Why are all the threads here being made into wikis? Do we need to wiki our questions? Do enough people need to agree on the question before it can be answered?

The wiki article is meant to become an executive summary of the major concerns in the discussion thread, not the current consensus.

Not automatically. Thread participants keep up the summary. I'm guessing that if there's a "final" answer, that would be added to the wiki article and the thread would be closed.

Will some kind of index be kept so people don't keep asking the same question over and over?

I'm not sure, but I hope so.

Right now, if I see what looks like a duplicate, I'm reporting it so we can discuss whether the article should be merged with another wiki article.
