Interest in ‘talking to the dead’ is rising in America and around the world. Is Hollywood contributing to this ghostly trend?
Aren’t movies like White Noise and TV shows like Medium and Ghost Whisperer entirely fiction, or are they connected to real mediums and spiritists?
Do you know anyone who has actually seen a ghost?
What does the Bible say about talking to the dead?

There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. My step-daughter swears that she's seen a ghost. But it was in a house I lived in quietly for 8 years. LOL!
The Bible says "DON'T DO IT". That's why I find John Edwards who professes to be a Christian to be soooo confused. Btw, Edwards told my dh's sisters-in-law that my dh was speaking to him, Edwards.

I'll give you guys an example from scripture, in context:
1 Samuel 28:1-6 1 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men. 2 And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever. 3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. 4 And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa. 5 And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. 6 And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
1 Samuel 28:7-14 7 Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. 8 And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee. 9 And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die? 10 And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing. 11 Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel. 12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul. 13 And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. 14 And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.

15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
16 Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?
17 And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:
18 Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
19 Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.
20 Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.
21 And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.
22 Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.
23 But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.
24 And the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:
25 And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.

Yeah, it's a bad thing. I know some people would be curious, and I think that's natural, but what does the Bible say about the natural man?

1Timothy 4:1 Now the Holy Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.(NIV)

Hay nicki! thanks for a new thread dear. WE NEED GOOD THREADS FOLKS! =D
K, how about the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze & Demi Moore? Even Christians loved that movie. I had the video but I threw it away one day becuz I was convicted about this very subject... and possession.
But I wonder if acting is the same as doing it?
Does Harry Potter do any of this?
The only "ghosts" I've seen were on that Ghost Hunters show on Sci Fi tv. They've had full body apparitions on there & EVP's (voices) of spirits....
The wierd thing is, they say their spirits of people wandering around. But are they really people or demons?

Or hey, how about this, the curses on movie sets of some horror movies.
They say they had curses on Poltergeist & the Exorcist.
I wonder if those are real?

LOL glad I could make a few chuckles.
I believe it's a personal choice. No one can demand that you not watch certain shows and channels, but you'll know (as the Spirit convicts you) what you should do.
heck, I know people that have a problem with VeggieTales. Seemed silly to me, but they are free to make that choice so long as they don't try to force others to make the same choice.

I'd say they're demons, or unclean spirits. I wouldn't worry about them as a believer, faith is a more powerful gift from above.

Ya know I didnt even think of Ghost, But you are right!
This leads me back to it seeming to be made "okay" in the 'Hollywood' way.
IMO I feel like in Ghost Hunters, I do not believe that they are dead people, But I truly do believe that they are real experiences.

I have stayed away from these shows - all of them. Before I was saved I was fascinated by all things supernatural. I believe that it held me back from seeking God. Thankfully, the only supernatural thing I look for now is from the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. That's more than enough for me! LOL!

I watch Ghost Hunters on the Sci Fi channel. Most of the time, it's amusing, but sometimes, the stuff scares me.
When they play back "sounds", I always change the channel. Somehow, I don't think it's wise to hear those sounds. I don't think we should be communicating with any paranormal type of spirits.
I do believe that there are some type of energy that some call spirits. That being said, if there are, we shouldn't seek them out and try and talk with them or hear them. These paranormal things can be demons as well. I don't know enough about this stuff to really understand any of it.
I do know this though, we had a cousin and his wife pass away not so long ago in their home. When the husband passed away, we flew out and spent time with their kids and stayed in their bedroom.
When I was sleeping, I was woken up by hearing a woman crying. It was a weeping crying and a sad crying... of like pain. (The wife died before the husband and we all were shocked).
At the time, I didn't know that the wife was in severe pain at the time of her death. She died from Chrome disease. Her husband had cancer and was losing the battle. He fought the battle for atleast 5 years and I think the stress of taking care of him escalated her stress and caused the Chrome disease to take her life.
When I was woken up with the sound of crying, I prayed "Our Father" and a "Hail Mary" and I prayed to Michael the Arch Angel to protect me and to bring peace to the home.
I fell back to sleep and slept peacefully. Had the best sleep ever.
In the morning, I asked if someone was crying that night and they all looked at me in a weird way and said no.
So, I don't know what to think. There could be lost and hurting spirits wondering the world... I just don't know. All we can do is plead the blood of Jesus over us and ask for His protection and pray for peace.
I hate goosebumps.. which is what I have now.
