I consider myself "moderate" in that I abhor extremes. I plan to post both here and on the Conservative board because frankly, I think most "Conservatives" are moderates anyway.

But can we avoid turning this place into a "we are so wonderful, and undevisive, why can't everyone else be like us" zone? Because so far I see that attitude forming up and I don't like it....

I'm here too. I would like to be able to get into deeper discussions without hard feelings if people disagree with me. That is all that I want. I also want to have brothers and sisters that I can count on when I am down or struggling. I want to do the same for others here.

Good point - you are right - that is something we must avoid!

I think we need strong norms that encourage us to edify each other and disagree without rancor.

I think we do need to guard against being self-congratulatory and also against using a safe-haven as a place for bashing those who differ--this happens sometimes in the Congregational forums and it ain't pretty.

No, I don't like the self congratulatory stuff either. And bashing those who differ -- that would defeat the whole purpose of this forum.

I guess I missed the "we are so wonderful" thread.

Amen.

Self righteous backbiting is not a pretty sight. I hope we can avoid that & still have interesting discussions without the call to war all the time.

I think people have every right to have extreme views either way. Only difference being they'll have a right to express them here without the awful arguments.

I hope.

I'm extremely moderate---or moderately extreme. I haven't quite figured it out yet.
