View Full Version : Why I came here....

2nd November 2007, 01:53 PM
I'm a Conservative in my faith beliefs and in my social political life.....that's why I'm here.
I thought by joining, I could hang out with other like minded Christians, share and discuss core values and beliefs with people I didn't even agree with in GT!!!! I can't tell you how many times I've agreed with posters here who I have vehemently disagreed with in GT^_^ .....I know I'd get along fine with you in the "real world".
What I'm having a hard time understanding is all the backstabbing, gossiping, non-conservative members wanting to have their say here..........I don't post in their forums.....why? becuase I don't agree with it, why go cause strife?? So I'm trying to understand the lack of respect going on here.........to me this is a Christian forum first........and it/we should behave that way......why oh why has it gotten this far?????
IMO, it's because non conservatives have been allowed to disrupt here and on other sites everything we've tried to promote in this forum......As both forums are open to see........why is one alive and one basically dead??? IMO, nothing can grow in poison.........this forum was taking off until the poison came in:crossrc: Jealousy, malice, greed.......some people just can't resist ruining other peoples joy:sigh: .........well, you aren't going to steal mine!!!
Let's get back to the original intentions of this forum!!!:groupray: Reps to my Conservative brethren, hang in there, trust in the Lord.......we shall overcome!!

To be honest epiphany, I think the problem that's surfaced is that many religiously conservative members, weren't conservative socially or politically -- or refuse to divide from certain groups with doctrines that seem directly opposed to ours...
I think maybe it was a melting pot & the conflicts finally errupted from who was coming in; that brought on an internal war which has ended in a basic split of moderates.
That's my NEW view (I'm getting pooped trying to analyze with my hind sight) LOL.
I want to get back to normal too. I say lets get busy if we can. =0)

I'm looking so forward to an end to the strife... If others want to keep gossiping and such in other parts of the site -- I say let 'em... At this point I think we need to focus on the members that ARE here and start making this forum what it was intended to be -- a support & discussion place for those who are conservative theology-wise.

I came here as a conservative seeking other conservatives to communicate with too;
Some subforums here (not necessarily the liberal one only) contain opinions that I kinda say, "huh???" to, and it boggles my mind. There have been a couple threads from other Christian subforums (not talking about this subforum) in which I am appalled by the majority of the opinions; but I have had to exercise restraint because it would go nowhere

I think your hindsight is working pretty well, and the dynamic you just described is at least a large part of the issues here. The SoF only requires theological, not social or political, conservatism. Many people, myself among them (I am theologically conservative, socially moderate and politically libertarian) joined taking that at face value... and later discovered that you really did have to be all three kinds of conservative to be one of the popular kids here. Instant cognitive dissonance! You have a lot of people who are legitimate members by definition, in that they agree with the SoF, yet cannot really fit in. It seems there are in effect two SoF's: the regular one, and the silent, invisible one, composed not of words, but of expectations, which requires all three kinds of conservatism. There are other problems too of course, but I think you've correctly identified one of them.

K... well, maybe I was accurate, however I think to use the term "one of the popular kids here" is off the mark. It has nothing to do with popularity - it's the name of the forum.
Many who are fully conservative read "conservative Christians" and SIGN UP assuming we're all conservative (in the way THEY understand conservatism).
It's not a popular issue -- if it were, there wouldnt' be so many that signed out & so many that made up a new forum so quickly.
I thought they were actually the "popular kids" - by number & position.
The other thing I noticed here is that those who lean more moderately were interested in a fellowship site with some debate or discussion of deeper topics in upper subforums... I'm seeing a shift of that theme going on too.
So it looks to me like more mainstream Conservatives enjoy deeper discussions/ serious topics rather than a majority of games & superficial chit chat. (just an observation - that could be off).
I don't know about the "2" SOF's... I think maybe it would depend on how many of which signed in & it became an issue. Frankly, I don't think the people who started this forum had the thought that there might be a problem with this. I wouldn't have either.
But I truly think if the 2 sections end up making everyone happy & feeling like they belong & fit in, then I'm GLAD for the split. And I'll again bring up the fact that so many have such a disdain for "sects and denominations"... but look what happens without them. And is it any wonder why so many exist?
Imho, the problem isn't the denominations, the problem is the division of PEOPLE who refuse to love one another in those differences. (providing that they are being considered "Christians" - if so, God calls us not to personally divide).
No doubt there needs to be some repentance & acceptance one day.

Fair points, Nadiine, and I'll ponder them all. Two of them in particular I don't have to ponder, but can agree with now:

So you are into power trips?
You seem to have found a new direction, by using the trust and confidence of your fellow conservative Christians to destroy their forum and consider it fun.
I know another poster who is really good with put-down one liners. But he does not bother to conceal who he is.
He also has power on CF. He uses it to damage and hurt others.
He thinks it is all just a game.
He enjoys it very much, indeed.

I usually don't like to scratch an itch that isn't mine, but as a conservative God fearing old man, it appears this itch does now belong to me. I have been observing this forum and it seems to me that there is a confusion going on. Conservative Biblical views are not popular, if they were the whole world would be saved. The proof that conservative Biblical views are not popular can be found at the cross, because Jesus was crucified as a result of them. He wasn't crucified because he carried around a peace sign. He was crucified because He carried His sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. It is a sad day when the lights of God, being shined before men by God, are being snuffed out on a so called "Christian based forum." Just an old man's ramblings, feel free to disregard if my opinion isn't popular. ....is this site owned by the ACLU or Madam O'hare's decendants? If not, it is hard to tell the difference. Peace in Christ, CT

You hit the nail on the head CT - REPPAGE!
Jesus Himself even said that He came to bring a sword - not the peace sign. :amen:
TRUTH divides. And that's exactly why once you get past just "fellowship" topics of rainbows & cotton candy, you automatically start rubbing people the wrong way w/ your Christian worldviews on morality/sin & doctrines.
That is what sets us far apart and brings division.
It's also why said Jesus said if you are not for Me, you are against Me. People who rebel against scripture teachings rebel against God directly; it's His Word.
Matthew 10:34 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=47&chapter=10&verse=34&version=49&context=verse)
"33 "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
34 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 "For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW
