 1990 and have served Him in many different areas since that time. I attend an Assembly of God church though I don't believe in labels. I'm a Bible believen, Holy Spirit leadin follower of Christ!

I've recently met the love of my life in June of 2006. His name is Terry and we hope to be married one day. Problem is he's in Atlanta, GA and I'm in North Dakota. Makes for an interesting love life folks. ;) But we are seeking the Lords will in all things and are confident that He will make a way.

My life has been blessed since the beginning even with the many ups and downs of it. I've learned to appreciate the trials as they draw me closer to Jesus and put my focus where it needs to be. On Him.

I look forward to getting to know my fellow believers here. God bless each one of you in a special way!

Joykins
4th November 2007, 11:58 PM
Hello, my name is Joy

I accepted Jesus into my heart when I was 5. I haven't had huge periods of backsliding but I have a very questioning type mind and am always re-examining my faith. I recently started attending a United Methodist Church, but my background is more or less Baptist-ish. I am very aware of the presence and blessings of God in my life.

I grew up very involved in a church family and attended the church-run school of a very Baptist-like Anabaptist denomination (Grace Brethren). From that education I have a strong basis in theology and the Bible and memorized a lot of verses--for extra credit! It has all stood me in good stead. Later I studied New Testament, Greek language, ancient history, and the Bible as Literature in college. The Bible as Literature course probably left the most lasting impression as it influenced how I approach the Bible. (think of my approach as a cross between the traditional infallibility position and "a work of God-inspired literature"--and if it sounds idiosyncratic, well, it probably is).

I have been married for 12 years to a wonderful man and have 2 children (a daughter, 3, and a son, 6). My kids are the most wonderful thing that have happened to me. They are so cute and are just interesting people.

I am a compulsive reader of genre fiction and theology. I sometimes write, but I have a short attention span as a writer--my specialty is poetry and very short stories.

I look kinda like this:

http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z226/joykins1/JoyHaircut3.jpg

My goal as it is now is to become more like Jesus in love and service to others.

I am glad to be posting in this forum !

Hi, my names Freitag, and I'm a CF-holic, its been about 30 minutes since I last signed on:P

(waits for the "Hi Freitags)^_^

I'm in the last couple of months of a BA in social policy, which accounts for the moments of levity. Its been a seriously hard semester, and to almost get to the end of it, in almost one piece is kind of cool. Its also kind of cool given that I was told that I would be lucky to make my 25th birthday.

Came to faith almost three years ago, ended up in a seriously dodgy church which has left me with large amounts of baggage, were it not for the encouragement and prayers of some wonderful people I met online, I dont know if I could have retained a belief in God as who we worship.

I have two sisters, who are twins, one is married and lives in the same city as I do, she has two young boys, the oldest of who has just started school., the youngest one is still at kindy. My other sister is married and lives in the UK, she has 1 child and another one on the way. My mum lives in Australia

And this is me, last years birthday

This is the university where I am at

Hi! My name is Izzy (well, Isabel, but absolutely nobody calls me that).

I'm single (married once, long, long ago, no kids), and don't have any family that I'm in contact with. I'm fine with that, since I have plenty of good friends. No digital pictures of me exist, which is probably just as well, since I'm too paranoid to post anything that personal anyway. But if it helps you to try to visualize me, and you care about that sort of thing, I'm tall, slender and so multiracial that I don't identify with any of them. My peculiar mix of ethnicities often leads people to mistake me for Filipino, though I'm not. I'm a lifelong tomboy and girl geek, and my personal style tends to early Joan Jett.

Just like Lady Trekki, I accepted Christ as a child but backslid during my teenage rebellious years, eventually found my way back, and currently attend an Assemblies of God church. Interesting coincidence.

I first encountered AoG in the Deep South, where my first impression was that it was far too conservative and legalistic for me. But maybe that was just the region: I'm finding the Seattle version much more to my liking. Theologically I'd describe myself more as a charismatic Lutheran or Anglican with emergent tendencies, but I'm more interested in the love and the teaching than finding an exact doctrinal match. This church suits me very well, and I'm here to stay.

I make my living as a computer consultant, specializing in hardware and systems integration, which is all just a fancy way of saying I'm a self-employed PC tech. Essentially I'm a gamer who put together a hot gaming system for myself, started doing it for friends, met some more people who needed repairs or upgrades, and it turned into a business. I don't make big bucks at it, but at least it keeps me from having to work for someone else, which I'm kind of allergic to.

Besides gaming, I read a lot (mostly theology or science-fiction), bicycle, shoot and do martial arts (JKD). I'm a former full-time political activist (from a libertarian right perspective), and I still keep up with it to some extent, but I'm more interested in spiritual things now. I'm been a mod or admin on more message boards than I care to think about, but I don't think I'll do it here because I don't like having to follow a lot of rules.

Hi, I'm Rebekka.

I'm from the Netherlands and I'm paranoid when it comes to the internet so I won't share my picture.:sorry: But I look a bit like my CF character: freckles, reddish-brownish long wavy hair, pale skin.

I'm married to the most wonderful man in the world, and we have two cats living with us; I have a third cat but she's living with my parents - this is the calico in my avatar. I love cats to bits, I am definitely obsessed with cats and can talk about them all day. I can also purr. :sorry:

I got my Master's degree in Dutch literature and linguistics a month ago (majored in modern Dutch literature) and am now working on a PhD thesis on a modern Dutch author.

I'm a cradle catholic, strayed away from faith in my teens to my mid twenties but came back to the church when I met my husband in 2003.

I'm a passionate reader, I love cooking and wine tasting (and reading cookbooks and wine books), and going to the opera.

Hi all,
I'd post a picture, but I've forgotten how!

My name is Sarah, I'm a mother of four and part time teacher in a residential unit for mentally ill teenagers.. I also have one dog, three cats, one rabbit and a hamster (all belonging to the kids, but gues who looks after 'em all!)

I grew up on army bases, attending church because it was compulsory, but never really heard the gospel. I became a Christian at 18, and blew hot and cold in my relationship with god until about a year ago, when I began to take His calling seriously. I am slowly learning how to be what He wants me to be - it's a hard process, but so incredibly worthwhile!!

I am part of the leadership team of a non-denominational, charismatic church.

My hobbies are reading, walking, reading, writing, reading , painting, reading and er..did I say reading?

I am pleased to be part of this forum, and really looking forward to getting to know you all better!

 (hope it's OK, me posting here- I only consider myself an occasional poster)
Well, I'm Pogue, I'm from Britain. I was born and brought up in England, but my father's Welsh and my mother's of Irish heritage, so no English flags for me. I currently live in Sheffield, but I'm spending half of next year in Germany, then the other half in the Netherlands, to do some teaching and studying, and hopefully to improve my German and Dutch. Yes. I'm studying for a degree in German with Dutch, and I'm a bit of a languages nerd.
I'm the eldest of 6 children (my mother's an Irish Catholic. We consider 6 children a small family ^_^ ) and although my mother's side of the family is huuuuge, my father's side is quite small, because he's not a Catholic, or religious in any way at all.
I also enjoy knitting and archery. I'm very camera-shy, so the attached picture is the best I can do (hopefully I've attached it correctly!)

my name is edie (1 "d" and long e's - which makes it feminine)(eddie is masculine and that's not my name;) )

I've been married to Joe for 29 years - have 2 adult children (Sam and Hannah), a lovely daughter-in-law (Kellie - and she's a daughter of my heart) and 2 of the best grandboys ever (Lukas and Logan)

I'm an RN and currently manage a 6 physician pediatric practice

I grew up PCUSA - but to be honest never really "got" infant baptism so am now Reformed Baptist - very similar to Presbyterian except for the baptism thing. I've been worshiping with my current church family for ~13-14 years, but we planted a RBC about 7-8 years ago (could be more or less, my sense of time is pretty bad). I'm a volunteer secretary/treasurer at my church.

I like reading, knitting and cooking - HGTV and the FoodNetwork are my favorite t.v. channels.

Prayer request - I am living with multiple myeloma (a treatable but not curable cancer). My ongoing prayer request - that God gives me the strength to face the path He's laid out in front of me (I know His plan is soooo much better than mine).

Do Not Presume to Come to Inquire of its Orthodoxy.

This one bes Moriah, Conquering Wind
CF's Resident Daimonizomai
World-soul, soul of the world
The Thunder, Perfect Mind
Heh Finale, Daughter of the Divine Creator
Incarnate Babalon, the Habitation of demons and soulself of Him who is Fallen

one could examine the life of this vessel at the age of 3
and find therein
the seeds for everything it bes destined to become
the roots and origins of all its components
and the very template of the incarnate archetype Herself therein as well

3:
at 3 it taught itself to read -- by simply deciding now it knew how
at 3 it discovered mathematics on its own -- by pondering three known facts until they gelled into a Gestalt
at 3 it shocked its parents by using the correct clinical word for the male anatomical "member" at the dinner table -- a word never used in its house around the children nor had anyone any clue whence it could have learned....
at 3 its First Empathic Contact -- the Big Bad Wolf -- taught it advanced abstract moral reasoning at a level beyond what most adults ever reach in a lifetime
at 3 it knew instinctively the sorceries of eros and thanatos and practiced them at night to appease evil spirits (real or imagined) what lived in its doorknobs
at 3 it woke several nights to its literal last breath -- with which it screamed -- and its parents had to come rush it into a makeshift sauna in the bathroom so it could breathe again
at 3 the skies opened, and a voice thundered from on high to shake its bones, shatter its core, inflict an unexpected, sudden wall of pain and agony, divide its consciousness, and forever implant a knowledge it did not desire, never requested, and have never since wanted: the knowledge of division between good and evil.[more to come..........]

You could post a picture, Moriah...

I was born in a Cleveland suburb, forced to attend Catholic church by my parents. Knew God existed, didn't KNOW Him personally.
Became an astrologer and was totally addicted to it. Age 13 to 15 years after I got saved.
Came to read Late Great Planet Earth, got saved (thanks Hal!) on 9-20-78.
Meandered around. Met husband at gay bar, married him, he got me into the career I'd wanted as a young girl-go go dancing.
He was not a good person.
We had a son in 93.
My husband died of aids that year.
Am pretty non denominational.
Do not know how to post my pic but here is my web page, which tells about me and shows my photos.

Abbie Rose, you got saved the day after my birthday. :) Good time of year for a birthday, IMHO.

I can't believe I haven't introduced myself yet. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y167/beingewe/redface.gif

I'm Frances. I'm 29 years old living in Washington DC. I grew up in the Church of Christ, was baptized July 1, 1990. This is where I made my formal decision to follow Christ. I was blessed to go to the best college in the universe (ACU).

I'm a social worker by trade, currently working in a nursing home. I attend an emergent church, am a servant at heart, and am so thankful for where God has led me.

I'm owned by an adorable chihuahua named Ollie. Here he is, looking festive:

My name is Dustyne. I've been around for 26 years. I spent most of my life in the Ohio. However, now I live in Boston, MA. I recently became the parent of a little baby girl... we named her Symphanie and she is sooo beautiful and sooo cute.

I have many passions in life...
*I'm married to the most handsome woman on planet earth. We've been together for 6 yrs now & plan to be together until death. She's a psychologist.
*I'm ecstatic about the Goth scene, which I've been into since 1998. So yeah, I do the whole club/fetish thing. I like many artists, though my favorite remains Siouxsie and the Banshees.
*I'm a complete queer-sickle (fair warning).

During my life, I've changed... a lot...
*I was a hardcore fundamentalist through high school... marched in anti-abortion rallies, boycotted all sorts of stuff, practiced door-to-door evangelism, gay bashed, preached fire and damnation to get people saved... then had a crisis of faith and went Church Alumni... now I'm trying to return to the Church.
*I've been studying the Bible/theology/Jesus for years... my first degree is from a Roman Catholic place, my second is from an Evangelical place and I'm currently getting another degree from a UCC/UUA place.
*I used to be passionate about the Republicans. Then I was passionate about the Democrats. Now I think they are both evil.
*Oh yea, I put up a picture from 2004 and 2007 to show how much my appearance has changed (aren't I prettier now?)

I've spent most of my life in recovery from various forms of abuse and trauma:
*Abuse at the hands of my atheist and alcoholic father
*Violation at the hands of a fundamentalist pastor
*A life of persecution by society for being queer
*Struggles with demon possession and depression
*The Satan within

But here's the thing:
I do believe that
*We are all guilty of evil and transgression, all in need of salvation.
*Without a way to reconnect with the God who created us, we're doomed
*That Jesus is the way, the truth and the life
*That Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary
*That Jesus was/is the Christ, the Messiah
*That Jesus was a healer, a teacher, a miracle worker and an exorcist
*That Jesus died for all sin
*That God raised Jesus up in bodily resurrection
I still consider myself to be an evangelical.
Every day is a new day to work on reconciling these things with what my existence has been & will be.

 I'm the mother of two and have two stepchildren (all grown). Our youngest is 22 and still lives at home. I am a PK to the 3rd power (all fundamentalists) and was brought up in the fundamental Baptist church. I converted to Catholicism about 12 or so years ago and my wonderful husband is a cradle Catholic.
I retired early (at 50 yrs old) and love it. I worked for a college as executive assistant to the Chancellor but like my current job (housewife) more than any job I've ever had.
I have many hobbies, really enjoy traveling in the sportscar my husband gave me several years ago, adore all our children (even the ones who are a shall we say, bit of a challenge??) and grandchildren. Cooking is one my favorite things, love art, music of many types and totally love gadgets and gadgetry.
This story will continue . . .

I hope no one minds me posting here. I responded in the membership thread asking to be considered a member.

I'm Marc. I live in central MS. Both my wife and I work for the VA hospital.

We have two kids, both adopted. Both keeping me broke:) .

I have an avid interest in Central American history, especially after 1954. My wife and I are also very interest in Latin America (We've explored moving to either Costa Rica or Argentina), food, and music.

We attend a rather large SBC Baptist church, but really feel that the church is moving from a good, solid family oriented church towards hyper evangelism. We used to attend a Church of God, and some friends have recently accepted positions at another one, so we might be visiting there.

My desire (indeed, what I feel God has planned for me) is to work in the Third World, taking care of children and indigenous communities that live in dire conditions.

I'm Joel. My last name (which I won't disclose) is Latin-based, via the French, and is a type of snow, hence my username.

I'm 25.

I was born and raised in NW Indiana. I joined the Navy in July '01, just after I graduated high school, and I am still in. I am currently stationed in SE Georgia, and live in NE Florida. I am now a FL resident for tax purposes (Indiana taxes their military members, but FL does not).

I met my wife Sept 15, 2006. We were married Oct 27, 2006. That's 6 weeks from meeting to tying the knot. We were engaged for less than 24 hours. We conceived two months later, and on Sept 14, 2007, we (well, she) gave birth to our daughter, Lucy Noelle (followed by a last name).

I was raised in a christian home. I've been around the denominational block a little: independent, presbyterian, RC, EO, church of God (both varieties), EV Free...I think that's about all. My wife and I are looking for a church home right now, but we're both a little tired of the status quo.

I am pursuing a BA in Theology from Trinity College of the Bible. I JUST started my first class. They have a distance learning program of which I am taking advantage.

I was in the marching band in high school, and was the drum major for a couple years. I play the saxophone (I still break it out and have a good time every now and then). My dog is absolutely terrified of my sax (she's a pug).

I used to be a pretty hardcore fundy in my more impressionable teen years. I was a very avid fan of Bob Enyart. Now I can barely even stomach the thought of watching his show...if he even has one still.

 Hi. My name is rubylynn. I've been posting some on the Pentecostal forum, but am not very comfortable there. I never imagined in a place this big it would be so hard to find somewhere to fit in. I don't like arguing and debating and all those things that make people dilike each other. I've been searching since I got to this site for a place to call my home. This is where I landed.

I'm 52 years old. I have marriages and children and sins long behind me. A ton of grandkids! My current marriage is with my first boyfriend from high school. I've always loved him and am daily amazed that we are now married. There was thirty four years between our last relationship and this one. God is good. Life has been very harsh ... but I am so grateful and happy in the Lord. I know this will be my last marriage. It is the one I believe was meant to be. But, then I wouldn't have my children ... oh, who knows ... let's just say this is the one I'm equally yoked with. He is a babe in Christ in many ways ... but it just amazes me anyone can see that purely and honestly. I wouldn't say my view is jaded or anything ... just got a lot of smudges on it.

I love God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, this site (just need a home here), my cat ... lol! read the posts on cats, my family, gardening, scrapbooking, puzzles, antler hunting, hunting, wild berry picking, and mushroom picking.

I'm wanting to know so badly what my calling is. I'm in a new place. I have my health back, my children are all raised and I have nothing but time. I'm not ready to go out and start volunteering until I know what it is the Lord wants me to do. I struggle with self worth a lot. It's getting better but I still struggle to see that I have a value.

I don't know what else I can say ... but I'm glad to be here. God bless and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
